  1. I agree - there is a small problem with using a QR code. where the random code is written is on a handmade, hand drawn pirate treasure map, and the map is drawn on an old piece of driftwood. I suppose i could print a QR code and then hand draw it - not sure if it would work. i can try. any other ideas in case this doesnt work? Thanks R
  2. Hi all I have made a great, fun, UNKNOWN cache in scotland and i have left a random code at the first co-ordinates which can be used to get the co-ordinates of the final point. The problem i have is this: i was intending to have the finders email me the code and i would send the co-ordinates if they struggled with the other method of finding the final point. however, on reflection, i think an automatic way of doing it would be better. so what i need is a website that allows me to hide a couple of lines of text and choose a password (the code at the first point) that anyone can enter to see the info. The info in this case would simply be the final co-ordinates. Does anyone know a suitable site or app? Thanks in advance Ross
  3. I agree - it is not a good thing and i dont want it to become the norm. I am going to contact the reviewer. thanks
  4. part of the problem is that in this country in general, the attitudes towards, litter, graffiti, and rules in general are fairly relaxed. therefore this 'graffiti' as we would call it is not considered a big deal. One of the other rules which is constantly and blatantly broken here is that which says you cannot place within a dry stone wall. i would say that at least half of the caches i have found here have been within walls. one which fell down when i removed the cache to sign the log. i of course did my best to rebuild it.
  5. i would prefer no marker at all
  6. save yourself some cash and buy a pencil! works just as well if not better.
  7. Hi I am looking for some advice. In the area where i live there has been a massive increase recently in the number of caches. This, i think, is fantastic and some are in some lovely spots. Unfortunately, there is something which bothers me and i am not sure how to deal with it as the geocaching community here is incredibly small and i dont want to be ostricised, particularly as i am the only english cacher here. One particular cache hider has a habit of always adding a 2 cm spray painted red dot as a reference point - with the clue being 'red point'. this would be ok in some places but for me it is graffiti, and extremely unsightly when this is done in wild or picturesque places. what should i do? remember tact is extremely important, as there are only about 20 cachers in the whole of the region! Thanks
  8. One point that i have to say i agree with is that i think it is a good idea to find more caches than you hide - dare i say it - maybe for that to even be a rule on geocaching.com. I applaud you for hiding quality caches and not having found many but more often than not, people who hide more caches than they find do not hide quality caches. They are often just another 35mm film canister. I prefer to find creative containers, and solve interesting clues - i particularly like extreme caches (although i havent found any yet as there are none in my area!). In the area where i currently live the number of caches is growing rapidly, which is great. 1 year ago there were only about 100 caches within 50km. Now this is at least doubled. The problem is most of them are just 35mm canisters in a hole in a tree or under a rock. Mostly in very nice locations but for me the location is only a small part of it. BTW i dont see a problem with having a goal of 50 hides - i have myself reached 50 and now i plan to only hide interesting containers. But my main goal in regards to geocaching is to increase the number of cachers in the area. about 8 of my caches remain unfound after months and they are not difficult! i am the only cacher in the town!
  9. The addition of the extra info would still be a good one!
  10. I hate to say it but i think you are mistaken - the vulgar word relating to something to do with women that sounds like ginge actually begins with an 'm'.
  11. Just checked - it seems that i have opted in to get the notifications and the newsletter etc but never recieved anything - so i have checked the blocked senders list on hotmail and i have obviously accidently blocked noreply@geocaching.com by mistake at some point - oops! hopefully i will get the messages now. Thanks R
  12. No I actually dont get notifications sent to my email. i use hotmail and i check the spam folder or junk folder almost everyday. nothing. i am now going to check my settings to see if something is wrong. thanks
  13. Hi I think it would be a fantastic addition to be able to see when the last log was in the list of caches (in an area or your own). I currently own 50 caches and have to look through every one individually to see if someone has posted a question or if there is a minor problem with one. The position of the cache in the list only changes according to when it was found last but what about if there are many posts for DNF. i would never know unless i checked every cache page regularly - which i do but it would be quicker and simpler to just have a column in the table of caches say when the last log was and what it was. What do you think? Ross
