  1. Thank you everyone for your help. FSM, I did eventually figure out that I got a 30-day free trial of the Premium Membership with my GPS purchase, so I signed up for that and was able to create the .gpx file. It took me awhile and a bit of searching to figure all this out...but I *think* I maybe finally got it. Or at least enough caches saved in the device to go looking for some! Thank you all again!
  2. Oh my gosh - I think I may have figured something out! Because I only have the free membership, which saves as a .loc file, I had to drag the .loc file into the WAYPOINTS folder, not the GEOCACHES folder! I still can't get the individual "send to gps" thing to work - but just getting these few waypoints in was super exciting! I'll get this thing figured out eventually; I will!
  3. Hi - I'm pretty new and just got a Magellan eXplorist GC this morning as a birthday present. I've spent the last couple hours trying to figure out how to load caches onto it and I'm getting really frustrated - can anyone help? Sorry if I ask stupid, newbie questions... I've tried to load caches two different ways. I first saved a .loc file, but I couldn't figure out how to transfer it to the GPS. Then I downloaded GPSBabel and tried to change the file format, but I realized that once I did, that I still didn't know how to load the file onto the GPS. I have a Mac, so I tried dragging the new .gs file onto the Magellan disk icon, but I didn't know which folder to place it into. Then I tried a different route and tried just downloading one cache at a time via the "send to GPS" icon. Under the Magellan tab, it said I was missing a plugin, but when I tried to download it, it said "No suitable plugins were found". I've then went to this site: http://www.magellangps.com/products/map.asp?PRODID=2301 and tried to download the Magellan Communicator directly, but because I'm on a Mac, I can't open .exe files. I did try opening it through Stuffit Expander, but it didn't work. I even tried doing all of this on a PC and it still wouldn't open either. Do I need to be a Premium Member for all of this to work? As I'm new to all of this, I'm just a basic (free) member right now - will become a Premium Member somehow make everything work? Pretty much, I'm completely lost and have been poking around trying to figure out what it going on and to make it work, but I'm having no luck at all and just getting frustrated. Can anyone help?? Please?? I'm going crazy here.
  4. I hope it's ok that I'm piggybacking onto this thread. I'm very new to all of this and just got the eXplorist GC - I've spent the last couple hours trying to figure out how to load caches to it! I've tried to click the "send to GPS" icon, and it says I'm missing a plugin, but when I try to download it, it says "No suitable plugins were found". I've tried to go to this site: http://www.magellangps.com/products/map.asp?PRODID=2301 and download the Magellan Communicator directly, but because I'm on a Mac, I can't open .exe files. I did try opening it through Stuffit Expander, but it didn't work. I also tried to download it on a PC and it wouldn't open either. I downloaded GPSBabel and tried changing the .loc file I saved to other formats and tried it to send it directly to the GPS. No luck. 5. I'm brand new to geocaching, and a week ago or so looked through the Android market to see if there were any geocache apps. I found one for free (which I now suspect is the "not named" one mentioned here) and played around with it, but hadn't actually gone looking for any caches yet. This morning I went geocaching for the first time at a CITO event, and was loaned a GPS unit. Since I had a great time (and the Magellan eXplorist GPS I got to borrow was pretty cool), I decided to see if there was a better app I could download for my G1 and was willing to pay a reasonable price. So I did a google search and found this thread, skimmed through a lot of it, and was sad to see that there was no official GS app for Android yet...HOWEVER, I just now did a Market search on my phone anyways, and GUESS WHAT SHOWED UP?? Apparently the official app is out now. Must have been released super recently, like in the past couple days or something. It's $9.99, for anyone interested. I just searched for "Groundspeak" into the Marketplace and it popped up. Here's the link: http://www.geocaching.com/android/
