  1. The merigreen was a wise choice indeed. I just purchased the Meridian Yellow, 64mb SD card and reader from Outpost.com A wonderful deal en total, costing somewhre around 160. I love it thus far, and have loaded many multitudes of maps. You will be pleased with your purchase.
  2. I've got to second miuwu's statement. My experience with quad-helix has been nothing short of stellar. I'd go with the magellan Meridian series if I were you. In fact; I'd do it if I were me, because I just did. Outpost.com. Pick up a 64mb smart card/reader and Magellan Meridian Yellow for 170. Best deal out there. ~dhrusis
  3. Wow... all is quiet and then BAM all the vistas in the world die at the same time. How long as this been happening without any comment, people?
  4. Sorry all, this unit has been sold. Thanks all for looking.
  5. Magellan GPS 315, functionally perfect. This is a great starter GPS, and I have found that this GPS can be incredibly accurate when comparing it to friends Meridian Platinum. Comes in non original box, but has manual on CD included. Shipping is 8.00 to continental US. Pictures available on request. It looks like a brand new 315. Price is 55$ Email: paladin@ufl.edu
  6. One more question regarding the basemap and detailed maps for the Meridian series... Say I am riding on a road that is fairly large but not documented in the 2mb base map. I zoom the meridian in to .8 of a mile, or where ever the detail map is about to fade out.. Will the detail map show the name of the street I am on? Ive read that magellan maps DO show street names, but I've also read about discrepancies between having detail maps and having base maps.. That even though you are focused in on a detail map, if the base map doesnt know the city you are in.. it wont display it... Thanks ~dhrusis
  7. The rebate doesnt apply to regular Magellan Meridian GPS units, from what I could tell.
  8. Hello Everyone -- dhrusis reporting in with what seems like a simple question regarding approach maps. As I go to caches whose location (and vicinity) I know nothing about, it would help since I do not have a mapping GPSr to get some street maps leading to the cache. I am wondering.. for those who do not have mapping GPSrs.. how do you get street maps? I tried putting the lat and long of the cache into mapquest but the maps keep coming up empty. Does anyone have any ideas or proven methods? ~dhrusis
  9. Hello All -- I was wondering.. upon searching for a cache whose general location I do not know .. how do you all with non mapping GPSrs approach a cache? I have tried to plug the lat/long of the cache into mapquest for a map of the area with no avail. Does anyone have any tips on how to approach a cache via the nearest road?

  11. Hey all.. Quick question.. I've searched for this in the forums to no avail.. I was wondering, is there a good way to get maps to the approach of a cache if you are unfamiliar with the territory? I was thinking plugging the cache coords into mapquest would produce a decent map but they keep coming up blank. What do you folks without mapping gpsrs do for the approach to a cache you are not familiar with? Thanks.
  12. Hello all. I've come across this issue when planning a trip to a cache whose location is far off and unknown to me. Lets pretend the cache is in a park somewhere, but I did not know how to reach the park. Is there a good proven method to take the cache coords and plug them into mapquest to get some decent driving directions to somewhere near the trailhead (or just the closest road to the cache coords)?? Ive tried to map the cache cords in lat and long, but the mapquest map was completely blank. Any ideas? What do you guys/gals use?
  13. Leatherman -- I just did some research and found all I needed to know about the Meridian GPS. I appreciate your help. One more question.. and this is for everyone: Does anyone know the best place to buy the Meridian GPS? I saw outpost.com linked a lot, but sadly they no longer sell it (or its not available at this current time.) The lowest I saw it for was 129.99 + shipping. Anyone? Thanks.
  14. Life Journey -- Where did you find this rebate deal on the Meridian Yellow? I wasnt aware the rebate was available for the Meridian GPS.
  15. Jamie -- I am thinking about the Meridian (standard). For the price it seems very good. Can you comment on the detail of the 2MB base map? Are we talking just highways and major cities? Also, is it not possible to store the same base data that comes in the Gold/Platinum somewhere on the SD memoty for the regular meridian.. so that it is visible when you zoom out? (I.e. not street level) ~ dhrusis
  16. I'm looking to purchase a new GPSr. I am looking at Magellans mostly, due to the expandable SD memory slot. I like the ability to put a massive amount (unlimited) of street level maps into my GPSr. Questions.. are there major differences between the SportTrack models and the Meridian models? On the Magellan website it says the SportTracks have "Built-in mapping of North America and unlimited expandability".. but mentions nothing about secure digital capabilities. It does mention that, however, with the meridian series. Also.. with the platinum.. how useful is the electronic compass? The compass I have on my Magellan 315 only works if I am moving. I am thinking about augmenting it with a standard hand compass. The 315 compass also doesnt update if I turn around in place. Would the platinum update the compass and my reference to the waypoint I am searching without me moving? Does the platinum update more often to keep track of waypoint you are trying to find? If I wouldn't be using the barometer.. is the platinum worth the money over the gold? With the meridian series.. the internal memory shouldnt matter too much because the SD card can be limitless. Am I correct on this, or does the base memory contain information that is not able to be displayed strictly with information uploaded to the GPS? Thanks
