  1. I am in agreement with Tsun on this one. There are so many reasons not to do this: 1. There are some vendors who are very friendly with each other and some who have gone out of their way to be hostile (as a business strategy . . . I guess), it would be tough to bring together these companies together. At GW we hosted a coin makers lunch and we got maybe 1/3 of the vendors who were at GW to show up. If something as simple as lunch is so poorly received I cannot image this would get much support. 2. If someone were in the fold removing them from the fold would be almost impossible and could have some significant legal implications. 3. How would you determine who would be included? Overall, the number of problem companies has been remarkably small and ultimately while the total dollar amounts lost have been in the thousands of dollar, generally the individual losses have been small. I just think it is a system that is not that broken. My thoughts . . . .
  2. Congratulations. I am guessing the fact that it went to the wrong place was probably a contributing factor. I would have had a big impact on me.
  3. This is an interesting question. As a vendor I have had this happen a few times. A couple of thoughts: - The reason we (and I assume most vendors) pay the extra few cents for delivery confirmation on every package is to avoid the problem of having to replace or refund coins that were actually delivered to the customer. I have had several times where someone has come to us saying they didn't get their coins, only to provide delivery confirmation after which they went back and discovered sure enough, the coins just go misplaced. I was also on the other side where the seller did not use delivery confirm, I complained, the coins were replaced and then discovered that I had in fact received them, but misplaced them. They did get sent back. - I have also had a couple of times where I was quite sure that the coins had been delivered but I was being taken advantage of. Those are the hardest ones to deal with. - The bottom line for me really is that it depends on the circumstances. Has it happened before? Are they a new customer or someone who purchases a lot of coins? It might also depend a bit on how many coins it was. - I honestly do think that when a delivery confirm shows it was delivered it is not unreasonable for the vendor to not want to send out replacement coins. Generally though, if it is someone who is a good consistent customer, I would probably send replacements or a refund, the first time. I might then do it a second time but only with conditions, such as requiring that buyer to purchase insurance or pay for priority mail or signature verification. Just my thoughts
  4. We have made a number of these coins for tourism and comercial groups. It is always a struggle to know to how to handle activation. Generally for the tourism groups the coins are activated by the receipents, because the point was to get cachers into a region spending money. Regardless, there are a number of coins out there that you pretty much can only get as activated coins, but the owner is fine with you holding them. It sounds like this is the case for The Dalles-Dash Coin.
  5. A couple or three thousand???????? ops that does include inventory. But probably 700 in collection
  6. Send me an e-mail. I might be able to help. Gotta go look in the coin bin.
  7. There will be another batch offered at 6 am west cost time.
  8. I am not planning on reminting any after this batch sells out with two conditions: - I will allow for a small remint if the shopping cart oversells, which is why I have not annouced the specific quantities made. - If there is a very rapid sell out, early next week we will offer probably two additional version as a 2 day presale. If this happens it will be Sunday / Monday.
  9. I will have to get a blue one for sure, maybe I will get lucky and my husband will buy it for me for my upcomming birthday on the 15th . dadgum I am getting another year older, lol, grey hairs sure are showing it too. Valarie of sweetlife At least you have hair to get grey . . . . .
  10. These coins will be up for sale this week. We are expecting pandemonium on the Hogwild Site for these. In order to bring some sanity. They will be sold in two waves: One tomorrow, around 5:00 pm PDT and likely the 2nd wave on July 4. Approximately 1/2 of the available coins will be sold. There will be 5 flavors offered. 1. Black with glitter with a gold finish 2. Blue with a nickel finish 3. Red with a nickel finish 4. A totally blingy phone that is pink glitter on black nickel 5. Hot Pink LE (100 coins made) - These will not be available for a couple of weeks because the factory blew it on one of the colors (that is the bad news) They will be sold in sets with the error coin and the good coin (the good news). If the timing is right these may be first offered at MWGB. Some photos to tease: Coin Stats: Size: 2.13 inches tall (including antenna) 1.75 inches without antenna / .95 inch wide / over 6.00 mm thick closed. Tracking: of course with a unique icon. Price: Not quite finalized yet, but looks like between $11-$12.50 each and probably $15-16 for the 2 coin LE set.
  11. Agreed and thanks to moderators for reopening it. By reopening it, it has given the artist a chance to respond which is a good thing.
  12. I was kind of surprised when the other thread was shut down. If you were to look back at the forums over the last couple years, you would find various threads where at one time or another almost all of the larger coin makers have been called on the carpet (including Hogwild Stuff). Many times the complaints have been legitimate and if we vendors pay attention, we end up doing a better job running our businesses. We have pretty much all weathered it, because along with the negative information people who have had positive experiences contribute to the story. At first glance, talking about an artist seems more personal, but in reality they are also running a business that should be treated the same as the coin makers in allowing the free flow of information for and against. The vendor or artist has the right to defend or respond as well as others who have used vendors happy or not. While at first this might seem brutal, I would argue this is really the most equitable way to address problems. It is much better than a single person having a vendetta against a vendor then starting a whispering campaign by phone and e-mail. When that happens there is not a free flow of information, just a single person (or small group) stirring up hatred and discord while the one being attacked has no venue to legitimately respond (some personal experience here). I would much rather have the issues aired in a public forum where both sides of the issue can be hashed out. Ultimately good artists, coin makers . . . etc. will survive and thrive and bad one's won't, but allowing the free exchange of information here levels the playing field. My Thoughts
  13. Yep they went out on Tuesday so should be there today or tomorrow.
  14. I am not quite sure what to say. We received the balance of the coins earlier this week. I have been packaging coins as fast as I can. About 2/3's of them have been mailed. The rest will go in the mail on Monday. As we have offered several times before we are still willing to give refunds and cancel the orders. We have been plagued by slow production in China. In fairness to the factory, the coin sheath is complex requiring two parts that then have to be married together. Final note: The coins have been shipped based on when the orders were placed. Steve
  15. This is an interesting question and one that coin vendors spend quite a bit of time thinking about it. A couple of recent examples HWS has dealt with: Sword Coins We knew they would be popular and so we minted a relatively large number of coins. 3 metals 1 of which was an LE. We announced how many were made of those metals but also left open the possibility to mint other finishes. They sold out in less than 10 minutes, so we opened a pre-order for the V2 coins. We did not disclose the numbers on the V2 coins, but the order period was open for 2 or 3 days. If I had not reminted, those who managed to snag coins would have been ecstatic about it. Many other good loyal customers would have been angry, frustrated, disappointed. (As it was, you should have seen some of the unkind emails I received). A couple observations with this coin: I don't have a real good feel for the trade value, because I just don't have enough time to do trading. I tend to just purchase the stuff I want. I do watch eBay sales of my coins and in spite of the fact that there are a relatively large number of coins; the prices have been pretty consistently high. This has been true of other relatively high minting HWS coins, such as the pirate map. Phone Coin Some of you have seen the phone coin samples that have posted in another thread http://forums.Groundspeak.com/GC/index.php...94&hl=phone As in true in real life this phone can be made in an almost endless variety of metals, finishes and colors. Here are the considerations: 1. Do I presale the coins with a variety of colors / finishes? - I sit on my customer’s money for 4-6 weeks before they get the coin. Everyone gets what they want. The traders and eBay sellers are not happy because they perceive a reduced value. - This probably would also net the biggest profit. 2. Do I make my best guess on colors and finishes and quantities then limit it to those choices? This makes traders / eBay sellers happy (assuming the coin is successful). This makes customers who missed out unhappy. It also has the risk of ordering too many coins of a given finish. 3. Do I pick some color / finish combinations attach make a fixed number and then remint a different version. This could be as profitable as #1. 4. Do I just pick the colors / finish then make an unspecified number of coins with no commitment or comment on reminting? This makes the coin available to everyone, but again is not ideal for the eBayers and traders. The other consideration I have is this: I know that not all coins I sell will be a big hit. Some may even just plain flop. I and all coin sellers depend on the hits to provide cushion for the less popular coins. I have never had any one who wants limited numbers come to me on a less popular coin and offer to take the rest off my hands. (Not waiting with baited breath for that to happen either ) So for HWS each one is approached a little differently based on how we view the market. I do think though that assuming, there is a direct correlation to the number of coins minted and their ebay / trade value is very simplistic. I can show you coins with low mintings, (our Pathfinder coin) that continues to do very poorly on eBay. or Prague 2006, Pirates Treasure Map and others, with high mintings that continue to do very well. Ultimately it is about the design. My thoughts . . . .
  16. Hogwild Stuff has looked at doing this, but there are at least three problems: 1. It means you will have to wait longer to get your coins. Some people don't care, but most like to get them as soon as possible. 2. It makes inventory control much more difficult. 3. It is just one more thing that can go wrong in the process of conceiving a coin, getting it made and finally shipped out to a customer. 4. While there might be some savings on the actual postage cost. Most of us would be forced to increase costs in some fashion, to pay for the additional labor of consolidating the orders. The one thing HWS has done for a few customers is create a prepay plan where they make a deposit and then as coins come in they are shipped to those customers and the amount is then deducted from the balance. In those cases, sometime we can combine coins to save a bit on shipping. Though all of the people who do this are more concerned about just getting every new issue rather than saving on shipping.
  17. It appears there is some on-going confusion about the V1 coins. Here is where we are at. If you ordered and paid for a V1 coin they are coming we did not receive quite all of the coins that were ordered. You should have received an e-mail about this 4 or 5 days ago. If you have any questions about this feel free to e-mail us. Steve
  18. Thanks for all the support. I know there were some problems. Since no Geocoin Seller has big volume it is always a problem with a coin that has so much interest. We have received several e-mails of problems and it will take us a day or so to sort them out. In the next 48 hours we will add back the coins we have not yet received (same two finishes as currently listed, but no more LE's) There will not be a huge number of them, but some. We will also be adding two new finish / color combos. One will be a shiny gold the other has not been determined. The number of them sold will only be limited by time. This sale will start at a more Europe Friendly time. Probably early morning PDT. Another email will go out with that info as well as being posted here in the forums.
  19. What to do . . . . What to do? The problem is always how to make everyone happy and bottom line is that we can't. So the coins will go up for sale at the time specified in the e-mail. It turns out that we did not receive all of the coins ordered. So there will be two additional sales on this coin: Once the initial coins have sold out and we have a good date for the balance of the coins they will be offered for sale with the limited quantities. Because there is such high demand for the first batch, There will be a limit of 10 coins per purchaser. If you order more the entire order will be refunded and canceled. If those also sell out, we will then do a two day pre order for additional coins - The additional presale coins will have a different finish / color combination on them. There will be no limit except for time on how many of these that are ordered.
