    Missing Finds

Try GC195A or http://www.geocaching.com/seek/cache_detai...7b-e626569fe638 It is a long since disabled cache.

    Missing Finds

Has anyone else had their finds go missing from gc.com I found the following cache back in 2001. http://www.geocaching.com/seek/cache_detai...7b-e626569fe638 I remember it very well because Sarah was a small girl and we met her and her Dad on the way out. She was coming to get the camera. Today I happen to look at this archived cache and discovered my log, and many others, has disappeared. Has anyone else seen old finds disappear??

  4. I have never asked to be put ON a ranking list. Please provide details as to how you can be REMOVED from these lists. That's simple... go back and delete all of your activity and track everything you do in an offline method. No one needs to log their finds here. I'm not saying that to be a smart-a**, there are many people that choose to not log. If you don't want people to have a method to evaluate your data then do not provide it publicly. That doesn't remove you from the list. It simply puts you at the bottom of the list. Nothing gained.

  6. Because cache-tech didn't realize BBoG and I are very good friends and took my "retirement" comments as offensive. So I just deleted them instead of trying to explain to him.
  7. Never thought of doing this but I sure like the idea. I hate unraveling a nano's log and trying to get it back in. Especially when it is cold and raining.
  8. I have only logged a find on two caches I did not actually find the container. In both cases, the containers were clearly missing. In both cases, the owner (a very well known and respected local cacher) graciously offered (unprompted from me) to allow me to log a find as the trek was difficult (8 km via canoe in one case) and there was every expectation that I would find the container if it were there. I don't agree with logging a find if you didn't find it and you don't have the owner's permission (permission, not forgiveness) to do so. Logging a find on an archived cache or disabled cache is equally unacceptable to me. However, if the cache is archived, the owner has a responsibility to remove the container. Otherwise it is littering. However, in the end, the finder has to live with his own set of values. And the owner can delete as he sees fit. On a similar vein, owners have a responsibility to maintain their caches in a timely fashion. I have seen a fair number of caches reported as Needing Maintenance and the owner ignores it for months. Even though the owner is actively caching on a regular basis.
  9. That is exactly what I want. Only in electronic format I can load into my Garmin GPS. Please send it to bloodhounds@rogers.com Thanks Dan
  10. Does anyone have a Garmin compatible track log for the Hilton Falls Side Trail? Thx.
  11. Took me as long to log 13 finds as it did to drive 80 km and find them. Insane.
  12. Just spent almost an hour trying to log 11 finds. And it is Monday. Something needs to change.
  13. If you would like to see one in action, visit GCYE6G. I have been using these guys for over a year now with no problems. They are great. I cover mine in camo tape.
  14. I have started a separate thread suggesting that only Premium Members be allowed to log finds on weekends. That would help improve things a bit for those of us who financially support gc.com
  15. I have a better suggestion for you than coming to the forums to "stir the pot a bit". Go geocaching. Did 36 today. Took forever to log the finds. But thanks for the suggestion.
  16. I was bored and thought I would stir the pot a bit. However, I don't think it is a completely bad idea. Might get a bunch of free users to become premium members allowing gc.com to buy more servers.
  17. Since weekends seem to be the worst time for performance on gc.com (at least it seems that way to me), I have a suggestion to improve things. As one of the premium member features, restrict logging finds etc. on weekends to only premium members. Non-paying member would have to wait till Monday to log their finds. Seems pretty simple. Start the flaming.
  18. I hope you get it back. On the topic of losing a GPS, here is some hard earned advice that I highly recommend all GPS users do. Take some high reflective tape and put it on all sides of your GPS. If you ever lose it in dense underbrush, you will improve your chances of finding it in the dark with a high powered light. There is a GPSMAP 60CS at N 47 28.075 E 008 12.007 lying in mute testimony to this advice. Tequila
  19. You will get the odd pig as well. Seriously, an event is a great idea. Also, take a look at who is finding caches near you and contact them. Most cachers will be happy to join up for some fun.
  20. I am the cacher who complained about the placement of the cache in the Seaton Trail Parking Lot. For the record, I have no beef with the owner. Beyond, a brief introduction at Tony's funeral last year, I have never met Keith Watson. Nor have I exchanged emails with him beyond altering a log entry at his request for Micro Mania where I inadvertently posted a spoiler. And further for the record, I am not involved in OGA or COG (beyond possessing a membership) and was unaware of Keith's apparent dispute with OGA until yesterday. I do not normally view the forum entries. I complained about the Seaton Trail cache for one very simple reason. In my opinion, it posed a physical danger risk to cachers and perhaps the general public. The cache was nailed to the side of a tree, sixty feet up the tree. The tree had no limbs. The potential for someone to permanently injure themselves attempting this cache far outweighed any caching value this cache had and outweigh the "enjoyment" the placers had in putting it there. And if someone is foolish enough to go up the tree to place the cache, sooner or later, someone will be foolish enough to try going up the tree to get the cache. Does anyone want to live with the thought of someone becoming a paraplegic trying to retrieve such a cache? If you think I am being melodramatic, read the logs for Bird's Eye View where someone broke an ankle retrieving a cache that is much easier to get to than this one. I gave the owner an opportunity to do the honourable thing and archive the cache. His response was to delete my log. My email to the cache approver was replied with a comment that they do not pass judgment on cache risk (in my opinion, a flaw in gc.com's rules). Only after both of these actions, did I contact ORTA and advise them of the risk. Here is the ironic part. I copied the cache approver on the ORTA email as a courtesy. In the email, I happen to mention that the cache was nailed to the tree. Unbeknownst to me, nailing a cache to a tree violates a gc.com rule. Only then did Cache Drone disable the cache and offer the cache owner the option of suspending the cache by some other methods. Instead the cache owner chose to attack me and ultimately archive the cache. In my opinion, a small price to pay to have this risk removed from the geocaching community. ORTA has contacted me and advised that they will have their property management group remove the container from the tree. I will not comment on the private email exchange between myself and the cache owner. Private emails are just that: private. I was unaware of the vandalism that apparently took place at the other caches that were on the tour. If I am to be vilified by the cache owner, or his friends, for standing up for a principle I believe in, so be it. I know there will be people out there that disagree with my position on the danger of this cache and whether or not it should be allowed. That is their right. Again for the record. I have no beef with Keith Watson. While I am a member of OGA, I have no hidden agenda with them. I do not participate in their forums, or their activities. I do attend the annual COG event and am a member of COG. I do not participate in their forums.
