  1. My last PQ for 'My Finds' was Feb 1, 2013. I just tried to run it and got a message saying "Unable to schedule your 'My Finds' Pocket Query." and the Last Run Date showed the time I just submitted it.
  2. Same problem. Many avatars not showing too. This seems to have been going on for an extended period of time.
  3. I think many of us are not defending GS; rather, we are criticizing google. The request IS unreasonable because of the costs involved. While none of us know the exact cost other than the lackeys, all you have to do is do a google search and you'll find other companies are dropping it as well because the cost cannot be justified at this time. I'd love to see GS add an a la carte option for those who want it. But it might be difficult to do since GS couldn't charge a flat rate as their costs vary (I think?) with usage. Cachers who really want this option and can't be bothered with using a better browser could pay up front, and get charged whatever GS gets charged for each map view. People who use the google maps more would get charged more. The nice thing about the openstreetmap now is with companies such as Apple and FourSquare moving to it, there will be more users updating the maps and making them more useful. This doesn't help the sat/aerial views though. Apple drops google maps for iphoto Why are companies defecting from google maps Foursquare criticized for dropping google maps FourSquare says bye to google maps, joins openstreetmap movement Obviously Apple/FourSquare are the two major names making news. Apple has enormous pockets and decided to drop it, but they have other reasons to want to break from google anyway. ChileHead; You are doing exactly what I asked you not to do. You are hung up on GOOGLE MAPS. I said “all the people are asking for is the return of functional satellite/aerial maps via geocaching.com using whatever browser they choose to use”. Nowhere does that statement say GOOGLE MAPS.
  4. To all those who adamantly defend Groundspeak’s map changes: Don’t get hung up on Google Maps and don’t assume that everyone wants to use Firefox with Greasemonkey to get around the problem. All the people are asking for is the return of functional satellite/aerial maps via geocaching.com using whatever browser they choose to use. There is nothing unreasonable about that request.
  5. I added this issue to the upgrade thread but Moun10Bike says that it should be in the Bug Report section so I added it there: http://forums.Groundspeak.com/GC/index.php?showtopic=291410
  6. Pocket Query maps seem to have stopped being interactive. I don’t get the popup with details and can’t open the cache page when clicking the cache icon on the map. This worked earlier today. Same results on IE, FF, Chrome; XP and Win7

  8. I fixed it for you. If anything it should help you to understand and appreciate that ultimately APIs are neither "open" nor "free." I appreciate that someone at Groundspeak is watching this thread, however a comment on what is going to be done to fix the issue and an idea of a time frame would have done a lot more to restore my faith in the organization. Don’t hold your breath on the time frame. Maps have been an ongoing issue for over two years (going back to the 1/12/2010 release at least). Just look at the past release notes.
  9. I fixed it for you. If anything it should help you to understand and appreciate that ultimately APIs are neither "open" nor "free." Wat? So what are you saying here? That OSM is neither open nor free? Or that the Groundspeak API is open and free? I think he is saying that if there is an expense that might affect Jeremy’s bottom line it is not acceptable regardless of what impact it might have on us members.
  10. I fixed it for you. If anything it should help you to understand and appreciate that ultimately APIs are neither "open" nor "free." You FIXED it? Do you honestly believe that?
  11. So if a greased monkey can make this work why can’t Groundspeak?
  12. There is one thing that I am very disappointed in that no one has mentioned. That is how Groundspeak handled this mapping issue. Google announced its intent to charge for high-volume usage months ago giving its users time to adjust. Groundspeak slipped a note into a forum a couple of hours before making its change giving its users no time to adjust. Learn to communicate with your users Groundspeak! You will save everyone, yourself included, a lot of headaches. You finally learned to announce outages with that yellow banner. Expand that idea to other things – like this map change. Example (banner): A significant change is forthcoming. See the following forum thread for addition information and discussion (link). Your feedback will help us adjust to the change and our feedback will help you implement a change with an understanding of the user community’s concerns/wishes.
  13. A number of people have problems with the new ‘beta maps’ when it comes to Pocket Queries and it was well documented in the old voting-system that is now gone. All we want is the ability to view only our PQ caches on an interactive map the way would could before the beta-maps took over. This could be accomplished by simply adding a link to the PQ page that would use the old maps for that PQ ( "http://www.geocaching.com/map/default.aspx?guid=xxxx" ). I am requesting that you provide that functionality. It would be a very easy change and would make a number of people very happy.
  14. Apparently there was a PQ problem that was addressed when something was posted to the GEOCACHING.COM WEBSITE Forum.
  15. I also have this problem. I have not run any queries in three days and nothing I have submitted run since the website came back up has run - including one that has never run before.
  16. Is anyone getting their pocket queries to run? Mine are not. I have one that has never been run before that I have been waiting on since the website came back up. The last PQ I ran was 3 days ago. Did they forget to turn something back on?
  17. I do not like forums but Groundspeak took away the Uservoice so I have to try to cope with the forum because that it the only option I have. Anyway, this post is just to test the signature I set up so don't pay any attention to it. My change didn't work. We'll try again.
  18. Thanks Moun10Bike. I'm disappointed that I can't track the progress anymore but pleased to know that it was not been dropped. I will wait to see if something happens before re-entering the suggestion.
  19. Ok then, one question: has the problem with pocket query maps been entered into the internal database? It definitely had a reasonable number of votes.
  20. It seems that all the effort we went through in the past to enter suggestions, vote on the items, and provide comments has now been lost. There are items that I am interested in from the now closed FEEDBACK page (I guess it was called Uservoice) that I do not see here. It’s like they never existed. Let’s not lose the work that has already been done. Merge the top items from the previous FEEDBACK approach with this new approach. DECLINE them if that is Groundspeaks decision but let’s not pretend they were never there.
  21. Oh, Berry, I don’t think we are on the same page about what a good log is. I looked at your logs for your finds sorted by the most favorite points and found these logs. Which ones do you consider a good log? Found it Got it Been here been inside about 100 feet colddddddd plan on going back in soon to see how far it / I can go Found this one a wile back just never logged it Needed the hint to find it. Great idea. Found it Got it found with chick Found it Found it
  22. You never shared your picnic lunch with me, Doug. The best was at Shaar's Bluff in late November a couple of years ago. It was the first time we passed on Flying Leap of Faith. Sorry you missed it.
  23. Let’s face it the game has changed and it’s not going to go back. You can blame it on, or credit it to, the smartphone. Personally, I think it was a better game back when we started in 2007. The caches were better, the locations were better, and the logs were better. Caching was a day trip and people savored it. You planned a hunt, loaded the GPSr, and went out for the day. In our case, we often took a picnic lunch with us. At the end of the day we posted our logs from notes we made in a paper notebook. Today, for the growing majority of people, caching is a detour in their everyday life. They see what’s close to where they are, find the cache, hit FOUND, and go on with their business. It’s just a different game and the logs and P&G caches reflect that.
  24. A number of Lackeys have given up their entire Sunday to work on fixing this issue. Given that they haven't yet fixed it, about the only thing they would be able to tell us here would be "sorry, the site is being very slow". I'm not sure exactly how that would help, or indeed how well such an announcement would be received . Exactly the same happens when a lot of planes are delayed for some reason. TV news turns up at the airport and people say "we haven't been told what's happening". Actually, I don't think that many people care very much exactly what's happening. Most of them just want it fixed as soon as possible. And, amazing as this may sound to some people, I'm going to bet that Groundspeak also wants it to be fixed as soon as possible. 1) I would hope (and expect) that they would work on Sunday to fix the problems created by the upgrade. 2) I would appreciate an update (beginning with "Groundspeak is aware of the problem and working on it"). Without this I get the feeling that those who created the problem are home having brats and beer without any concern for the gc.com users.
