  2. I was just thinking. (ouch that hurts ) It seems that the primary reason for people I talk to, use GSAK for of having all (most?) of the logs instead of just the last 5. A secondary reason is the ability to combine several queries for a region, to hold more than the default 500 (which doesn't go far in high density areas). And the biggest complaint is that archived caches are not removed easily. And let's not forget FOUND caches. They also need to be removed, but that is doable, albeit with another step. It seems to me this can all be accomplished easily by simply setting a filter to only return caches that have been updated today (or whenever your last PQ was). This way your master DB will keep all the caches, including all those logs you seem so interested in keeping. But then when you export to your GPS and/or PDA, you'll only get the caches that are current and active. Archived caches will automatically be excluded by the filter. Isn't that easy?
  3. This thread from a couple months ago has several posts from Jeremy that show his position.
  4. After the problems that we as geocachers have been having in cemeteries is some parts of the country, I think this is a very bad idea. Please don't do it.
  5. Since "none" is one of the states listed, as long as it is selected with the others, all the caches in other countries without states will be included, too. No need to run a separate PQ.
  6. The neat thing is, the link in the email is exactly the same URL as the checkbox (for that PQ on that day) on the Pocket Query page. So the only change was to the code was to automatically disable the PQ after it runs, and add that link to the email. Very clever. Here's my suggested text for the email:
  7. 20 feet is within the margin of error of consumer GPS units. So I don't care.
  8. Actually, all lands managed by the National Parks Service, or the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, *are* off-limits to geocaches. Read the guidelines, specifically the first point under "Off-limit (Physical) Caches" It should be noted that not all NRAs are managed by the Park Service. Some are, but there are many that are not.
  9. I think the pointer only appears when you are doing a GOTO.

    Cache Icons

Yes there is. Over on the right, below the column of buttons, it will say something like "This is a Micro cache."
  11. Nope. No notifications are sent when a log is changed.
  12. Sounds like its working as expected, then. If you read the prior posts on this issue, you will see that PQs run in a priority order in that the ones that have not run in the longest, run first. So queries that last run a week ago will have higher priority that ones that ran yesterday. Then examine some posts by Elias that note that the current PQ generator just isn't able to keep up with all the queries. So, daily PQs will not run daily. Set your PQs to run once a week and you should be fine. Better yet, keep them disabled (don't check any days) and only check a day when you are ready to go caching. I do it this way and generally get a PQ within 5 minutes of asking for it.
  13. Does it only happen on those 2 pages, or on all pages?
  14. A great tool is here. Enter the GC# in one box and the coords of the object you found in the other box. It will then show you the distance to all the other logs. If any are less than 100 feet or so, you should check them closely to see if they are the same object.
  15. Leaving town right after (or before) your cache is listed is generally a bad idea. I've seen say too many times that the first finders (or *not* finders) encounter coords that are off, or other problems that the hider must address. When he's out of town and can't check on and fix the problems it gets quite annoying.
  16. Your local reviewer is listed at the bottom of your own cache page and on the "published" note on new caches (within the last week - it's a new feature). Send him/her an email with a link to the cache in question and which TB is missing.
  17. I love my Garmin beanbag mount. It sits just fine on my dashboard. The only time it ever moves around is if I'm 4 wheeling up a steep, bumpy road And when I decide to go caching with a friend and we take his car, its easy to grab my mount and take it with us
  18. Click the "My Controls" link near the top of this page. Then click the "Skin and Languages" link in the lower left. Choose the "Groundspeak (sizable)" skin in the menu, and click on "Change my account options." Then using "View/Text Size" in your browser will work correctly.
  19. When you log your find online, just include a link to this page in the log. Edit: space bar? what's that?
  20. Actually I think it would be GC10000
  21. I don't see any point in always including published and retracted logs in the GPX file. We don't do that now for enable/disable or archive/unarchive. That's because without all the other logs in between (finds/DNFs/notes) then there is no context. For example if its now 2007 and I download a GPX for a cache hidden in 2005, what good is this series of logs: 2/28/2007 Found 2/27/2007 Found 2/22/2007 Found 2/20/2007 DNF 2/10/2007 Found 8/15/2005 Published 8/14/2005 Retracted 8/12/2005 Published Kinda pointless, eh?
  22. Moving this thread to the Travel Bug Forum, as it really doesn't belong in Garage Sale.
