  1. Yup, We have lost quite a few caches the last two years here in Santa Barbara. The Gap Fire, the Tea Fire, and the Jesusita Fire have burned a majority of the "front country" here, including hundreds of homes. Depending on how hot the fire went through, some caches survive, some are toasted, and some are literally vaporized. I own an adopted one at the top of mountains that half melted: Log with Pix Another Old local one "Tucker's Trove" got *really* hot, and the 50 cal ammo can blew open See pix in this log. As it turns out, I have adopted this one too! Amazingly, the log BOOK contents are 90% intact (but very fragile), and I am scanning them in and will print out & make a new logbook including them. Note the emphasis on BOOK. Not many "TFTC"s in this one! Well worth saving and sharing.
  2. Did it... Easy enough with a little thinking. You can do it! The hint given should point you to the key to this puzzle. I will give out Some Generic Puzzle Advice: When looking at puzzles, always ask yourself: --"Is there something unusual on the page (or linked, or in the source code etc)?" --"How can I relate that thing that to numbers?" -- and for your area: "Do I see a 32 and a 96 in these numbers" Good Luck!
  3. Oh- Hi Droo! Wow. I'll chime in. I like #1 too. But #3 and#5 (the coppers) are my favorites for this design. Nice Job!
  4. OK, I like this thread so much I guess I can contribute once in a while. Sorry, nothing good & evil though... I swear, there should be some clearing house for "anonymyzing" submissions to this thread. I'd submit more, for sure... So here is one I slapped together. I'm most proud of the fact that it replaced an LPS... A fun quick grab if you are paying attention. Enjoy
  5. It's actually pretty easy First: From the Trackables page, Grab it (or retrieve it) from wherever it is listed. It should now be shown in your "inventory". Second. Post another log (a note, not another found it) on the cache where you picked it up, and select the TB from your inventory (box at bottom) to "drop it off". It should now show in the cache inventory . Third. From the trackable page, retrieve it again, this time from the cache you actually got it from. It should now be in your possesion, in your inventory, and have the right mileage...
  6. I used a fence cap at the starting point of my first cache GC19NZT to hold a laminated set of instructions for the puzzle. I figured it would help those who did not bring the cache page info to try it out! I figured it would be a pretty obvious pace to look if all you had were the coordinates. It is connected with a Nd magnet so you could take it with you while doing the puzzle. Worked out pretty good, I'll say. Edit HTML doofage...
  7. Have not been able to load a page for the last 20 minutes... grrrrr

  10. Back in the early 80's the popular greeting here in southern California was "Hey bud" or just "Buuuud!" Well, after the '84 Olympics, my brother started answering with "Zola!" every time I call him "Bud!" (Zola Budd - get it? ) After a while he decided he'd instead just yell "Zola!" as a greeting - and of course I'd reply "HOLA!". He stuck it all together and has called me "Holazola!" ever since....
  11. Oh Duh - I already had it installed.. "formerly known as PICLENS" Thanks Groundspeak!!!!!
  12. Another update today on their site: "Aug 14th update The Caching Time coins are here!!! They start shipping today. " (edit: ISATI)
  13. Ha! That's what I was thinking! Nice choice of words...
  14. Well, for me it's almost 90 days since order. I see that aetoys has not posted on this forum since May 5. Weak... FYI: I just checked their site and there is an update posted today: "Aug 7th update Email from the mint states the caching time coin will ship by Monday or Tuesday. If the coins do ship at that time we will have all caching time coins shipped out by next Friday... We have staged all the Caching time orders so they can ship fast as soon as the coins arrive. We have also started shipping the items that are in stock from the Caching time, Pirate Treasure and the Dragonfly 2008. We should have all the in stock items shipped my Monday Aug 11th. We have also sent six new coins to mint that should come in over the next month or so. No pre orders will be offered on any of these or future coins. The Pirate and the Dragonfly should be here shortly after the caching time. I am sorry for the delays we are having with our geocoins. If you think it is driving you crazy it has made us completely insane. If anyone wishes a refund just let us know and we will refund promptly. With the delays we are having. The last of the Dragonfly 2008 and the Pirate treasure will not be sold until after the caching time coins have shipped."
  15. Thanks for the reply Dale. At this point I'll be patient and wait for the next rollout. I just wanted to confirm I wasn't missing some critical step! Have a great weekend. -Holazola
  16. First, Thanks for these maps! They are Awesome. Question: any feedback as to why I am unable to select and load the 3 tiles shown to my Vista HcX? (California - Santa Barbara, Ventura, and LA counties roughly) All the adjacent tiles in pink load fine & I can switch between maps on the GPSr OK. Do you think corruption happened? Should I re-DL the 1.0GB 1.4 exe file and retry? Any feedback appreciated. Thanks, Holazola (edit: smaller pic)
  17. Nav & Paperless info on the Nuvi 360, Etrex Vista HCx for the hunt....
  18. I have a Vista HCx. Just called support an they said they only have rubber band kits for the Black & white models & that I would need to send mine in for service (10 months old). Was I fed a 'story' or is this true? Has anyone else had this situation recently? There has to be a TON of you out there with loose sticky surrounds... Am I stuck doing a DIY with the old band if I'm not willing to give up my GPSr for a few weeks??
  19. Did anyone else notice that in the time that the finer points of NM & SBA logs have been debated here - That someone went out and actually FOUND the cache referenced on the OP's post. An FTF after six years! GOOD JOB! A Superior Cache!
  20. I found THREE in the previous post!
