It's a bad idea to "Virtual log" TBs while they are traveling cache to cache. "Virtual logs" make it difficult to track a TB. The "discoveries" are all about seeing a number on the web. This can get a TB locked, TBs that people bought for travel. The owner may have to lock it. I don't know for sure that GS still routinely locks them, but I'm sure the option remains.
But Owners can do what they want. They could publish the number just for this purpose, and many do. They could have a decal on their car or clothing. But, yeah, if I only see in on the Interwebs, that's not enough for me. I must at least see the item in person. I have a trackable Geocoin number for my car, and if anyone wants to hold the actual Geocoin, I can get it for them. It's in the car.
I just like finding them in caches.

They share tracking codes by the hundreds. Check out this site to log them all at once.
Huh. I see on there that "coming soon" to log all geocaches.

Yeah, the caches in my example are not especially maintained. The rangers give hints, or even know the leetle trick to get the metal ball unstuck or whatever. But the CO remains as the maintenance service. In the case of most parks or land managers who decide that regular maintenance is important, I'd expect they'd repair it directly, not hire out. Their own staff can handle repairs of stuff.
One thing about the idea of a "Maintenance Service" is, what you actually need is to get the cache fixed before it's a serious problem. Such as, the seal has failed, but everything is not yet ruined. Most attentive cache owners fix that before it's what you call "maintenance issue" and even before any logs about a problem. Whether or not people would pay a "Maintenance Service" to fix such a minor issue, I can't tell. "They charge a fortune, but all they ever do is fix a little seal or something".
That reminds me. I need to pull one of my caches, and give it some TLC. It's been out for a year and I've never checked on it even though no one has reported any problems.

Maybe a picture of your TB is posted with the tracking number visible or the tracking number has made it onto a list that's shared (like on one or more facebook groups). If you are confident that your TB was not really discovered but the trackingcode was obtained somewhere you can always delete the log(s).
BTW, on a local forum someone asked for a list of TB tracking numbers in order to have enough TBs "discovered" to be able to log a Challenge cache.
So basically someone sees a tracking code on the TB on a Facebook post or something, and they log it as discovered? That seems a little outside of the rules for logging a TB. TB's are to be found in caches, am I right?

Or, they may be on call by a State Park, for the amazing “Geo Trail” that was set up. You know, for those cool, huge gadget caches that broke months ago. The door was pried open so many times, by the time you go, you don't have to work the puzzle. It opens right up. The company could rebuild those on a schedule, funded by the park service.
Its would be many, many months if not almost a year to get something like that approved (if at all) to be paid for by State parks (and one would probably be told 'no' a lot). Generally speaking, because that's how slow local government operates. At least in Washington State.

I didn't even know someone could find a trackable online.
Oh, I see what's happening now. Nevermind.

I know it's not feasible, but I wish that people would have to be mentored for their first five finds by a seasoned responsible geocacher. Then maybe people would be taught to read cache descriptions, follow directions, CITO, write decent logs that aren't just "TFTC" and trade up or equally.
There are plenty of cachers who've been around for a long time that leave "TFTC" in their Found it! log.

Something special you'd care to share, or just for consistency's sake?
I think for the most part for the consistency. And to cut down on some maintenance issues I've been having with a couple caches. My micro's keep growing legs.

The final destination is a candy shop (Rocket Fizz) in my town.
There's a Rocket Fizz in my area, too. I've been meaning to go in there...

Just wondering what everyone is working on? I imagine with challenges being reinstated there are quite a few people working towards putting together a new challenge and hopefully we've also got many here working on other exciting things as well. Could be placing a cache, a cool puzzle or multi, or even just personal geocaching goals. So, whatcha got going?
(I'll post my current project later in the thread to avoid it seeming like it's about my specific thing.)
I am working on converting all of my cache hides to the same type of container. Except one the area doesn't allow for this type of container.
I am also working on trying to reach 1,000 Finds by the end of the year, and would like to purchase a 1,000 Finds coin once I'm there.

I take that back. I picked up a rubber ducky once. I still have it.

I pay a cache finding service to go find and log my caches. All my logs were made by them. I never leave the recliner! It saves on gas, wear & tear, there are no ticks or mosquitoes to deal with. They even type my Forum posts for me. Kunarion is the best!
One reputation point for the LoL's.

I'm not much into collecting swag myself. The last piece of swag I took out of a cache was last year and it was a small rubber ducky. One day I hope to convert it into a cache to keep it in the game.

Yeah, it's a pretty cool hobby, and well worth the premium membership fees.

There is definitely no NEED to pay anyone for anything in this hobby. But that doesn't change the discussion as to whether or not there are those who would WANT to pay for such a service.
Sure. That's what we are doing.

Since the OP is on PEI, I looked to see how prevalent Premium Member Only (PMO) caches are. Only about 8% of the caches on PEI are PMO. Of course, there are many benefits of Premium Membership besides the ability to view PMO caches, especially for app users.
Basic Members are limited in how many and/or what types of caches they can view via apps, even if the caches are not PMO. Those restrictions are removed for Premium Members. The Help Center outlines how the official app behaves differently based on membership level HERE.
There are other benefits of Premium Membership, which are listed HERE, that can make searching and planning cache hunts easier.
Good to see that the OP has a chance to try out a Premium Membership. Just wanted to make them aware that the benefits extend beyond just seeing PMO or Advanced caches on the app.

Ah. Throw downs... I'm working on a series of C&D caches (some humor involved). The CO had been missing for a few years, but has signed in recently. I would guess that most of the caches are throw downs. Very interesting variety of micro containers. Almost all (but not all) of the hides are identical. Behind an electrical pole, under a rock. The poles are about 277' apart. The coords are not very accurate. (It is an interesting and beautiful place to hike or bike.) I saw two great blue herons today!! On the way out (yes. I walked about three miles today) there was one That was in an area between two poles. Not at the first one. Continues on. Ah. There's a throw down behind a pole 190' off. Okay. On the way back,I checked the coords again. Hmmm... There's a throwdown behind a tree on the other side of the path. I found it twice! (But with the new system, I cannot log it twice.
) Yeah. I know most of these containers are throw downs. Great area, but the CO should be doing maintenance. Checking coordinates. Replacing throw downs. But I doubt that's going to happen.
Coordinates are off, and multiple cache containers near and around GZ. Someone should be logging NM logs if this is happening. And if enough NM logs are posted, eventually, if no CO action, then caches are archived.

I'm kinda with you on the concept, it's not something I would ever consider using, but I don't think that's how it's intended to work.
The idea is I still manage my caches as I always have, but if a situation arises where I get a notification that one of my caches needs maintenance but I'm away on holiday, or really busy with other stuff (or I just can't be bothered), then rather than leave it until I have time I could call the guy and say "hey my cache GC????? at N?? ??.??? W?? ??.???" is broken, please go and replace it, the container is a 1L lock-n-lock", money changes hands, the cache gets fixed, and everyone's a winner.
No need to change any notification/mail/login settings.
I can't see how the service would fall foul of any Groundspeak guidelines, unless you start advertising the service on cache pages on Groundspeak's own forums, but as others have said I can't see anyone making enough money out of it for it to be a profitable proposition.
If you cache falls apart while you're on holiday just write a note saying you're on vacation, and you'll tend to your cache once you're home. If you're gone for longer then a month, just update your cache log with another note saying you're on vacation so people know what's going on. Pretty easy. No need to pay someone for anything in this game.

It's great that we collect points for finding caches, attending events, etc, but when will we get some points (read recognition) for hiding caches. After all, if no one hid the caches to begin with, there wouldn't be any caches to find. Let's hear it for the hiders !!
Let's hear it for the volunteer staff that make it all happen for us.
