  1. I'm wondering if Vinny could use any help. Maybe just like a part-time weekend thing. My kids have two hamsters that I could donate to the effort, also 9 pygmy goats if you have a way to integrate them into your system. If this doesn't work out I'll keep my regular job...I'm a Chiropractor and I also own three Assisted Living Homes for the elderly.
  2. I think if you filter out micros, multis, etc. that should help. I haven't been to Zion since I started caching so can't recommend any caches, but if time allows you should try to hike up to the top of Angel's Landing. Also if you are up to it you should head up the Narrows even if it's only to go 20 or 30 minutes up river and turn around...you'll never forget it.
  3. I use a Vista Hcx and think it's great. I had a lower end Magellan before and there's a lot to love about the Vista, size, color screen, maps, electronic compass, ease of use (my kids can use it after a few little lessons of course). I find that I have a signal sometimes when I really don't think I should. I got mine when it first came out around $240 I think. Abuddy of mine has a 60 Cs and it's pretty sweet too, just a little big to me.
  4. Thanks, that helps. I'll keep playing with it. I can't seem to find the sync folder to paste to, but I'll keep messing around with it.
  5. I figured out how to get the PQ to run and send to my email and I've also saved it to my desktop. It opens in EasyGPS, but I can't figure out how to get it to send to my PDA through GPXsonar. What do I do next?
  6. I've decided to try going paperless. I've been using Easy GPS with my Vista HCX with no problems. I just setup gpxsonar for my Dell Axim 3x. I can't seem to figure out how to get my PQ to my PDA. When I run a PQ it gives me a little note at the top of the page that my new query can be viewed on the next page and I click on it and find the PQ. When I hit download waypoints it sends it to EasyGPS, it seems like I would want them going to gpxsonar. I don't seem to get PQs showing up in my email box at all. Am I missing something or am I just a doofus or what?
  7. I'm curious to see what kinds of cool stuff people have found in caches. Anything out of the ordinary or that made you go wow. We found a cache that had an authentic German WWII leather ammo carrying case that the cache owner's Grandpa had given him to put in the cache. We didn't take it, but thought it was pretty cool.
  8. I have looked in Yellowstone and at Timanogos Cave and only found virtuals and earth caches available as well. At Timapnogos we came across someone acting "suspicious". I chatted with them and there is apparently a lettebox there. I don't know too much about the NPS and their rules regarding caches, but here in Utah a number of state parks have started putting out their own caches.
  9. We cache with our kids and the youngest (she's 4) pretty much always wants to trade for something, she prefers sparkly, shiny, pink or purple. We have a backpack full of trade items including kids toys such as motorcylces, bobble heads, action figures, McToys, etc. Often times the kids will trade for something at one cache and then trade it again at the next cache. I have a stash of a few new Master locks and also a few pairs of Harley Davidson sunglasses that I carry just in case I come across something I just have to trade for. We have also left $5 bill (worth about 70 cents here) from Guatemala that always get grabbed by the next finder. My wife is going down there again next week and I'm going to have her bring back a handful. We just found a cache that was hidden in the hills in dense oak brush, somehow an acorn from the brush had gotten into the cache. My 4 year old just had to have the acorn (there were 400 bazillion acorns in the oak brush). So I guess acorns could make cool swag too:)
  10. I found a cache along the highway that was a plastic carrot like in a kids play kitchen. The hider made a little sleeve that it fit into in the ground and stuck out about 2".
  11. I just upgraded to a premium member on Wednesday. I am getting a google maps error that tells me to go to google maps website and set up my website for google maps. (that's not the exact wording of the error). I went to the google site and set up geocaching.com. I was thinking that it had something to do with the fact that my membership was upgraded to premium. So I checked another related thread and it appears others are having the same issue. So maybe my new membership is just coincidence. So is there something I need to do or just be patient??? Any comment would be appreciated.
  12. I asked about virtuals a week or so ago and someone suggested taking a photo of the info for the answers to the questions that way when you get home you've got em on film or card or whatever. I just thought it was a helpful thought. Have fun in Vegas.
  13. I just heard back from one of the virtual cache owners and he said he thought we were OK and left the log as a find. Still waiting to hear from the other owner. Thanks for all the replies.
  14. Thanks for all the input. After thinking about it, I suppose my quesion was...in finding a virtual, is finding the object, place, sight, etc., the object or is answering the questions the object? That question has been answered. I emailed the cache owners with what info I do have so we'll see what happens.
  15. Thanks. I didn't think to snap a photo of the text at the cache so I could reference it when I got home.
  16. Usually we skip virtual caches, although we've gone after a few. We recently went on vacation and I downloaded a bunch of caches to my GPS and didn't pay too much attention to cache type. While vacationing we found a couple of caches that appeared to be virtuals (they lead us to monuments, lighthouses, etc.) We read the stuff on the plaques but didn't make any notes since we were on vacation and mostly just messing around. So I get home and get ready to log our various finds and get to the virtuals. Do I log em found even if I don't have the requested info or not found since I don't have the info. The way I see it I found the dang lighthouse and the monument in the lava field so I logged it found. Any thoughts on proper etiquette?
  17. Sweet! Thanks that's what I was looking for.
  18. Costco has a Garmin C580 GPS available online with $100 off from Sept. 4 to 23.
  19. How do you adjust the zoom level? I found an option for autozoom on/off, but don't see where to adjust the level.
  20. When I turn declutter on the caches still stay on... it doesn't seem to change the map at all. I have topo maps installed. Any other suggestions for hiding the caches?
  21. I'm going on vacation so I downloade a bunch of caches in the area where we are going so now I've got a ton of treasure chests on my screen. I have a Garmin Vista Hcx and I think there is a declutter option or something like that, is that the option I want so that I can see the map without the caches. If that's it, how do I get the caches back when I want them?
  22. Thanks 2 for the road. It looks like you can't make reservations til 7 days ahead so I think we're going to check it out. The menu looks wonderful.
  23. Thanks! I think we may head that direction so we'll be sure to check those out. Thanks for the helpful tips too. Anyone else with a favorite spot in Maui?
  24. We are heading to Maui next week for about a week. I've done a bit of looking at things to do, but I'm wondering if there's any specific recommendations for spots to see or especially and must do geacaches. We'll be staying in Kehei and plan to take the road to Hana one day and probably some snorkeling somewhere, but we're pretty open right now. Thanks for any suggestions!
  25. I got a vista HCX and love it. I replaced a Magellan Explorist 200, that I never really had any problems with, and the vista is great. I have not downloaded any of the software updates and have not had any problems except for the WAAS deal and apparently I'm not that concerned because I haven't downloaded the fix for it yet.
