  1. I came across this topic this morning and have to agree. I have found pure trash in some caches. It is rude and inconsiderate of these people to leave junk that should be put in a trash can. A little common sense and curiosity from people is to much to ask for these days. Very sad ....

    SWAG

We stole it from Radio announcers who give away swag all the time. When we started using it we didn't change the meaning. It's in a dictionary as what it is. That's interesting you stole the word from a radio announcer .... I never heard of the word and until I came to this site. I thought it was an acronym. For newbies it would be nice to have it in the geocache Glossary for quick reference ......

    SWAG

Since you are advocating not adding the word swag to the Geocaching Glossary page based on the fact that it is a regular dictionary word would you be willing to advocate removing any word from the Geocaching Glossary that is also a regular dictionary word and carries the same meaning as in the dictionary. The list of words to remove includes: cache datum GPS latitude longitude spoiler waypoint This was a good point you had. I appreciate your thoughts .....

    SWAG

"Sealed with a gift" is cute. I really liked that acronym, I also found "Stuff we all get" ..... but it is just a normal word in the dictionary, I find out. This is the reason, I was suggesting adding it to the Geocache Glossary. Happy Geoing.......

    SWAG

Yep here's the link: http://www.geocaching.com/about/glossary.aspx The person that uses the handled (Keystone), says it is used as an Acronym. Keystone states, What is "swag"? some say this is short for "stuff we all get" Swag means the trade items that we swap at geocache and carry in our back packs. I think this would be good to add to the glossary. I had to enter several forms before finding this information out .... Either way swag is still just an item of some value (or not, depends on how you look at it), the glossary shouldn't be cluttered with everyday words, just specific terms to geocaching (that aren't all that widely known). Swag seems to be a no brainer. From: http://geolex.locusprime.net/ Swag- Not exclusive to geocaching. Contrary to popular thought, “swag” is not an acronym, nor is it a recently invented term. The word has been around for several centuries. It has a number of meanings, but the one utilized in geocaching stems from “swag” as referring to stolen or plundered loot. In more modern times, it's come to mean free promotional items, like you might get at a trade fair or an expo. Because of this, in a bit of creative reverse-etymology, people have come to say that it's an acronym for “Stuff We All Get”, which is clever, but completely wrong. In geocaching, the usage of “swag” would just mean the trade items found in a cache, or things that could be used as trade items. "swag" is used on the geocach enough to add it to the glossary, it is not a word used in the everyday language. There are all ages using the geocache web, different states, countries, wide rage of educational back grounds, and those that do not have a great knowledge of vocabulary words. You may think swag is a no brainer but I asked several people and no one knew. Adding "swag" would not over load the glossary.

    SWAG

On the main Geocache page, on the top left hand side, there is a title called "getting started", I clicked on that, then there was a heading "Geocashing Guides" under that there are sub headings. The 6th sub heading has "geocaching.com glossary... are you confused? I know I would be ...... I may not be able to explain it to you clearly, but there is a geocaching glossary ....

    SWAG

I did not know what swag meant, neither did my partner. When I searched the form, it said it was used as a geocache acronym, as follows: swag was short for "stuff we all get" It would just be good to add it to the Geocache glossary for us not up on our vocabulary or for those that use it as an acronym ....

    SWAG

I suggested adding SWAG to the Geocache Glossary and got this response: Hello, Thank you for your feedback. Since this is a concept that affects all geocachers, I am going to suggest that you post this in the Geocaching.com Web site forum. You can reach this forum at this link http://forums.Groundspeak.com/GC/index.php?showforum=8 Eric Groundspeak, Inc. Ticket Details =================== Ticket ID: DZM-625072 Department: Geocaching Priority: Low Status: Closed So, how about adding "SWAG" to the glossary? Thanks for taking the time to read this ..... 12. I am knew at this, but I tried to read the rules before going out to find the caches. If you take something, you are suppose to leave something in it's place. If you take a Travel Bug "T.B.", you have two weeks to place the t.b. in a new place, also, you are suppose to post on line, you have the item and when you plan to hide it again..... I don't know all the rules and etiquette's of the sport yet, but there is a page that gives you a some guide lines to follow...
