  1. I have beat the living day lights out of mine. 60cs and have had no problems. I even have the glass broken and it still keeps on going. I put it on the handle bars of my ATV and run threw some pretty rough country and I have it on the dash of my boat which gets knocked off and on the floor many times. The only thing I have as disapointment is right now since I uploaded the latest software is it's response time has become very slow. So I will make a post to that in another thread for others to see. murph

    Boiundary Waters

I have some friends that want to use my GPS while visiting the Boundary Waters in Northern Minnesota. Does anyone have any waypoints/points of interest that I could pre-load in my GPS for them? I have a Garmin GPSMap60CS. If anyone is interested in sharing please send them to me via email to "thcri@qwest.net". Thank you in advance. murph
  3. Can anyone tell me the difference between the Blue tooth navigation system versus the Pharos system on the Dell Axim?? murph
  4. I use my compass a lot. There has been many discussions in regards to the compass. Some people say you should have a hand held one anyway just in case your GPS go defunk. I am glad I spent the extra money on the CS over the C. Murph
  5. Don't want to through a wrench in your gears. Yes the 76 has more memory. But go put one in your hand versus the 60. The 76 is larger and the keys being above the screen make it tough for you to use with one hand. The 60 having the keys below allows you to hold and operate in one hand lots easier. Being bigger also makes it tough to fit in a pocket or strap. I am not steering you one way or the other. I have the 60 but at times with mapping wished I had the 76. But for on my bike and ATV I would never want the 76. A friend of mine just bought the 60. I told him to check out the 76 and he did and came back and said no way. He got the 60. Just check into it. murph
  6. Just save your information or you can call Garmin when you have installed it on your other puter. I have it on three computers. The second on the code information did not work and alls I did was call Garmin and they unlocked it for me from the web. murph
  7. Does anyone know how to do the master reset on the 60CS. My manual does not show me how to do it. I am sure I can't get a hold of Garmin this week-end. murph
  8. If this is your first GPS I would go with something you feel comfortable with. If it is the Color then go for it. You will find in a couple of years and you get to understand and know more of what you can do with a GPS you will be upgrading. That happens to just about everyone. As far as pricing, I am a Garin fan so I can't help you much. I would go out on the web and see what you can find. www.gpsnow.com www.gpsdiscount.com www.gpstiger.com There is lots of places you can get them. Most places don't give you the true price until you click on "add to my cart" But this way you have an idea. murph ps. I check www.gpsdiscount and found a price for $295.00. If is has the same accessories it is a good price. Is this a unit Cosco has had for a while?
  9. I have noticed lately my Garmin 60CS is locking-Up about once every two or three days. I have it in my pickup with an external antenna and every so often it just locks up. Mostly after I have been auto-routing and I click on "Stop Navigating" It is then the pointer just stays even while I am moving. I have to shut it down, which means I have to hold the On/Off button for about twenty seconds or there is times I even have to take the batteries out. Then when I turn it back on it takes forever to find the satellites. It has the newest software version 3.5 on it. Has anyone else had this trouble or is it just me. murph
  10. I found out with my Vista was to just play with all the buttons and you would run into more things than you can imagine. The more you mess with them the more you find. You can't hurt it by pushing buttons. murph
  11. I had the Vista(not the c model) and I now have the GPSmap60cs. I like the 60 much better. The rocker switch versus the peg is not as nice but have gotten use to it. But I love the larger screen since my CSTSS is getting bad. I like the City Select and the maps but you won't get all the mapsrequired to go on the trip you explained. You will need bring along your laptop and add as you go, otherwise send me the route you plan on taking and I could load my 60 and see how much of the route I can actually get in for you. murph
  12. I have found with most GPS that the elevation is only at best "close" Even if I take mine and take a reading, walk away and come back I will get a different reading. At one particular spot one time we would took 4 different GPS and one at a time laid them on a picnic table out in the open. You wouldn't believe the different readings we ended up with. Murph
  13. Kind of on the run here but I did purchase an external antenna for my GPSmap60CS and it has suction cups for the inside of the windshield. It works great and I never had a problem losing satellites. This makes an easy installation and you don't have to worry about cutting holes or seals. Later today I can figure out where I got it and post it if your interested? It is the exact same one from Garmin but a lot cheaper in price. murph
  14. I got a notice that there is another update for the Garmin GPSmap60cs. While at the download page I see there is additional software. Can anyone tell what a person can do with the XLmage? I looked at the description but really don't understand what you can do with it or if it is worth loading on your GPS. murph
  15. I have my external antenna with suction cups on the windshield of my pickup and my GPS in a PDA holder on console. I leave my cell phone on the dash within 8" of my GPS external antenna and my cell phone looses reception. I turn my GPS off and I get full coverage on my cell phone!! When I turn my GPS off I even get a beep from my phone. Just kind of interesting that is all.
  16. I purchased it and love it. Was told I could put it on any of my computers. Putting it on a friends or relative I would question it as once it is installed it would be there for your friend to use as he wishes. Even if you un-install it alls he has to do is re-install it and the license agreement would be there? At least is was for me when I un-installed it once. When installing on a friends computer you do get a 30 day trial which would work, you just can't use but only one state but you can open all of your own files for 30 days. murph
  17. It happens mostly while on the road. Open area, but yes now that you mention it, it has happened twice in the same area, but again it is open area no trees within a quarter mile.
  18. It happens most when it is plugged into my cigarette adapter and with my external antenna. When I lose it I will set my GPS up on the dash to make sure that it is not the external antenna and still don't get reception. I have to shut it off and then back on again. Even when it comes back on it takes for ever to get more than two satellites. So I don't know if the saver mode would have anything to do with it? murph
  19. My 60CS is a couple of months old now and it seems like everytime I turn around I am losing the satellites. For the most part I have to shut down and restart to find them and even then it takes forever. This happens even when I have the external antenna on it. I am sure if I do some searching I could find other posts but I will take the easier route and start a new post. murph
  20. My sister in law has decided that she would like to start geo-caching. She is an advid bird watcher and the two would go together. I started out with an E-trex Vista but it is a bit more than what she wants to spend. I am thinking of the E-trex Yellow but I personally never liked that unit plus the antenna. What has most people recomended that could hook up to a computer to load the waypoints and would be fairly accurate. murph

    First Cache

Some place on GC.com you could find the cordinates to the very first ever cache. Can some one tell which cache was the very first one. I also believe the page told of it's history and how geo-caching got started. murph
  22. I just wished I could upload the tracks from my Vista. I thought I was getting a "more machine" when I upgraded. Guess not. I had to simplify them but going from over 1600 points to 500 pretty much makes them look slim murph
  23. I am also somewhat frustrated with that. I had a Vista and now I can't upload the ones from my Vista to the 60CS without getting a message that the track has been truncated. So I only get half of the track. I did take ExpertGps and had them simplified but when you put them on the aerial photo they look, well half there. I thought when I bought my 60CS I had everything my Vista had and more. But I guess I was wrong. murph
  24. Gee and here I thought I was just goofy. It doesn't work for me either. But I know Dan will fix it as he usually does. murph
  25. Since I have updated my cs to the newest firmware I have noticed mine doing that also. I turned the compass off/on and changed bearing pointer to course pointer and it did not help. So I am concerned. Also today with some cloud cover I keep losing satellite reception. The loss of reception even happens when I have my external antenna attached and driving down the road with no tree cover. So I ma somewhat frustrated at this point and may even load the previous firmware back on. If anybody has any other suggestions it would be appreciated. murph
