  1. I concur twolpert , I was looking for objective input and it seems I'm getting it. Cachers have there boots on the ground and there head under the canopy with a handheld where it belongs. Keep the Cuisinart vs Mr.coffee, Coke vs Pepsi dialog going. It will benefit us, DeLorme, & most importantly & hopefully GARMIN [cause it doesn't seem like they have there ears on.] Tnx BL.....
  2. Is that the fka cowboy slim ? If it is then 10-39
  3. OK, back on topic. What's the real world, tire kicking lowdown on this 40 badboy? I've got an itchy wallet and you guys that already have one [some for quite awhile] are killin me. I waited on the 20 because I wanted the bugs to get flushed out [seems they have]. Frankly I was leery of an untested GPS manufacturer. Now the 40 comes out, should I wait for the 60 or will I turn blue ? Hopefully your putting the 40 through the objective ringer for the benefit of us wanabees. Have any lug nuts come off of this wiz bang time measuring devise or is this unit really all it cracked up to be ?
  4. IMHO, the Mr. coffee has a far superior clock display screen and better caffeine acquisition time ! Sort of like the P... oh I ain't goin there.
  5. I also have a 3 yr. old Etrex and my bubble is starting to float toward the 40 This link got me leaning way over to the DeLorme side. Delorme Blog Someone over there should make this blog more obvious [it's kinda buried in a few pages] on the PN 20-40 home pages. There's alot of cachers in there customer target range. And this article got the cacher side of me looking real hard at the PN's.
  6. Just to be clear, I'm not in anyones camp; Garmin or Delorme. From my own research Garmin does have "inland lake maps" to purchase. But a big but here, it's not going to show your "backyard pond", it just has major lakes. I just use my GPSr to get to the lake- pond and let my hook do the rest. That said, IMHO the PN40 is going to get you there in more detail then the garmin. Both should hopefully "on a big lake" get you back to shore. As for fishing performance, I wish I had a gps that could help me with that
  7. Timpat I got it now. If you buy it at TigerGPS you are not going to get Delorme's 50$ rebate. Thanks all, BL...
  8. My experience with TigerGPS has been good, but I don't think that they are on the list of authorized retailers for the rebate (it's only good for certain bricks-and -mortar sellers like REI and Cabellas, I don't have the appropriate link spelling out who at the moment). However, J&R is selling the PN-40 for $290 through 12/1. Thanks embra I was just looking at the fine print on the rebate I printed. DeLorme rebate I'm going to call DeLorme and find out if TigerGPS is an "authorized reseller". Swales you might want to check too !!! Embra are you hinting I should save my pennies and go for the whole enchilada the little woman might not get her new washer . Thanks Chip, I read the thread and I was more confused than when I began.
  9. Hi swales I was just wondering if you know ?.... How is TigerGPS's online reputation, have you bought from them before ? Any problems with the company or products etc....? PS. Thanks for the 5% off tip, with the DeLorme 50$ rebate and Tigers free shipping this sounds like a pretty good deal. TX. BrokenLug...
  10. I know when I first set up my account it didn't work work with my Zip code but has always worked with coordinates. It also seems that pocket queries work better with cords. than zips.
  11. I have not noticed it on cache pages yet, thankfully, but just about everyones profile page I've looked at are all messed up on the left side of the page. IE6 Win xp.... Edit above, I just went back and looked at a bunch of previous finds, the left side of most cache pages are missing and unreadable.
  12. I'm pretty sure this is the relevant thread for this thread : http://forums.Groundspeak.com/GC/index.php?showtopic=206066

What if someone has 100 caches and 75 bugs/coins. They do not check on them as often as they probably should. They have become reliant on the emails to let them know that an "action" has occured on an item. But no one tells them their not going to get an email because it was logged using WAP. Then weeks later their bug has been moved 15 times but is now MIA or not where it's suppose to be, it's going to make back tracking it's movements much more difficult. What about the cache owner who owns those 100 caches, do they really check on all of them every day? No , now he/shes got 3 needs maintenance logs from a week ago that he doesn't know about because he didn't get an email !! I think I could go on and on with examples of why this could be a big problem.

I just tested this WAP email theory. Another account owner has my cache on their watchlist. I posted a note on the regular GC site and they received an email [almost instantly] about said note. When I posted another note on the WAP site they DID NOT receive an email about said note. Both logged notes appeared on the cache page just the WAP one is not linking to the notification system. (I also don't think it has anything to do with what type of log, or email their using) This is a bummer for people supposedly automatically watching their stuff or other's stuff [hence an emailed watchlist]. I can also see this leading to big time problems with TBs. Please can someone look into this !!!

  16. The WAP site sounds like a beautiful thing and handy in the field I'm sure. The point of my thread in the begining (and I admit I've digressed also) was that the owners of those Bugs/Caches are not getting notified of their movements/finds by email. I'm sure most cache/bug owners are use to keeping track of there stuff in this way. I know I am, or was until people started logging there finds/moves with WAP online or wirelessly. Not getting Geomail of any type of log entry is a BUMMER !
  17. I'll check it out later. I know I get an email if I post a note for my own cache page. The other log types I can't say for sure either. [ I can't imagine a good reason why this would be a "feature they want to exist" though ! ] B. L. ....
  18. Thanks , I logged one of my caches as found last night on WAP as a test. (deleted log afterwards) Sure enough no Geomail. Just kind of annoying as a paying member. Not sure if this an oversight or some other reasoning. I don't even know if they know?
  19. Since I'm from the dark ages and don't even own a cell phone this is all Greek to me. I'm lucky that I don't get my pocket queries via snail mail. I get the whole gadget in the field thing , but how many batteries do you guys carry? What do you do when you go where I go and there are no cell towers? Does anyone still carry a compass and map and know how to use them? These must be the dazed and confused looking Geocachers I've been running into lately, with that panicked look of..... "where is my car, I wish I had some matches & water" in there eyes. I'm not anti tech, but it is the great outdoors and mother nature can be mighty crule. Anyone relying soly on a battery operated device far in the field is a fool ! BrokenLug ...... Seek no wisdom, leave no word Common sense is too absurd. 20. Anything logged with WAP the owner of the cache/bug does not get the Geomail ?? I only have a couple of caches and one bug, but I like to know when they have been found/moved . I can't imagine if I owned 50 caches & 20 bugs. I can check the site for the log but I don't have time to do this. I've come to rely on the owner Email notification ! Is there an easy fix for this ? I' m sure this WAP thing is becoming very popular very fast, which is cool, but I'm sure owners are still going to want there Geomail from a kindly cell user/finder to let them know if there cache has been eaten by an aardvark.

  22. I'm also using IE6. And just noticed the ads encroaching the left side on someones profile page.
  23. Interesting because the person who found the cache (and I did not get notified) also moved a bug I own last week and also no notif. What is WAP site ??
