  2. I don't consider it criticism. I consider it just another learning experience...(and let's face it...Quayle was an uncommon VP. Hope to meet you sometime.
  3. Thanks for the correction Dave and claypigeon 58. (I meant noble) Funny thing is: I first spelled it correctly, then actually looked it up in a spell checker dictionary. The format of the dictionary is a column of misspelled words next to a column of correctly spelled words. I obviously looked at the wrong column. My mother (an English teacher) always told me to go with my first instinct.

"W." and his friends have no concept ecology, the enviornment, or the "wholesome and educational recreation" of which you speak. I think a better idea would be to vote him out of office. But at least he can spell. Are you refering to a former VP, or did I misspell something. I take spelling very seriously.

  6. Oreo is a cute puppy name...for a puppy. But consider carefully that someday, Oreo will become a mature dog and deserves the dignity of a real name. How about "Face?" (Great photo)
  7. QUOTE: INDIANA COJONES------- "Anyway, I was thinking it would be neat if there was a "signature item" icon, similar to the travel bug icon. It would function exactly the same way as far as logging goes, but of course it wouldn't need to keep track of who had it or how far it had travelled. Just whether there was one in the cache or not. If someone had a particularly nice item you'd like to get your hands on, you could just check their signature item page to see what caches currently contain the item. What do you think? Worth suggesting to Jeremy?" Yes. A great idea. I think signature collecting would become quite popular. And it follows that signature items would become more unique and personable (and collectable). Definitely a good idea.
  8. Who was that character on Sat. Night Live?...You know the one I mean.
  9. I just ran "geocache" through as a registered player and the concept was new to the computer. Among other things, it guessed motorcycle helmet and bikini. I defined "geocache" as: the object of a GPS treasure hunt Hope I wasn't presumptuous, being a newbie of sorts. [This message was edited by sept1c_tank on June 13, 2003 at 11:45 PM.]
  10. I've had my eyes open for a hollow needle that I can hide in a haystack.
  11. Tanks for posting this. I just completed my application. I've wanted to be a photographer fro National Geographic for at least 40 years. This might be the closest I ever get! Tanks, again for the posting, sept1c_tank.
  12. Explorer Posts can also form with a speciality. I don't see a geocaching merit badge in the future, but maybe some GPS requirements in orienteering.
  13. I thought brown recluse at first, but I don't see the hourglass.
  14. Personally, I don't think it makes any difference if you know where a cache is before you log it as a find. What about all these virtuals that we've already known about? Log it as a find...who's counting, anyway?
  15. quote:Originally posted by ChurchCampDave: quote:Originally posted by seneca:Sooner or later all caches will be plundered. All Travel Bugs will eventually be taken and not returned. The charming part about Geocaching is the relatively slow rate that this happens. Where in the world is there another game where you leave personal property unguarded in the woods and then tell thousands of strangers where to find it - with a reasonable expectation that the vast majority will respect it. It’s a credit to the decency of Geocachers in general. PiGMaN is a mental runt and he will eventually be exposed (and I am sure that for those who have met him, he already has been). This is not to say I am not sorry about the loss of your Travel Bug. It was a good one, worthy of a much longer life. _I have never in my life learned anything from any man who agreed with me._ http://www.cslaw.ca/geol4.JPG Great post. Nice to see a positive perspective on a negative situation. It IS quite amazing to find caches where people said they put them. That is what fascinated me about the sport when I found my first cache. I had talked to the town police chief about it just a few minutes before I found it and his comments were "what if somebody steals it?" I considered "yeah, how do I know it's still there or even that it ever was- this whole thing could be an internet scam". But I looked and there it was! That is the most truly amazing thing about this sport- like you said, leaving personal property ungaurded and telling thousands of people where it is and it is still there. I know it doesn't lessen the hurt when a cache or a tb gets taken. I have lost 2-1/3 caches, and have 3 tb's (every one I have launched) currently in limbo, already, having only been involved for 6 months. But we really need to have the perspective that caching has a DARN GOOD record considering the abject depravity of human nature and the total openness of the sport. God truly loves inconsiderate, lying, theiving scumbags. (He calls them sinners and the root of it all is in all of us.) He made a LOT of them! This game has a great record. Let's not let a few *****'$ spoil our fun. Caint never did nothing. GDAE, Dave What he said.
  16. Found a message in a bottle once. It was floating in the Green river near Mammoth cave (ky). Sent the message back to the writer with a note explaining that I found it in the White river near Indianapolis. Never heard from them again.
  17. I, too, found it annoying that the military kept finding "cachets." Haven't heard too many people mispronouncing cache, or geocache since the war, though. Actually, one of my pet peeves is the mispronounciation of words any time.
