  1. stunt0979, I will let you know if this gets solved. Please do the same, if you find out any info.
  2. Sorry I fell off the grid for awhile...that's really weird that there were issues with my geocaching name. When signing up, I tried to just have MamaBear but alas, it was already taken, so I used the symbols of "less than" and "3" because, when typing those two symbols together, it represents a heart <3. ❤️ Now that I see it can cause lots of confusion, I'll see if I can come up with a variation of the name that won't be an issue for some users.
  3. I accidentally logged a find on the wrong cache, using the app. Couldn't find a place to delete the log, so I went online and deleted it. The smiley still appears on the map, even though the log was deleted. So, I thought I'd try to log a note as a draft to see if I could get the smiley to change. Sure enough, but now it has changed to a blue exclamation point (I did not log the note, just saved it as a draft). Okay, now, let's go back to the website to see if I can bring up the draft note and delete that to see what happens....no saved note to be found. So, I went back to the app and looked all around...I have no log or note posted, but now, I have to look at that blue exclamation point. Don't know why it's not refreshing...I waited 24 hours and still no luck. All info appears to be correct on the website but not the app. What am I doing wrong or is this just a glitch in the app?
  4. Thanks everyone! Since I'm still relatively new to the game, I do like to have "My Finds" listed. My Oregon 650 does show them as a treasure chest instead of the typical cache icon. I just needed to remember how to unzip a file. It's not something I've done very often. I think I made it more complicated than it actually was.
  5. I've been away from geocaching way too long and decided it's time to get back down to business. Apparently, in that away time, I've completely forgotten everything about downloading PQs. With my 650T, connected to my computer, I did click and drag a PQ file into the 650T's GPX file and everything worked just as it should. When I tried to do the same with the "My Finds" file, it didn't work. The "My Finds file is a zip file. I know very little about zip files. Is what I'd like to do possible? The reason I'd like to download my finds is that since I've been away so long, I don't want to accidentally revisit previous finds. If there is a way to load all of "My Finds" (including unzipping a file), please explain in as much detail as possible because I'm not as tech savvy as I should be. Thanks!
  6. You're absolutely right. After reading many posts on this forum,i think over just got to release another trackable and then forget about it.
  7. That's excellent! Thanks Pup Patrol. I didn't know the app has that feature. Normally, when i silver a mystery, I enter the coordinates in my GPSr. What a great find!
  8. Instead of "coordinates", think "waypoints". You should always check the Help Center first. http://support.Groundspeak.com/index.php Help Center → Apps → iPhone Geocaching® app 1.5. How Do I Add a Waypoint? http://support.Groundspeak.com/index.php?pg=kb.page&id=721 For puzzle caches, do you enter the corrected coordinates on the cache page? Do you mean "search by name" on the app? If you want to search for a cache by its name, use the old search function: https://www.geocaching.com/seek/ B. Thanks Pup Patrol! Duh! Now I feel dumb!
  9. I agree completely. I'm definitely going to put a lot more thought into where I place my next trackable. I may specify that it's mission is only to travel to premium caches. Hopefully, if anyone reads the mission and follows it, that it may have a better chance...or not...
  10. Thanks everyone for sharing your personal experiences with trackables. I'll be patient and attempt to send a few more out into the wild. Then, I'll just put all of them out of my mind and see what happens. Happy Caching!
  11. I tried to search for an answer before I posted and couldn't seem to find any answers, so here I go. I am a Premium member and have the free app for iPhone. I have four search options available to me. I am able to search by Location, Geocahe, Trackable, and GeoTour. If I solve a mystery, how can I enter the GPS coordinates? Or do I need to download a separate GPS app to be able to do that? Also, it would be helpful if I could search for a geocache by name too. Any thoughts?
  12. You may have to go to each page anyway. Geocachers seem to have lots of problems making an accurate Trackable log when they take one. But the cache logs will have vague mentions of "no TBs here" when the Inventory shows there were some. You can see caches that have Trackables listed in them, by using the "old search": https://www.geocaching.com/seek/ Also see this: http://forums.Groundspeak.com/GC/index.php?showtopic=340723&view=findpost&p=5602147 Thanks kunarion! That's right! I completely forgot that the old search showed if trackables might be in the cache. Thanks for the hint about adding "Have Travel Bugs" as an attribute when setting up pocket queries. You've really helped me out immensely! Thanks so much for taking the time to reply to my post.
  13. I am a premium member, so hopefully, if this is possible, I should be able to access the information. Now, onto my question. Is there a way to search for caches with trackables currently in their inventory? Anytime I try to search I am asked for the trackable code. That doesn't help me. Unless I look at each cache and see if it has any trackables in its inventory, I have no idea where any are. Thanks!
  14. Well, so much for another trackable....I've been geocaching for a while now. I just, finally, hit 100 caches! So, I thought, "okay, now I'm ready to get my own trackable and send it out into the world". I've helped a few trackables along the way and was naive to think that all other people were like-minded. I released my first trackable, which was a "Live Free or Die" New Hampshire magnet. I dropped it in a cache that seemed to have quite a history of trackables. It was also near an airport, so I thought that would help it travel quite far. Well, needless to say, there seemed to be no activity for a while so I revisited the cache and IT WAS GONE!!! So, I checked the inventory, according to the geocache, and found that only one of the 5 trackables listed was still in the cache. It appears as though someone had found that cache and raids it regularly, leaving the logbook and the geocache intact, so as not to cause any suspicion. Okay, so I took a bit of time to grieve and when I felt completely healed, I decided to make a second attempt. This time, I placed a red heart-shaped carabiner with a travel bug tag attached. I also attached an index card with a bit more info about the trackable, including the fact that this was my second attempt. I also stated that it was not a collectible, just to clarify it's purpose. I've been revisiting the cache, every few days, to try to keep an eye on my dear trackable. Today, another cacher posted that they were not able to find the cache and were concerned that the entire cache may have gone missing. So, I got in my car and drove to the cache. It was there! THANK GOD! But wait!!!!! When I opened the cache, my trackable was GONE!!!! OH NO!!!! NOT AGAIN!!!! I don't know if someone just raided the cache and never logged their visit or if they logged their visit and just thought the trackables were "cool" and decided to keep them or if they just haven't gotten around to logging their visit or the fact that they retrieved my trackable....oh, forever an optimist.... So, I decided to visit the Groundspeak Forum to see if anyone had any advice about trackables and lo and behold, I find this place for all of us to share our pain and grief! After reading a lot of posts and taking it all in, I've come to the conclusion that my next trackable is going to be a ziploc bag full of dryer lint!!!! Or some other distinctively uncollectible item!!! Am I bitter? YES I AM! Okay....now I feel much better....thanks for allowing me to rant!!!! I'll try to remain optimistic that someday, one of them may come out of the woodwork and resurface. (Neither one of my trackables even logged one single inch in travel! How sad is that!)
  15. Getting spoiler pics onto your device is a very slow and tedious process, but it can be done. I actually find it easier to use my smart phone when I want to view images, but that only works if I have cell reception The manual method of installing geocache photos to your GPSr is listed under Geocaching With Photos. There are automated ways of doing this, but they require additional software and a lot of time to master. Thanks again for the additional link, Atlas Cache. It appears as though life would be a lot easier if opencaching.com was still an option. I think I'll take your suggestion and continue to use my cell phone for pics. Manually loading them does seem much too tedious for what it's worth. Mama<3Bear
  16. I knew that the buttons were customizable but until I just revisited the location to configure keys, I didn't realize that there was a page loop option. Thanks again for all of your input.
  17. My regular geocaching profile (for foot use) is set up with the geocaching dashboard on the map at all times. The user button is set for a single tap to start/stop tracking, double tap takes me to the log geocache page, and long press takes me to the waypoint averaging page (for placing a cache). The map is non-routing and topographic and routing method is direct. My geocaching while driving is set up with a routable map and the geocaching dashboard when not actively routing and the nuvi dashboard when actively routing to a cache. It's set for the screen not to turn off or the backlight to time-out so I can constantly follow the map when I need to. I've set up the user button to switch to the regular geocaching profile on a single tap, which will change the map and convert the routing to direct. I can then switch back to the geocaching driving profile after I've logged my cache. Hi mineral2, I just updated my 650 online (updated profiles from the wiki link you gave me). Some of the behaviors of the user key seem to have changed. The presets for the user key in the geocaching profiles are as follows. If I have not selected a geocache and am on the home screen, when I tap the user button, it takes me to the map with the geocache dashboard. When I tap it a second time, it takes me to the compass with the geocache dashboard, when I tap it for a third time, it takes me to a list of nearby geocaches. A fourth tap returns me to the home screen. A long tap of the user key brings me to my list of geocaches. If I have selected a geocache, the first screen to come up after selecting a geocache is the map with the geocache dashboard. A tap takes me to the compass with the geocache dashboard, the second tap brings me to the description/logs/hints/chirp/log screen. A third tap brings me back to the home screen. Continuing to tap the user button in either of these situations scrolls through the screens I mentioned. A long tap of the user key brings me to the log screen. Maybe my 650 had the ability to have these many options for the user key before, but I thought I only had one short tap and one long tap for the user key and power key.
  18. Hi again mineral2, Do you have any idea if when viewing the geocache description on a 650 if you are able to view photos that have been posted to the geocache? The wiki link that Atlas Cache posted shows that you should be able to do that. I haven't been able to view any photos posted to a cache. Thanks! Mama<3Bear
  19. Thank you Atlas Cached! This is exactly the information I was looking for. Direct routing is what I've been using. I'll set up my compass screen with one large data field enabled (distance to destinaton). I have not visited Oregon 6xxwiki yet but will as soon as I hit "reply" Thanks again! Mama<3Bear Atlas Cached, I just visited the wikispaces page you suggested. What a great amount of information! I did have a question though...It showed that I should be able to view spoiler pics on my 650. Oregon 6xx wiki Is there something specific setting I should set my 650 at to be able to view these photos or is it outdated information? I looked up a geocache online to be sure that it did display photos and then viewed that geocache on my 650...no luck. If I was able to do that, that would be great! Let me know if you are able to view photos. Thanks!
  20. Mama<3Bear
  21. Thanks mineral2! This is what I'm doing. I am using pocket queries and do find them extremely helpful. Also, I do have street maps installed. That addition made the GPSr so much more usable. The Profiles suggestion is an excellent one! I will do that for sure. I really only have one profile set up and do find myself bouncing around too much to make it as user friendly as I'd like. Thanks for all of your suggestions. When you're geocaching on foot, what do you have set up in your profile? What do you have set up in your profile for automotive navigation? Thanks again for your very helpful advice. Mama<3Bear
  22. I purchased an Oregon 650 a little while ago and have been geocaching with it for a few months. I'd love to hear your opinion on what you find is the best way to use it for geocaching. What I mean by that is do you prefer to enter coordinates and use the compass? Do you prefer to go to the saved geocache info and use by direct routing, pedestrian walking, hiking, mountaineering, etc? I am usually in a very rural setting when geocaching (not much city exploring) I really hate to say it but sometimes I find it more efficient to just use my android phone and the geocaching.com app to find a cache. So I am wondering if I'm just not using the Oregon to it's best ability. I'm sure some of you are thinking that I should have just purchased a more basic GPSr. I have those thoughts myself, but I own it now and just want to figure out the best way to use it. Thanks for your help! This forum is always the best place to come to for the best feedback.
  23. No you do not have to create multiple queries. Yes, there is an easier way. On the Pocket Query page, scroll down to the bottom, and click the "Add to Queue" button under the "My Finds" heading. This will run a special query that gets ALL your finds, regardless of quantity, distance or archive status. Thanks! Lil Devil!
  24. I'm having a bit of an issue creating a complete "My Finds" query. I have caches in Europe, the Caribbean and the United States (from the east coast to the west coast). Do I need to create "My Finds 1", "My Finds 2", "My Finds 3", etc. until I have captured all of my finds and then transfer the information to the spreadsheet? Or is there any chance that there is a simpler way to have all of my finds appear in a single query? (If I recall correctly, a query cannot be greater than 1000 miles. Thanks! Mama<3Bear
