  1. I hate SPAM. Posting the same thread in more than one forum is considered SPAM. Since you have also posted this on in the Garage sale forum, that is where this should stay. I'm going to close this thread, please do not re-post it. Team Misguided
  2. He's not hard to spot, look for a Hawaiian shirt Jim But Jim.......It's the GeoLUAU, we'll all be in Hawaiian shirts! So just tell her that anyone in a Hawaiian shirt would be happy to help her.
  3. Links to the sites would turn this into a commercial thread and would force it to be shut down. Google is your friend.
  4. If no caching vets are attending the conference perhaps a cacher would be willing to meet with your boss to grab the coin.
  5. Been there, done that, got the geocoin. (Did it before it was cool during the same trip in 2005.) So, is Chick-Fil-A going to be a sponsor? Might be a hard sell since we don't have a Chick-Fil-A up here.
  6. One of the best ideas I've heard of is a fully stocked cache private cache that is hidden just for the Birthday Boy. You can make it as simple or complex as you want and then they get the fun of hunting a cache and at the end they get a container full of gifts and something that they can re-hide later. ** Since I notice that you've spammed all the regional forums with this thread I'm going to close this one. **
  7. I'm bummed, we were going to head over to the Mt Rainier CITO but my family is having a big to do for my Grandmother's 85th birthday that day. The mountain will still be there next year, I'm not so sure about Gramma.
  8. The other thread is for closed roads, this is for opened roads. Don't you understand the difference? Seriously, they probably could be combined. I kept trying, but the site has been so wonky this week with the upgrades that everytime I tried to get in to merge the two the forums were down. I've gotten the two merged now and changed the title so it covers both opening and closing of the roads/trails.
  9. The best reply so far has been from sTeamTraen Waymarking is a great way to highlight interesting places that you'd like to tell people about.
  10. Before you head out look carefully at the cache page. Check the attributes for caches that are marked as kid friendly. Look for terrains that are in the lower range. I'm not sure what you or your son are capable of terrain wise, but something with a lower terrain will often have a shorter walk. Look for caches that are listed as regular sized containers not smalls or micros. My kids got bored with those real quick because there wasn't anything in them to trade. There is nothing better than watching a kid pouring over the goodies inside an ammo can. When possible, test run the cache by yourself first. That way you'll know what to expect in the cache. You can also add a few kid friendly items if it's running low. Another thing you can do if you are sneaky enough is keep a few goodies handy so you can quickly drop them into the ammo can if necessary when you find it. Finally keep your cache runs short. Kids have attention spans the size of gnats. As soon as he starts getting frustrated with searching for caches it's time to stop for the day. If you keep going after he's reached his limit he won't enjoy it.
  11. I merged the two threads on this article.
  12. Unfortunately you can't delete a post. What some people do is edit the duplicate copies so that only one has the full & correct text that they wanted to say. A tip for you with regards to the forums. Sometimes (okay frequently) when you click the button to submit your post the servers will hang for a long, long time. Then you'll get an error message and it leads you to think that your post didn't go through. Before you try to re-post double check by backing out to the main forum and then going back to the thread you were trying to post to. If you post isn't there after that, then you can try posting again. Chances are that you post will be there.
  13. This also brings up and interesting point. The Kitsap County Challenge was *required* to post the final co-ordinates on the log page instead of the past practice of e-mailing the co-ordinates after the challenge was completed. The ALR was if you did not complete the challenge and logged the cache your log would be deleted. I guess with the recent changes now any one can find the cache and log the find with out doing the challenge and the CO can not delete the find. I guess the only recourse at this time is a list of shame along with the list of finders that had seemed to complete the challenge. But perhaps the honesty of the majority of cachers will prevail and all will be fine. Jim jholly - Webscouter is correct. The Kitsap County Challenge cache will not be affected by the change to the Additional logging requirements guideline. The same goes for any other challenge cache. Jester - I don't have the time, or desire, to seek out every ALR cache that has been published in the state and change the cache type. If, however, the cache owner requests a type change I will help them.
  14. It's generally measured as a straight line distance. As far as barriers go, it needs to be something like a river or other such natural obstacle that would require a significant detour to get from one to the other. One good example would be two caches on opposite banks of a river. 300 feet apart but the only way to get from one to the other would be to drive downriver a mile to the nearest bridge and back up to the other cache.
  15. Which brings us full circle to my first suggestion. Boring Old Farts. Another club that if you are a member, you probably know all about it. Lil Devil, you seem to know quite a lot about it. Is that the pot calling the kettle black?
  16. Merged duplicate threads and duplicate posts.
  17. There is a badge of honor when you get your first "hate mail". I have mine framed on the wall by my desk.
  18. Send an email into contact@geocaching.com and explain the reason for the requested name change and what you'd like to change your account name to. Someone from the main office will contact you about your request.
  19. Closing thread with duplicate posts. I moved the non-duplicate posts to the existing milestone congratulation thread.
  20. Issue has been taken care of, I'm closing this duplicate thread.
  21. One thing that I'd offer up is that when bringing something like this to the forums, there is a fine line between not enough information and too much information. In this case, I think it might have been better if you had left out the names of the other cachers. You could have asked your question on etiquette, given a general description of the situation but kept the specific details to a minimum.
  22. I had heard that some REI stores were carrying Groundspeak items. I'm not sure which ones however.
  23. It's winter time in Washington. It is likely to be cold and wet. With a slight chance of it being damp and cool. There is a very, very slim chance that it will only be moist and nippy but that doesn't happen very often. The weather here changes quickly this time of year, check the local weather forecasts and be prepared for anything.
