  2. quote:Originally posted by Geoffrey: I gave my sister a GPS III, and a friend the GPS IIIplus. Well, I can't be your sister, so .... um.. can I be your friend. Sold my 12map to my sister. (obviously not the brother you are) and my 76s doesn't get here til apr. (wonder what day - probably the 30th) Using my fathers GM100, which I have found has it's upsides. I really was impressed with some of its features. So I guess the answer to the question isn't one of your options. I currently 'own' ZERO!!! ARRRGGGH!
  3. APK brings up a valid point. Ocassionally (and I love it when this happens) the hider will put in some big ticket items. When this does happen, I believe the hider has no expectations of the finder leaving 'equal or greater'. Case in point: 100 BUCKS! Faithwalker, DaMama and Catwoman hit it big. Isn't that great? Sometimes the cache owner puts a nice reward for the first finder with (I'm sure) no expectations of an equitable trade being made. And, I am sure, that from time to time expensive items are cached to reward the finders for a long or arduous journey to the location. BUT in THIS poll and on THIS topic we would like to speak in generalities. Faithwalker, DaMama and Catwoman, however fortunate, (ok I'm jealous) are the exception and not the rule. --CP [This message was edited by cache-potato on March 16, 2002 at 02:31 PM.]
  4. I just came back from a 3 cache trip. The GM 100 served me flawlessly. I has some really cool features that you don't find on other units. Very responsive and quick to get a lock. I hope my new 76s does as well as the GM. Fine Unit! --CP
  5. A topic that has been hashed rehashed then mashed. However let's give it another slant. I like to refer to it as the 'Geo' Golden Rule. Always leave a cache better than you found it. The people I have turned onto the sport have invariably heard this come out of my mouth. Now, having said that, the question. How do you leave a cache? 6. wanted to go tonight.... in the rain... wife didn't or WOULDN'T go. What's up with that. Where's the commitment and dedication these days. Had the traveler for 2 weeks now... gotta get in on the road to riches. On the other hand... my 4 year old was ready to go. He has more confidence in Daddy protecting him than wife has.

  10. I pre-ordered mine 3 WEEKS AGO!!!!!! Shouldn't have sold my 12map so soon. Using a globalmap 100 in the meantime. I think I mentioned this in another thread. I do not know if it has a course deviation indicator or not. Personally, not really interested in that particular feature. Hawkeye take a peek Sweet huh?
  11. I put one here last year. I plan to put another out in a more difficult place this year. Don't get alotta hits on these tho..... hmmmm wonder why?
  12. I really had a difficult time deciding what to use.

  14. Good grief. I can only imagine. That woulda freaked out alot of people. Didn't find any decapitated chickens about did you? No? Well they weren't Baptists then.
  15. hint? absolutely not ... no way... un-uh. If I brought the cache sheet my wife wouldn't have anything to complain about as we go into our second hour of searching the same 50 square feet! I have made phone calls from the middle of the deep dark forest back to the base camp and been given the hint. BUT ONLY ONCE

  19. Would love to do a 'moon-cache'. Think it would be a blast. Think it would add a scary twist to some. Like this one here ---> Unfortunately I have already been there a couple times in the light of day. There is one near me in a cemetary. Friday night I think I will go!!!

  21. quote:Originally posted by macro: So, can I assume this means new gear for all of us once this is implemented, or will a backwards-compatible signal still be transmitted? Sounds like progress however you slice it. WHAT!!?? I just pre-ordered my new 76-S two weeks ago!! It won't come out til next month and now you tell me I GOTTA GET NEW STUFF!!!!!??????!!!!!
  22. Looks good to me. I whole-heartedly believe that the more you personalize a cache the more appealing it is. Can you get all that on an index card?
  23. Yes, I remember. It was a BigFig cache. He placed some high quality caches! (you still out there BF?) Turns out he was into the lapidary thing and we took an uncut blue lapis stone. We were first finders. My wife wanted the stone and I the cigar. Course you know who won that argument. We went on to find his others and ended up with some rose quartz ear rings, and genuine emralds etc.. etc.. quality caches all. Hats off to you BF!
