  1. Why not the whole chopper? Just like the car sticker TB's - then cachers can "discover" it on the way to the cache!
  2. Thanks for the congrats guys - yeah, I have slowed down in the past few months, but I have had a few blitzes recently that have helped me over the hump!
  3. Hi Gerhard, Your posts and your log on the Ka-Langalibalele cache have really inspired me! I have contacted Wazat to see if he can join me on a hike there. Where did you start hiking, i.e. where did you park your vehicle? Are you able to send me your tracklog in Mapsource format, so that I can transfer it to my eTrex Vista? Also, the fact that I do not need a passport to get there is great, as my passport has expired!
  4. Season's greetings to all! No caching today, but I've lined up 14 caches on the North Coast of KZN tomorrow (Boxing Day), one of which will hopefully be my 400th find! I know it's short notice, but is there anyone who wants to join me? I'm going up as far as Mtunzini - maybe even Empangeni...
  5. It sounds almost too obvious to be correct, but is it Charlize Theron?
  6. Gosh, I've only just read this thread - sorry if you thought I was ignoring you! What info were you thinking of - the number of cache finds per province? If so, here they are: Eastern Cape - 4,257 (5.44%) Free State - 2,097 (2.68%) Gauteng - 25,334 (32.40%) KZN - 8,224 (10.52%) Limpopo - 3,179 (4.07%) Mpumalanga - 8,268 (10.57%) North West - 2,778 (3.55%) Northern Cape - 536 (0.69%) Western Cape - 23,508 (30.07%) Total - 78,185 (100.00%)
  7. I thought I would find out what the find ratios were for all the SA caches, active, disabled and archived - you can then see how you compare to the national average! Here they are: Traditional cache - 84.72% Multicache - 7.85% Unknown cache - 4.20% Event cache - 1.24% Virtual cache - 1.22% Earthcache - 0.61% Cache In Trash Out Event - 0.10% Letterbox Hybrid - 0.06% Wherigo Cache - 0.01%
  8. Hi Gerhard, I sent you an email last night - did you get it?
  9. According to my database, there are 55 caches placed in the KNP. I was hoping to list the caches, together with each cache's number of finds, but my post was rejected due to its length! However, in summary, there are two caches with 70 finds (Campbell's Hut and KNP:Wild Dogs), with A Tablet Not To Be Taken not far behind (64 finds).
  10. According to my database, TF12 Boyes Falls has the most consecutive DNFs (11) for an active cache, followed by Wierda Bridge (8), Old Bridge (6) and Puddle Duck (5).
  11. Yippee - thanks GlobalRat! My SA database now has 3989 caches - with over 100,000 logs in total! 49MB in size.
  12. Mmmm, as long as it doesn't have any vertigo-inducing spots like the Cathedral Peak cache! The other thing - I've only just realised that this cache is located in Lesotho, so it isn't the oldest SA cache not yet found. That honour belongs to Sweet 'n Tangy by leapfrogg (GCMFYR), placed in December 2004. However, it is likely that it has been muggled, judging from the logs. The next candidate would be Blouberg Views by X-tream Challenger (GCWYBB), placed in July 2006. Now, that looks like a nice challenge!
  13. To answer the original question in this topic, after updating my GSAK database with all the SA caches (3941 caches, including archived caches), I can confirm that the oldest active SA cache not found is Ka-Langalibalele by Lynton and Barend (GCNCDD). It was placed in December 2004.
  14. Glad to oblige, CapeDoc! I ran the centroidhynr.gsk makro on my SA database and it returns the following location: S29 04.142 E26 35.075 Slightly east of Bloemfontein!
  15. I specifically excluded Event caches from my calculations, so I was surprised when you mentioned that this cache was an event cache. I checked it out and it is a traditional cache, but was placed at the time of an event, so most of the finds were logged at the time of the event, and then it went AWOL soon afterwards. Not sure how to exclude this type of cache from my calculations...
  16. Mr DamhuisClan - you have clearly not read my posts properly! In post #20, I stated that my definition as follows: "My definition is the number of finds divided by the number of days between the date of the cache listing and the date of the last find." Read post #8 for the answer! Makro called FoundLogsCount.gsk.
  17. Good point! I have now filtered my database to exclude any caches placed since 30 September 2008, so the top most frequently found caches are as follows (not very different to my first list): 1. GC137CQ Reservoir - 3.50 finds per day 2. GC17RMF Rose Garden - 3.33 finds per day 3. GC1F149 Down by the river - 2.67 finds per day 4. GC1F146 Tree with a view - 2.67 finds per day 5. GC17RNK Old Diamond Mine - 2.67 finds per day 6. GC17RN4 Island View - 2.00 finds per day 7. GC17BKJ Termite House - 1.50 finds per day 8. GC1EY96 Mill Point View - 1.40 finds per day 9. GC1BZZ9 Little Egypt - 1.14 finds per day 10. GCYF8F Rock with a View - 1.00 find per day
  18. Aha! You are quite right - thanks for clarifying that for me. At least I know that my database is not lacking any active caches...
  19. Mmmm - how does one define frequency of finds per cache? My definition is the number of finds divided by the number of days between the date of the cache listing and the date of the last find. Based on that definition, here is my top 10 most frequently found cache (give or take a few days outdated caches). I have excluded event caches from the list. 1. GC1HN8E Halloween 2008 - 1.50 finds per day 8. GC17BKJ Termite House - 1.50 finds per day 9. GC1EY96 Mill Point View - 1.40 finds per day 10. GC1GZKH Of Grave Concern - 1.29 finds per day
  20. GlobalRat, I've been doing a bit of checking on the number of caches in my database, as well as on the GC site itself, and I can't see how you get to the 4,000 odd caches in SA? My database of 3572 caches includes event caches and archived caches. When I do a search of all SA caches, using the "Hide and Seek a Cache" function, I get 3118 caches listed.
  21. Oh no! Don't tell me that my database is incomplete! I can't face the thought of doing another 400...
  22. How much is it worth to you? Some nice dry biltong will do the trick! Seriously though, send me a PM with your FTP details and I'll gladly do it for you.
