  1. Thanks for the info. Will try them out. Leaving on trip in an hour so will reply when I get back.
  2. Haven't used "Old Blue" for a long time as I have a Nuvi 255W. But want to use it now. Running mapsource program I have three versions to select: City Navigator NT 2010.4 City Select North America V7 and City Select North America V6. The eTrex and all map programs are "up to date" according to Garmin. I want to transfer waypoints and maps to the eTrex but the Map check box is grayed out so I cannot transfer maps as I did in the past before installing City Navigator NT. No matter which software I have selected from the drop down list in MapSource box I get an error message when I click "send to device" that my device will not accept maps from City nav. Nt and I need to select a different device.
  3. I have an old blue eTrex legend-C. The unit says software V 2.7 so I installed the latest uptater and once the program found the device it said I had the latest version so there was no update available. ??
  4. Thanks to all who responded I think I better understand the situation. I think I will go back to the three BM in question. I will post as NOT FOUND but add the information about the Corp of Engineer disks. Maybe add the link to Holograph's wiki and to the Waymark site so others can educate themselvs if they want. Thanks again
  5. Went looking for BM Saturday with some newbie friends. Found three. However there are numerous errors on geocaching.com/mark site. It appears that information was copied incorrectly from NGS info as two BM have identical word description I found three disk benchmarks on pier. Took average of 25 location readings from Etrex Legend Aug 29 2009 to improve accuracy. My readings Closest to land with markings 606-92 at N41 23.886 W82 33.022 Avg of 25 Third near Cache GCZ8BF markings scraped off N41 24.032 W82 32.847 Avg of 25 Mid-way our next to pilon at bend in pier with markings 15-92 N41 24.001 W82 32.878 NOTE this location was re-constructed from track as I overwrote Location on my GPS. I have pictures of these three BM. Web Listings appear to have errors. MC0943 N 41° 23.883 W 082° 33.000 NGS Description -AT THE SOUTHWEST END OF THE CONCRETE PIER EXTENDING OUT INTO LAKE ERIE, NOTE this LAT-LON places the benchmark about 67' out in the water. MC0944 N 41° 23.883 W 082° 33.017 NGS Description -AT THE SOUTHWEST END OF THE CONCRETE PIER EXTENDING OUT INTO LAKE ERIE, NOTE this description is the same as MC0943 MC0945 N 41° 23.850 W 082° 33.100 NGS Description - HURON, NEAR THE JUNCTION OF WILLIAMS AND WALL STREETS, AT HOUSE NUMBER 111 (A TWO-STORY WHITE HOUSE) SET IN THE CONCRETE BULKHEAD ON THE NORTHEAST SIDE OF THE HOUSE How can people Log a BM and provide a picture of a BM 1500 feet away? How do we get the web site information corrected to get closer to physical location of BM with 15-92 markings? How do we get the word descriptions fixed? I understand that caches have an "owner". Who "owns" the info on geocaching.com/mark ?
  6. Thanks for info on the number. Thanks to moderator for editing the post.
  7. I came across a coin baring <tracking number removed by moderator> then a 4 digit number. The design is a map of the EU on one side and on the other side a spiral in multiple languages. I have entered the coin number but get no response. This is a heavy coin about 44mm in diameter. Any info would be appreciated.
  8. Print Friendly does not print coordinates for me. Example GC155G3 only has large blank area with waypoint name in large bold for top 1/3 of page then Short Description then Long then attributes then on pg 2 the map. How do I get the coordinates to printout? IE 7.0.5
  9. I submitted a couple errors and within three month both were fixed, and they emailed me back to let me know they were fixed. If you want to see very new Navteq data check out google maps, for some reason they seem to be allitle more uptodate than google earth. http://maps.google.com/ Nice to see someone cares. Garmen hasen't demonstrated an interest in improving accuracy or correcting errors. Too bad I can't buy map software for my Legend C from navteq I reportes a couple of errors but it is slow going when you have a list of over 100 errors.
  10. If you compare what you can see in Google Earth with the reported road location in mapsource in my post you can see numerous examples of the errors. I understand that Garmin gets their info from NavTeq? and I don't know where Google gets their road location info for their overlay and it looks like they have similar errors. My main complaint is the apparent disinterest in Garmin to correcting errors and making the program updates available to those of us that have spent so much $$ with them.
  11. I'm using a Legend C and am pleased with the unit. However for what I have paid for the last 2 versions of MapSource I expected more accurate info and a system that can be updated to fix identified mapping errors. Numerous roads that have been in existance for over 10 years are not located correctly by 650'. Some roads have their location swapped with others. Example in Google Earth at 1200' elivation you can see at N41° 05' 58 W81° 18' 13 The road to the North is swapped with the road to the south in Mapsource. At N41° 0' W 81 0' Leffingwell disconnects by 250' in Mapsource. The Portage Co District Library in the south end of the mini mall at N41° 06 .01 W81° 21.36 is 1/2 mile East of it's actual location in the latest mapsource City Select V7. Near by Circle City CB is over 2 miles to the West of the Mapsource location. The Garmin site for reporting errors is slow and I have yet to see any of the reported errors in an update offered for their $100 maps. I see no reason to purchase any new version until they offer error updates as available for free download to registered users.
  12. Tried something different 5/11/04 dropped a postcard at GCC341 in Ontario, CA. It had space for 5 cache entries and my address w/stamp on it Dr Grasshopper moved it to GCHE43 in Texas Longwalker moved it to GCHZQy Ontario, Canada Boonkat moved it to GCKH68 in Texas 2kLMS found it and mailed it to me in Ohio I learned that I need to be more specific on what to writ on the card as the above is a re-construction and may not be 100% accurate. But it is interesting to see the cooperation of people I have never meet Thanks folks Tireman
  13. I have used a USB > USB mini that came with a camera with no problems in loading maps to my Legend-C. The problem I am having is that I can't find a program that will use the USB to transfer waypoints like EasyGPC. If anyone knows of such please let me know.
  14. Just got the new Legend-C so figured I would get the new City Select. So far I find some 7 new roads in my development entered but they are in the wrong location by about 1/4 mile. These are th only roads I have plotted. A number of businesses are incorrectly identified etc. A large lake and a number of roads in the area, that were in Mapsource no longer are shown. See Topozone, and all other maps associated with N 41° 17.737 W 081° 19.034 I like the routing feature but am very disapointed with the lack of quality. I am not sure if it is worth my time to even enter the info as an error report to Garmine as they don't list City Select as an option when you want to report an error. At this point and until Garmine cleans up their act I suggest you go to e-bay and get an older Mapsource.
  15. Just got a new Legend-C and was in for surprise when I discovered I don't know how to download cache waypoints as both EasyGPS and GSAK are looking for a Com port. Tried the mauals and help files and while EasyGPS refers to UPS and I d/l and installed latest version I still can't get either program to "see" the GPS and USB. Mapsource does d/l through the USB F > A > S > T !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! so that is a big plus but if I have to enter cach waypoints by hand then Can anyone offer a sugestion?
  16. OK, I seem to understand why there are many BMs that aren't in the GC database. So what should I do when I find one that is not listed? I found one at or near N37 20.365 W108 24.740 while lookinf for GCGKX0. See Topo http://www.topozone.com/map.asp?z=12&n=413...u=1&layer=DRG25 Also found a BM at about N38 34.8 W 107 42.9 - Sorry didn't have GPS with me when I took the picture. I find it interesting that both these BM can be found on Topozone maps http://www.topozone.com/map.asp?z=13&n=427...d83&layer=DRG25 I can provide a picture if anyone cares. rwmarble@yahoo
  17. While on vacation in AZ we attempted a couple of cache, one at 35.2167 111.6368. My Garmin ETrax indicated we were almost 600' off a road that showes well on the Topo map. This problem occured for a distance of about 1/4 mile along the road as it took an S curve. No Trees and we were high up with nothing blocking the sky. Later in the day while visiting the Sunset Volcano National Monument we repeatidly lost all but 1 or 2 satillites for about an hour while in the Nat monument area. Again no trees or problems with view of the sky. Still later we were about 50 mi South in Sedona, AZ and had no trouble finding a number of caches so it wasn't the batteries as they continued to work well for a few days . Ideas?
  18. Keystone, Thanks for the clarification on virtual vs physical. I will have to go back and re-read the guidelines for a virtual. Looking forward to getting approval for both a physical and virtual at some time in the future.
  19. Submitted a virtual cache but it was turned down because it was at a "commercial site" ( near amusement park). No biggy. I have another location in planning stage. BUT I am wondering why a cache in the parking lot and on the property of a store like Sears is OK but a virtual requiring answering questions about what you see, from a very specific location off the property, of a different type of commercial site isn't. Don't want to start an argument just want to learn.
  20. Thanks for suggestions. It's been 2 weeks with no reply. I will try and log it in & out
  21. Picked up a TB from a cache but when I got home and tried to complete the log I discovered that at least one previous holder failed to log that he had dropped off the bug. I have mailed the previous listed holder but have not received a reply yet ( 2 weeks). Suggestions?
  22. I have done just what Worldtraveler indicated. BUT I contacted the TB originator first. Check out General Custer. He has benefited from some extensive business travel
