1. this may seem like a silly question, but does it matter which version of a cartridge I download with PiGo? The Wherigo site has options based on the different compatible devices, and I've downloaded cartridges for both a Colorado, and a PPC player. as far as I can tell, both seem to work. I guess what i'm really asking is this: what are the differences between cartridges for the same game, but different devices?
2. I'm pretty sure the collectible/non-collectible setting is working as expected: I was able to move my own trackables into my collection (whether they were marked "collectible" or not.) This makes sense to me. Ownership trumps collectability. This also means I don't have to remember to edit them if I decide to release one into the wild. I also have in my possession a TB that I transferred ownership of to my son's caching account. I was not able to move that one from my inventory to my collection when the collectible preference was not set. Once it was set to "yes" I was able to move it to my collection. (And when it was set to "no" again, it was immediately moved from my collection to my inventory.)
3. HI! I had a similar issue with a multi I was doing earlier this month. I did discover that you CAN input coordinates for multis in the iPhone app: When you are on the "Navigate to Geocache" map view, click the little flag icon with a plus sign that is on the left edge of the screen. This will allow you to add a waypoint. Once you have input the new coordinates, you will see the waypoint on the map. touch the waypoint icon, and off you go! I hope this helps.
4. Wow, you can see how active I am on the forums. Yes, the feed is working now.
5. My son would like to change his caching name. A couple of his ideas for a new name are already in use, however one of them has had 0 cache finds, and the last visited date is the same as the member since date, and the email address was never validated: Member Since: Monday, December 22, 2003 Last Visit: Monday, December 22, 2003 Status: Not Validated Member (Give a Gift Membership) I was wondering what Groundspeak's policy, if any, is regarding the purging of inactive accounts like this one. (and I mean truly inactive - no finds and not even having been verified)
6. I wonder if this will ever get fixed. It's probably not very high on the list of website priorities, but it would be nice for the rss to contain a valid mime type for the images.
7. MIME types are not the same as file extensions. The correct MIME type declaration for jpeg images is "image/jpeg". List of MIME types And it's not just the screen saver. Live bookmarks in Firefox doesn't recognize them as image files in the feed, although you can still click on the link and the image is displayed.
8. I wanted to use the Google Photo Screen Saver to display geocachign related images. After digging around on the site a bit, I found that there is an RSS feed for recent gallery images. (http://www.geocaching.com/datastore/rss_galleryimages.ashx) The Google Screen Saver can accept RSS feeds for input. (I also have my flickr photo stream configured.) The problem is that the screen saver does not recognize that the gallery feed has any images. I've tracked the problem down to the media type for the images in the RSS feed. if you change
to
the screen saver (and other image rss feed aware applications, I assume) is able to recognize the images for what they are.
