  1. Sounds like you need to load an older version of the firmware and then reload the new one again. I read that this will reset some things that dont get reset normally. I've never experienced your problem but I have had a few weird things happen when I switced to version 2.2. Maybe I'll take my own advice and see if my problems go away.. good luck
  2. Probably, but not that I've seen here. Everyone here seems to use a garmin or a magellan. I had an airmap100, but even lowrance doesn't seem to be pushing the GPS market. Too bad too since I really liked my airmap and thought its feature set was well thought out. Wish my GPS V had some of those features....
  3. OK JaDan150...lets hear about it???? Beta 2.9??? Really. Its not posted yet on the Garmin page is it? Todd Snyder
  4. Whats really fun is to have an Aircraft GPS (like a lowrance airmap 100). You then know why your probably heading north when your destination is southwest. In my case we were heading towards an "intersection" and my track clearly showed us turn to a new heading at the intersection. The GPS shows navigational intersections and warns you when you are entering/approaching different airspaces. Once they parked us out in the middle of nowwhere, continually making flying in a circle. Guess they were giving more time to clear out congestion where we were going.
  5. I just noticed that a week ago myself. I'm thinking about going back to the 2.12beta. 2.2 doesn't switch back automatically to NOT lock onto the roads when you do an offroad navigation (like 2.12b did). Also, Seems like it takes more pushes of the on button to get my backlight light up to its highest brightness now. Todd Snyder
  6. Mines doing it too...after installation of 2.20 it now likes to stay locked on roads even after an offroad route is entered. Also, seems like it takes even more "on button press's" ot get up to high brightness after a turn on? I might go back to the beta 2.12. Todd
  7. When I was looking (about a month ago) It was between the Platinum and the GPS V. I went with the autorouteing. If that hadn't been a criteria I would have probably bought the platinum. A friend has one and its feature set is really good and with the topo maps (with street names) it would have been great. I love my GPS V though and it does what no other gps does for the price (and my needs).
  8. Here's the changes from the BETA to the release verions: Changes Made From Versions 2.12 beta to 2.20: 1. Improved auto-route calculation process when transiting from poor to good satellite reception. 2. Reset map zoom levels to correct a problem that was preventing areas like parks and lakes from being displayed on the map. 3. Corrected auto zoom behavior while navigating a TracBack route.
  9. If lowrance would have had an autorouter (like the garmin V) I would have probably bought one. I love my Airmap 100 (similar to the globalmap 100). Its a little dated design (higher power consumption and a little bulky) but you cant beat the feature set. They things are pretty bullitproof but my lithium 10yr battery died after only 2 years and they wouldn't make good on it because it was out of warranty. It wasn't much of a problem except if you took the batteries out for mor than 15 minutes you would loose all your user waypoint, tracks and the the GPS would have to reinitialize (like when it first turned on).
  10. Can you point me to that software to allow street name changes and such. City select has the town of freedom indianan renamed to braysville when you zoom in. It would be great to be able modify the firmware code to add your own features. I'll bet it would be a simple matter (for garmin) to not populate (on download) the POI list and free up memory in the V. The V is still my gps of choice but its all a compramise. Hey, garmin wants us to buy differnt gps's for different uses. One for the car, one for the airplane, one for the field, one for the water. Its not in their best interest to put all the features into just one Gps unless its price is two or three times normal. Todd Snyder
  11. Even if they do it will be in a future version of city select. Unless they provide a patch on their site for free..they might make us buy a new CD. After using my airmap 100 (lowrance) compaired to the gps V. As far as detail and (more railroads, streams, other significant Land items). The lowrance had my gps V beat hands down. Of course the lowrance was for flying and so those types of land features are more important for that.
  12. I vote for that...Loose the points of interest info to free up more room for road maps. To be fair, the POI info is what my boss likes best about a GPS. He travels all the time and loved it when his friends etrex brought him right up to the Red Lobster he was looking for. Todd
  13. I couldn't agree more. There is just no substitute for an aircraft GPS. Now that I own my GPS V I've found that out. Having airspace warnings and runways listed on-screen and frequencies is just too helpful. Even though, all that should have been looked up prior to takeoff.
  14. I didnt' know I could turn off POI's I'll have to run through my menues again.. Todd
  15. Ahhhh, its all coming together now. You think my GPS V will take an external input from some sort of compass to give this extra functionality. Your 76S does some of that you say??
  16. Yep, I'm not trying to be difficult..just to understand the nomenclature. Seems like a couple of the items are identical on my gps V "course to steer" and ahh, I cant remember the other one..but they both read the same no matter what... I really dont know the purpose of "to course" either...seems like that would always be the heading you would take for the shortest distance back to your course line? I suppose thats worth something but when you reach your course you better make a "90" pretty quick or TO COURSE will instantly have you doing a U turn..LOL Yes, I think most of the GPS's for airplanes (The TSO'ed ones approved for flight navigation ) have interfaces to the directional gyro so they can know the way the airplane is pointed. On my airmap 100 I could put that in manually and then it would tell me wind speed and wind direction. Pretty Kool.
  17. Thats what my lowrance airmap does...you can set the scale for the CDI and this sets what it means when the cdi needle if full scale to the side. That can be anywhere from feet to miles depending on the scale setting. For flying it might be nice to have it set on a mile or so, for boating maybe better to be 200 feet or so...
  18. Well, I've run across this in a airplane. If the GPS knew the direction you were pointed (it cant know that, it only knows the direction you are going). Some aircraft gps's do know your "heading" that is the direction you are pointed (not the direction you are going). Then they can compute wind direction and speed (sweet!!!) If thats true then how can the gps know anything but the direction from where you are NOW to where you are going...seems like that would be the "course to steer". What else could it be?
  19. So course to steer is just your bearing from your current position to your final destination? Not your Course which is your bearing from your original position to your final destination???
  20. I didn't notice much of a difference with WAAS on or off on mine. I did notice that unless mine was set to Highes quality route it sometimes took me on a MUCH WORSE route (like 25 minutes longer to get home). I'll have to play with turning down the resolution to see if that speeds things up..I've never had mine take any more than a minute or two to recalculate..I assume that would be dependent on what/how many roads it had to take into account (large city=more route choices to check=long wait time). Todd
  21. Thats so funny!! I couldn't figure out the time stamps on that thread...I didn't notice the thread was exactly 1 year old. If it had been a day off or something I might have noticed the year being different. Anyway, Thanks for the heads up and I had already posted in the garage sale forum. I just saw that thread and thought I would take the opportunity to pitch my sale again. Todd
  22. I would just like to mention that having an avionics style GPS while flying to me is invaluable as it will warn you when you are about to enter restricted or controlled airspaces. If I were still flying I would definitly spring for at least the airmap 100 if not the newer garmin 196 (but its $1000 bucks). YOu can get a new airmap 100 for $430 then for another 100 you can buy the landdata CD which gives you all local roads everywhere in the US. Its like another $115. Todd
  23. I've got my lowrance airmap 100 for sale on ebay. Its got an up to date jeppesen database, landmap software and a carmount (all extra items from a new one). Also, the unit has just been returned from Lowrance with a 6 mo warranty and it looks to me like they gave me a brand new one (no scratches or imperfections of any kind). Here's the link if your interested. http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=3019326860&category=4668
  24. I'm selling my airmap with all accessories. The unit is either new or refurbished (see below) Heres the link to my ebay auction: Lowrance repair service is GREAT. I sent in my airmap for a repair ($75 flat rate). They sent back what appears to be a NEW unit with a NEW Jeppesen database (a $75 value). In effect the repair was free just for the price of a new database. 25. Garmin says that the braysville thing is a mistake on the map. And they also said that my airport (a pretty big one) is not included on the city select map but is on the basemap. Oh well, I bought this gps for driving not flying...guess I'll have to put in my own waypoints for the airports I'm interested in. By the way. Lowrance repair service is GREAT. I sent in my airmap for a repair ($75 flat rate). They sent back what appears to be a NEW unit with a NEW Jeppesen database (a $75 value).
