I usually just bleed a lot.

About 40 years ago, when I was a teenager, I took some younger kids on a snipe hunt!

I don't use them often, but I bought a string from a Vietnam war veteran about 10 years ago. (Now I use my GPSr but there is nothing wrong with redundancy. It's a good backup, and it looks cool on my backpack.)

Sent an email, too.

How did you develope your screen name? I've often wondered about some of the crazy screen names attached to geocachers. Some are obvious. (maybe not ) Some are downright hilarious . Several people have questioned mine, so here is the explanation: I recently spent 9 months in Australia. Aussies definitely enjoy the english language. Among other quirks, the Aussies use a lot of slang including some Cockney rhyming slang. In Cockney rhyming slang, septic tank refers to Americans. (Tank rhymes with Yank) Being a Yank, I thought sept1c_tank fit pretty well. HOW DID YOU ARRIVE AT YOUR SCREEN NAME?

I'll tell you what's even sadder. I posted this reply just so I'd have 100 posts!

Those darn geocaching rabbits! There once was a rabbit heading from east to west. Some squirrels and a raccoon saw his tracks and decided to see where he went. A deer came by and decided that the trail might lead somewhere interesting. Later some guy named Daniel Boone decided that the trail would make a good path to visit his neighbors. Today that path is I-70 and stretches all the way across the country. Tomorrow...? [This message was edited by sept1c_tank on July 09, 2003 at 08:23 AM.]

"Tanks" for the support.

Is this test a multiple choice?

I've run into 2 other geocachers in the short 10 weeks of my addiction. Both times I just walked up to them with GPSr in hand and said something like "this arrow is pointing right at you...you must be a geocacher."

OK------------Guess I did post the link.

I'm not good at posting links, but you can view a very complimentary story about geocaching (and me) at: http://www.indystar.com/print/articles/2/056250-9462-015.html If anybody can post the link, please feel free to do so. (Indianapolis Star West, Tuesday, July 8) sept1c_tank

H2O is important, indeed. A child-like sense of adventure is mandatory. And a sense of humor helps.

Personally, I don't like the idea of a time limit on caches. There are some excellent caches out there...why not leave them. Maybe a limit on how many caches a user can place in a defined time limit would work. I do recognize the problem you're discussing and with the rapid growth of geocaching it will only get worse. I live in an area that has 9 caches in a two mile radius. (And, yes, I am part of the problem)

My name is Richard and I'm a Geocacher. Sometimes I say I'm going to do something else and then I look for, or hide caches. I have even contrived an alias (sept1c_tank) to use so geomuggles won't know who I am. I often times plan my daily activities around geocaching. I dream about geocaching. Geocaching is all there is. "Tanks."

Found Cache that isn't listed.

Maybe it was SUPPOSED to be a cache SOMEWHERE, and the owner of the potential cache accidently lost it while looking for the adjacent cache. -

To me, it's similiar to a "member"s only" cache. It's not exactly for everyone, but it affords a certain limitation and is directed at one group. Same as dive caches, climbing caches and canoe caches. Don't see a problem here.
