  1. So you mean you basically end up paying a hundred or so bucks a year to get a map that is three years old? Seems kind of high to me. murph
  2. Does anyone know how often the maps themselves are update in City Select. I know they just came out with an update but that update was more for the operating system. What I am seeing is the newwer roads that I am familiar with take about three years old before they start showing up on City Select. Does any one know how often the map itself is upgraded? murph
  3. Get what up to the max? If I select Max on City Select you can't see the areas to click on. I know the GPS doesn't know, but do I only transfer what I see on City Select to the GPS?? murph
  4. When transferring maps to my 60CS from City Select does it make any difference where you have the display settings at on City Select. In other words if I set the map detail on high do I get more information on my GPS or not? Like I said it may be a dumb question but I just had to ask. murph
  5. I got the Gilsson external one for my CS. I got the 3 foot as I didn't want to long of one. I am mounting a PDA mount on my console of my pickup for ease of use. I have the Gilsson external on the dash. Having the GPS on the dash is a blind spot that our local cops like to give tickets for. But I have found for the most part my CS does work on the console without the external antenna. murph
  6. I got mine from GPSGeek.com. It was around 8 bucks and they shipped it out right away. murph
  7. I got my second Gilsson external antenna today. First one did not work, the new one does work, however, now when I do auto-routing I loose my 1. something mile advance warning beep. I still get the one at about .4 miles. I looked under settings and it is not muted. Anybody else have this problem? If I disconnect the antenna then I get all of my beeps back? murph
  8. You have got to be kiddin me I hope I never run across one. I take my daughter out there with me. To me that would be about as disgusting as it can get. Please stay home if you want to run nude. ick
  9. The suction cup mount for the Vista works fine for the CS. The one with the expandable jaws. In fact I like it better than the new suction cup mount for the CS. The one for the CS is very cumbersome to use with the a/c adapter and because the adjustments is limited your passenger has a better chance of seeing the GPS than you do. The Vista one has a wand on it to move it in the direction you want. There is a suction mount PDA holder out there that works great also with the CS. But I am very dissapointed in the Garmin suction mount for the CS. They obviously wasn't thinking. Just my opinion I guess. I wrote to Garmin but have not heard back from them at all after two weeks now. murph
  10. No, you cannot "ERASE" the map memory. You can only push existing data out with new data. You could upload the original POIs that were factory installed by Garmin. Just go to the "Software Updates" page for your model GPSr, and on the right side of the page you'll see "Download Preloaded POI Database for YourGarminGPSrModelHere". Download that file and run it. Or, you could load 1 map segment for a location very distant from yours. If you're in Florida, load 1 map segment from Alaska. If you're in Alaska, upload 1 segment from Florida. I did download and install the original POI's from Garmin. The transfer was successful but my GPS at the map page still says Mapsource in the lower left hand corner? And when I go to the menu it still shows all the maps I uploaded from City Select. I can uncheck them. But to me the maps are still there even if I do uncheck them as I can check them and turn back on? I do want to clear everything out and start over now that I kind of got a hang of things. murph
  11. Got to www.gpsgeek.com. $12.70 for a data cable and auto power adapter. It has a serial port for your computer. murph
  12. I would check the tightness of your batteries. Mine seem to sit tight in there but when I would take the cover off one of batteries was always out of the socket. Mine would shut down every so often also but I did not loose any waypoints or anything like that. I put some cloth on my battery cover to make the batteries stay down and I have not had any trouble since. It is funny cause my Vista had the same problem two years ago. I love my CS but I really wished Garmin would have seen this problem coming. murph
  13. Mine works. But now that I have City Select maps on how can I get the base map back. I would like to get back to the one that came with the GPS just so I can do some comparisons. Murph
  14. There is a bunch of the CS's on ebay. It is weird to see the current bid on some of them close to what I paid for mine or higher. I would worry some about warranties when you really don't know who your buying from. I would spend at least twenty bucks more than over ebay. murph
  15. I have had my CS now for about three weeks. I have really loved it. The only problems I have had is a lockup when using the auto-route feature. This has only happened three times now after using about 50 times so I am not worried about it. As far as a fix for it I am sure it will come with one of the updates that you get off the internet. Nothing I don't think you would have to send it to repair. As far as other problems I have been watching for problems and I really don't know of any with the GPS unit itself. I have read of some problems using the map products and cable connections but not nothing really of the unit itself. I am very happy and I don't think Garmin will change the design of the unit only software updates. Personnaly I don't think waiting will gain you nothing. I remember when I bought my Vista a couple of years ago. When I got it there was three updates available for it already. Just my opinion for whatever it is worth. murph
  16. I waited twenty minutes with mine. In fact my calculation screen usually doesn't even come up. It looks up just before that right after I click follow road. Mine has never locked up while auto-matically re-routing. murph
  17. Did this one have the problem with the ribbon cable coming loose. When it goes out the next time try squeezing the unit and see if the display comes back on. Usually it ends up with lines in it but I thought some of them did go out totally. Murph
  18. Idon't know if this has anything to do with it or not but I have noticed tha when mine locks up it is when I am moving. It has never locked up while sitting still. But sometimes I hit GoTo while I am driving and that is when it locked up. And that is when it is most frustrating cause now I have to stop and take the batteries out. murph
  19. The 60CS does support auto-routing without mapping software. The only advantage you would have with City Select is you will get more detailed streets. Example, our street is not on the CS but since I uploaded the City Select our street is now on the CS. Our street is only a three year old street. If the Topo's are important that is the way I would go as the CS will give you the majority of the streets. murph
  20. Took my CS out on a trip today where I had to put in about 4 auto-routes. From City to City. It locked up on me also when using the GOTO. But mine does not get to the "Follow the Road" question though. It locks up right after I click on GoTo. Mine has locked up a couple of times before but I never traced it to the using the GoTo feature. Now I know. I hope this a problem Garmin sees and can be fixed with a software update. murph
  21. I've learned not to use City Select for auto-routing. I have found that it does take you on some goofy routes. I have my regions or maps uploader to my GPS and I allow my GPS to do the thinking. Does a much better job. murph
  22. Are you auto-routing with a map source program or are you letting the CS do it. I found the same problems with the City Select. Now I just use the find address feature and then click on goto. Then by road and it works just great for me. Once in a while I will see it take me off a road only to put me right back on it but when you let the CS do the auto-routing it re-calculates itself every so often. murph
  23. I don't know if this is the same thing or not but my CS has locked up twice on me. In other words none of the buttons work including the power button. The only way to get it to work was to take the batteries out and then re-insert them. I thought maybe others would complain about this if they were having problems. Anyway if it keeps up I will send it back to Garmin. murph
  24. I guess what I am really lookin for is do you reposition your own gps for in the future if you ever come back. I am not worried about the owners cache it self as I know there will be variances from one gps to another. Do you just hit reposition here when you find a cache or not?? murph
  25. How many people here after finding a cach will set your cache waypoint to reposition here. I know that at times my GPS may be as far as 20 feet off the mark but so far I have just left the cordinates alone. How many actually reposition and change the cordinates? murph
