  1. I'm having trouble with the "map it" page.

We don't do paperless, especially since we do a bit of spontaneous caching, so I do it by areas and check the "map it" feature and then print off the page as a coversheet and the cache pages with the information go after it and it all goes into a little "booklet" that is in our caching bag.

Map it pages are having the right side of the map cut off when they print and I can't for the life of me figure out why. I already print them landscape, but it doesn't help matters.

We really like doing it this way because it gives us an idea of where the caches are when we're out and looking or just out doing something else and want to see if something is in the area we are in.

  2. You reap what you sow, Glen...

Think about it that way, you must be pretty incredible yourself!

I wasn't involved in the original endeavor, but I did want to send prayers and well wishes your way.

Remember, we're never given more than we can handle, even if it seems like we're always stuck in the honors course of life!

    Hang in there!

  3. I'm fortunate enough to live in a country with a history that goes back well over a thousand years.

I've searched for caches at ancient viking burial mounds and other places that are 250+ years old, and done some translations for others that I haven't been to that date back to iron age times.

It's major cool to be able to go walk around these places and feel the spirit that is there, to use your imagination to think of what it was like, to realize that 1000+ years back people were there, living, laughing, loving and dying...

As for now, though, I'd leave a cache at one of the major cathedrals here in Sweden.... Either that or a Nokia phone store <_< given the addiction Swedes have to their cell phones lol!

  4. A "folk" cure is clear nail polish... Of course, I don't recall seeing Flying J or Petro stocking nail polish last time I was there with my ex-husband the trucker, so you may be hard pressed to find it if you're on the road, hehehe...

You put a dab over each bite and it seals it off from the air, which stops it itching.

I don't know if it works or not, I haven't been bit by chiggers since I was a kid berry picking, and that is a good 30 years ago or so!

  5. While searching for a cache that was said to be hidden under stones and a root we found a black bag that was under stones and a root...

We tried to see what it was to make sure it wasn't the cache, but it smelled of death, then our GPS gave out on us and we went home.

2 days later we went back, had to know if the cops needed calling or not. Found the cache first (hey, priorities!) and then went back to check the bag. Mr Mousekakat retrieved it while the 7.5 year old stayed back with the dog, and I took a stick and poked through it (holding my breath the whole time) and finally found animal teeth to either a small cat or dog and I took off running so I could breathe. Mr M put the whole thing back, piled stones on top of it, and then promptly tossed his cookies.

At least we slept that night with a clear conscience that it wasn't something worse that we'd have to call the cops about!

  6. We cache with a Tom Tom ONE that is predominantly a car GPS'r, but it has a good zoom capability, we're able to put in the coords without trouble, can save POI (points of interest, etc.)

We got our unit initially because I'm an American in Sweden and I have trouble at times finding my way to places, and even though I'm fairly fluent, it is still hard to ask for directions at times and this made it much easierto find my way around.

Geocaching was just the icing on the cake for us!

Perhaps you can talk her into a unit that is more universal that she can also use to find places when she's out as a bonus?

Ours is like our dishwasher, we can live without it, but we sure don't want to any longer now that we have one <_<

Oh, and we cache with a 14 month old riding on pappa's back in a carrier and a 7.5 year old eager to find the goodies... and more often than not, our dog pulling my fat, old butt up the mountains

    And we all love it!

  7. G. O'Coin B.U.G,

    G. O'Coin B.U.G,

    Who can you be?

Is there a chance of a

    pretty coin for me?

    My bank account's broke,

    Yep, I'm flat busted,

But I think that with you,

    my address can be trusted!

So, if you feel the need

to spread your wings and take flight,

    In Sweden you're welcome

to stay for more than a night!

  8. This is a really special place.

I love how people stand up to help each other out at times of need!

Financially I'm strapped, so I can't send anything or buy anything, but I can send prayers and good vibes!

From our geodog Key aka Hou(n)dini the wonder escape Husky to yours, prayers, good will vibes and a virtual rawhide bone going your way!

  9. I just got this again:

PHP Fatal error: Maximum execution time of 45 seconds exceeded in E:\Inetpub\forums\GC\ips_kernel\class_db_mysql.php on line 457 PHP Fatal error: Maximum execution time of 45 seconds exceeded in E:\Inetpub\forums\GC\sources\ipsclass.php on line 1111

I have also been getting the "Too many connections" error . . . :anitongue:

getting both of these a lot, especially when I'm trying to make a post.

I'm ending up with duplicate posts a lot

  10. Speaking of giving coins away, I do remember when that happended often :D:lol::anitongue: .

I don't have any of my own geocoins yet. I've preordered my first, but I don't know how long that will take.

I saw a beautiful coin here that I just fell in love with a few days ago and I contacted the owner. At first they wanted to trade for one, but then I told them I just didn't have :o anything to trade, honestly, but that I really loved the coin and offered to buy one.

The person is mailing me one out of the kindness of their heart. It really made me feel good! It was such a generous and nice gesture.

I was really touched and I can't wait to get it in the mail. It will be a very special, treasured piece for me!

So... I guess what I'm saying is that there are still people out there who are doing coins for the coin thing and not the profit or fame thing, and for that I'm grateful!

Hopefully I'll be slowly adding coins and building up so that I can start participating in trades, but I am unemployed and we live a family of 4 on Mr Mousekakat's less than stellar (but adequate, somehow) pay and a lot of faith every month. I will work my way up, though, and I'll do it with respect to the coins and the sport and try to pass on the same kindness that was given to me

  11. i think this sort of thing is geocaching's big hurdle. In this society right now,

I imagine that with the newb placements the bomb squad stories are going to rise from 1 every 2 weeks to 1 every week and worse. I think this sort of thing needs to be looked at for the goodness of the sport ya know? I have yet to place one so i'm not sure how it works but it seems that maybe reviewers should take account what businesses are surrounding the cache and if the cache necessitates notification through law enforcement, etc.

Good point, at least in the US and maybe Canada or Great Britain.

I don't think that it's as big a problem in other parts of the world, to be honest.

But with the current "climate" in the US, it's definitely wise to think seriously about where you're placing your cache.

I think that in a majority of places in Europe that a cache like t hat likely wouldn't rate much more than a glance. If it did, I don't think that it would be blown up immediately, rather, it would be investigated first.

I hate that fear and paranoia have taken over my home country.

  12. Could someone from Germany actually have been travelling in the US and picked it up from a cache there and took it back to Germany?

edited to add... better late than never...

I looked at the log. My apologies for wondering if it could have travelled legitimately. I guess I always try to see the good and want to trust, and in this case, I was wrong!

  13. It does vary....Fortunately, the resolution around here is excellent. I could identify the correct line painted in the carpark beside the cache. Other parts of Oz are just a blur from any height...

That is the prob for me here in Sweden, the resolution where we are in northern Sweden is just shyte. It's all fuzzy and I can only get a vague idea on things :anitongue:

  14. Just wondering, to a certain degree, aren't muggles kind of necessary to the game at times? I mean.... sure, a lot of people hear about Geocaching via word of mouth from other cachers or a news article, but isn't seeing it in action the best method to getting it out?

Don't get me wrong, I don't go out screaming "look what I'm doing!" but by the same token, if someone does happen to be out where I'm caching, usually at the top of a mountain or on a trail, I inform them of the sport and what it's about.

I just think that it's a good thing to educate others on this wonderful sport and let them see it in person than let them pick it up alone and make a total screw up of it...

Maybe that's how some of those folks who put out the lame lampskirt micro's got into it....

    Just a thought!
