  1. Add us to the list of people who saw Brian over the GeoWoodstock weekend but didn't visit with him thinking we'll see him at another event when it's a little less crazy. As others have said, this is a lesson on how life is short and we should never miss the opportunity to let someone know what they mean to us. While we didn't know Brian well, we did know what a kind and generous person he was. The Northwest caching community (and beyond) has a hole in it now that will not heal anytime soon.
  2. Of course you know what this means. You owe us a beer when we come to town next spring! Better yet, you come up here and we'll buy you one.
  3. Great article. First one in a long time (if ever) that didn't have the word buried in it.
  4. I clearly remember the hug you gave me. I'm still fantasizing. It was one of the highlights of my weekend, as was hugging Lil Devil. It seemed like every time I turned around I was giving someone a hug. I heard someone say that GeoWoodstock is like a family reunion but with the family we choose.
  5. I knew if I searched hard enough I'd find proof that Jenn needs a Jeep. This one is not photo shopped.
  6. I took my old trusty Mini-Van up/down some logging roads that would scare many of the so called 4x4's on the road today. But unless you are looking at is as a strickly commuter car I just don't see a mini-Cooper as a cache mobile. Besides you'd look so good in a Jeep. I saw you on Friday night. That counts as an attended doesn't it.
  7. The iPhone app, or any similar phone geocaching application, are great companion tools for geocaching. They work best in conjunction with a stand alone GPS unit and/or by experienced cachers who know what to look for when they get within 100 feet. I've heard reports of the coordinates obtained from the iPhone app being off by up to 75 feet. That will get you to the right area but may not help you much if it's a micro. I'd suggest looking at the cache pages closely at first and pick out ones that have regular sized containers. Those are often (but not always) easier to find.
  8. They are both very well known organizations, but it seems like the SAGA site has been hacked, I can't verify the same about the Clackamas site but I'm thinking that maybe the case there as well. I've visited both sites in the past so I know that those links used to work.
  9. Prying Pandora picked up our super sized ammo box this evening and will be taking it up to the Annette Lake trailhead in the morning. It's not quite as big as the ape cache container but it's pretty good sized. It will be a make do replacement until we can find the lid and get the real container back in business.
  10. Your best bet would be to drive north and find a park-n-ride along I-5 then take Metro to the event. I hate driving in Seattle on a good day and finding parking around the event site will be tough.
  11. We didn't need three separate threads on this topic so I've merged them all together. This is a very important issue, but let's just keep the discussion to one thread.
  12. Groundspeak does not adopt caches out with out the owners consent, so no worries about your caches being given away.
  13. Nice try, but it always rains on the 4th of July, and memorial day, and labor day and .... ... every day in between.
  14. One of the things we heard most at GW7 was about how well maintained all of the local caches were. This event is a way for us to show the world what I've known for a long time, that the Pacific Northwest is the best place to be a geocacher. If you have anything that may prevent you from getting out to your caches in the next month please don't hesitate to ask for help. I'm sure that there are other cachers in your area who would be happy to step up and help. If you simply do not want your cache to be visited by the GW8 visitors please disable it and post a clear note on the cache page indicating the dates it will not be available. If possible remove the container for that period of time. **Do not archive your cache as you will not be able to unarchive without the help from a reviewer**
  15. McMenamin's has several locations around the Northwest. They have good food & beer in unique settings. Some of their locations even have hotels. If you will be in Portland you have to go by VooDoo Doughnuts.
  16. Closing duplicate topic.
  17. hey calendar master :^) there's an event on the calendar for next week, Geocaching 102, that shows up in West Virgina when viewing the cache page just thought I'd let ya know The GC# should be GC24DA5
  18. Keystone beat me to my post, he's always on top of things!! GeoTourisim is a very real thing. We've seen this happen with many small communities in Oregon hosting geocaching challenges and people will come from miles away, stay in hotels, dine in resturaunts and spend their money locally while they hunt for caches. When you consider mega-events like Geo-Woodstock or the Midwest GeoBash the economic impact of geocachers is signifigant.
  19. The problem is you are not using a flux capacitor with the optional Mr. Fusion attachment. I used mine and everything is as it should be now.
  20. While you are looking................... My son has one that's been bouncing around Europe for a few years that would like to come home. NidoQueen Neato
  21. I merged the new thread with the existing topic for geocacher sightings.
  22. What I suspect is more likely the case is that they simply don't want to bother maintaining the caches after the event.
  23. Merging this with the already existing thread.
  24. Moving this one the the correct regional forum. Good luck finding your GPS.
  25. The volunteer reviewer you contacted is taking a much needed break from reviewing. The vacation responder email you should have received would have given you instructions on how to contact one of the other local reviewers to help you with your caching related query.
