  1. Well, I'll try that next time. I'm used to just putting in the destination and having it calculate....and if it takes me the wrong way I would just go in and add a via (with my gps V). I've never had much luck creating a route in mapsource and then actually using it in my gps due to maps being missing and such. BTW, my 60csx is way way better than my gps V including many features that were not available in the gps V like auto NORT UP at certain zoom levels. Very happy with my upgrade. I did find that the window in my hotel over the weekend completley blocked satelite reception...must be some special coating on the glass??? I'm not certain this is the only way to do it, but what I did was create a couple of waypoints along the route. Then I got a route where I wanted it. The other way is to use Mapsource, routing tool and click the vias as you build the route. That will send "invisible" waypoints to the GPS so it builds the route with the via's you desire.
  2. On a different note. I took a trip from indiana to Oklahoma and missed a tiny corner (that included effingham, IL). No matter what I did I could not get my 60csx to route me on interstate 70 across the missing map (even though the basemap includes I70). Seems sucky and I know when I was forced to eliminate maps in my gps V the routing took me across basemap roads (however, not always as expected). Anyone else see this type of behavior?
  3. Thanks, I ordered one for 67 delivered. How long did it take to get here from the UK? Lookslike it comes with an adapter...so that is the way to put maps on the card to save time. Glad Im' not still using serial port any more LOL Where'd ya get it??? Ebay FastMemoryMan, he has it for about $60.00 shipped
  4. I could add a via to a route on my garmin V but I cant seem to find that option on my new 60csx. Anyone know where it went of if its even on this unit???
  5. Well, I dont mind waiting for a few weeks...I think 51 bucks for a 1 gig is a pretty good deal. I only wish there were 2 gig cards out soon instead. Also, www.dealram.com has listing of who has the cheapest cards. I've always had a good experience with newegg.com, and they are usually on the tops of the lists for the cheapest price. Also, I talked to a salesman at outpost a couple of weeks ago and asked about the 1gb cards. He said they would not be available until mid April, and were only listed as advertisement.
  6. frys www.outpost.com has 1 gig microsd cards for 55 bucks. I just ordered one..I hope it will work with my 60csx???
  7. Well, I just ordered a 1gig transflash (mircroSD) card for my 60csx for like 60 bucks from outpost.com. I've only seen people use up to 512 meg cards so now I'm worried that I'll get a card that wont work with my unit. does anyone know if there is a max size that the 60csx will work with?
  8. So, my gps V used to route HOME when I hit find twice...very nice shortcut. I dont see my new 60csx doing this. Does anyone know if it has a key combo for this??
  9. I have a gps V and getting a lock while moving always adds to the time it takes to lock on. It also has very much to do with the orientation of the satallites and what side of the plane your sitting on. Also, I believe, that terrestrial interference is the cause of slow or no lock some times. Lots of things can impact your lock experience. On the other hand, I just got my new 60csx and that thing keeps lock even inside my closed steel pole barn (with two small windows). It crazy sensative and I cant belive it..way better than my gps V. Do you start the reception while already moving or have you acquired signal before the plane gets going? When in commercial aircraft I do so after we've reached an altitude of over 10 kft and personal electronic devices are again allowed to be turned on.
  10. So, can someone explain to me why we need a POI editor when we already have the mapsource program? Also, whats the deal with the marine POI's? Where are they when we get the new 60csx, what makes them go away, when we reinstall them to they make your other maps go away (it appread to me that it did). I remember a big list of maps on my old GPS V that would show all the maps I had loaded from city select. On my new 60csx I only see one thing listed on the map list and when I ran the marine POI installer thats all I saw listed on the list and so I thought my city select maps were gone (and I think they were cause no amount of zooming brought in the minor roads after I installed the marined POI's). Any help appreciated..
  11. Yep, it worked. I was able to unlock my copy of city select to my second gps so now it works for both. The sad part is that if I ever upgrade again I'll be forced into getting a new full version (not upgrade) of city select since this one is now dedicated to these two gps's The City navigator I have (v4 I think) on cd came with a Street Pilot III and I have it installed on my 76cs. I don't know if that will help but...
  12. So, if I load city select maps into my 60csx then I loose the marine POI's and if I reload the marine POI's then the city select maps go away...???? Thanks No, the basemap of highways and cities will always still be there. Many Garmins come with a set of marine POIs (bouys, lights, markers at harbors, etc.) preloaded in the map memory and that would be erased by using SendMap or img2gps. But you can download a copy from Garmin's website to restore it later if you ever want it. thx guys for the great answers, Lake Tahoe here i come
  13. Ouch, why why why didn't I look there first...would have saved 30 bucks!!! DARN!!!
  14. I had a lowrance airmap 100 and it was great. The mapping was more detailed than my gps V as far as streams and land features. However, the 10yr lilthium battery inside the unit went bad and so when it was turned off it lost its configuration. This happened after one year. Lowrance said too bad so sad cause it was out of warranty. Due to this I'm a Garmin guy today...my new 60csx is waiting for me at home (so says the UPS tracker).
  15. UPS reports that my new 60csx is delivered...Tonight I will attempt to load city select to it (previously loaded on a GPSV). I'll let you all know if it goes smoothly. I bought garmin planning on using my second allowed installation on this gps...hope it works... The City navigator I have (v4 I think) on cd came with a Street Pilot III and I have it installed on my 76cs. I don't know if that will help but...
  16. dadgum you guys..For my 60csx I just paid 445 (shipped)...so you should all feel good you got a great deal... I got mine on ebay...I didn't see any going for less than about 425 (shipped). I paid 45 bucks for a suction cup ram mount and I got some round connectors so I can build my own power cable (from www.pfranc.com). You pay what you want for these..or you can swap hardware?? not sure how this works but I'm getting two connectors for 10 bucks. Thats not what I would call a deal. It is stupidity or error on the part of the shipper. But congrats. You got a better unit then what you bargained for.
  17. SO, with enroute you dont need a serial connectin...just the one usb connection??? that will even power the gps..correct? So then, on top of getting the City Select maps, I would have to buy a cable and Enroute? nRoute is a free download from Garmin's web page. Cable is your normal USB connection cable. ImpalaBob
  18. So....If I sell my old GPS V can I also provide my city select software (since it will be linked forever to that gps)? I just picked up a 60csx and plan to use my cityselect on this as my second gps. Yes and yes. Your City Navigator Software liscences you to load the software on 2 units--It uses two separate unlock codes, but you do not have to purchase additional ones.
  19. Thanks, tempting but with the rebates and all..I think I'll hold out a while longer. I really want a 2gig transflash. Wonder when we can expect those?
  20. when I was flying I had an airmap 100 lowrance...I wonder how much those go for on ebay these days? I was always just a student and I didnt' always use the gps but when I knew I would be flying into a restricted/controlled space it was nice to know exactly where it started. When using it on the road it was funny to have it pop up and tell me I was so many miles/minutes from an upcoming airspace..LOL Yeah, but you pay through the nose to get all of that functionality I'm not trying to substitute good flight planning and situational awareness - just trying to supplement it in a cost-efficient way that doesn't take too much work. This at least gives you directional and DME information from various major navaids and airports. Heck - that's an improvement when navigating to plain ol' VORs and most NDBs! And if you're flying in a C152 chances are you have no DME information at all.
  21. Will the 60csx work with a 2gig card? I have one in the mail and it looks like you need about 1.5gig for the whole mapset (cityselect V6.0).
  22. even if you could get all the navaids and airports as POI's or as waypoints I think you would be missing out on some of the best functionality of an aviation unit which is warning you when you are getting close to restirced air space. (Or can the new POI funtionality do this?) Todd
  23. I'm looking at thesse two (60csx vx 76csx) and am looking for the subtle differences also... the base map, and pressure plotting (lost in the switch from 60cs to 60csx). I wonder if it was lost also in the 76csx? Battery life? I would like to see a comparison of the 76csx to the 60csx like patrick roeder did. Todd
  24. The Ifinder is a great unit. Do a search for ifinder on here and youll find more info. Here's one such thread. Ifinder thread
  25. Go to their web site and read their policies and terms of sale. Most (including Dell and gateway and all the big ones) specifically say they are not responsible for priceing errors and wont honor them. They "might" honor the price just to maintain good will and appearances but I think your wasting time trying to sue. Dell sold me a Axim pocket PC for $79 that was supposed to be $379. Two days after the sale I got a nice email explaining their mistake and informing me that the sale was cancelled.....The forum on Dells web site were all a flutter with complaints and threats to sue......bottom line is no one got their $79 axim. On the other hand, Martha stewart online sold me something for $25 that was supposed to be $150. I bought two of them and she fulfilled my order (after I complained a bit to her sales staff). Other folks I know bought up to ten of these and they got them as well. Dont waste a lot of time fretting over not getting it, better put your energies to better use christmas shopping.... Sorry, but these are my experiences.
