  1. Magellans have gotten a bad reputation since when they first released the Triton line the firmware was buggy as hell, and was very frustrating for users. Since then they have released several firmware updates which have fixed the majority of the problems. My buddy purchased a Triton 300 last week, and is happy with it. I purchased a 1500 at the same time, and am also happy with it. It is recommended to update the firmware when you get one though, to avoid having to deal with the hassles of the old firmwares. This process is free. Also, since they have acquired a bit of a bad repuatation, you can pick one up for a low price I'm sure. Good luck!
  2. I have an explorist 500, and just acquired a Triton 1500 (I have an extra one I'm selling if you're interested...brand new...huh? huh? lol). My housemate just purchased a Triton 300 2 days ago. We're both quite computer savvy, and there should be a way of getting the MapSend Topo maps to work with Vantage Point, at which point you could load them to the Triton 300. Unclear yet if it works, but it looks promising (from what he's told me anyway). If it works, I'll post my findings here. I know the MapSend Topo Canada map is a bit old now, but its better than nothing.
  3. One step ahead of ya there...I've posted it all over the place
  4. No, actually from what I saw, it's the Magellan 500 that is on sale for $199.00. The gps I'm selling is the 1500. Walmart Handheld GPS Unless you were referring to Walmart.ca...which doesn't sell handheld gps's. So I'm not sure where you got that info from. Care to share the source? Well i actually purchased my 1500 adventure pack at walmart for 199.99 my man. So i would take it back to where ever you got it and return it. Aw man! Well, I guess it pays to be living in the states then. Cause the walmart's around here (Toronto) don't sell 'em. I'm only selling cause I lost the receipt...well, hopefully that's just a sale that will pass...cause otherwise...I have one expensive paperweight

  6. I've got a brand new Triton 1500. Never opened. I've read all the reviews for these units, and took a chance buying one. No regrets. I had/have a Magellan eXplorist 500, which worked great for geocacheing, and I upgraded to the Triton 1500. To be fair, I have never used a Garmin; but I've never felt the need to either The updated firmware that is offered by Magellan works well. Also, for anyone considering buying a Triton 200/300, my housemate bought one, and it works great with the firmware update. Of course it's no 1500, but hey... Send me a p.m. if interested. Buyer will pay actual cost of shipping. I'm not making any money on this unit, bought one too many, and lost the receipt! $320 USD. Paypal preferred. Or I can post on ebay and you can buy it on there if you prefer the ebay guarantee. Same price.
  7. That is correct. A buddy of mine bought one yesterday, and compared the two at the store. Identical units, but the 300 includes a cable.
  8. My last name is Fiedler....but everyone spells/says it Fielder....hence 'D before L'....but someone had 'db4l' so its db4elle....
  9. I used to have a Magellan Blazer 12, which has had good reviews on the internet, but is prehistoric when it comes to gps units nowadays. The display only showed DDD:MM:ss whereas the new units show DDD:MM:sss which gets you closer to the cache, so you don't have as big a search area. Yesterday I purchased a used Magellan eXplorist 500 for $75 CAD from a classified, and am really happy with it. It acquires about 7 sats in a very short period of time. Too bad it didn't work out for Boyscout64, cause its a pretty slick unit.
