  1. Based on the blackflies in the video, it was probably a nightmare trip. Congratulations. The cache condition is amazing. .
  2. My theory is they found it almost immediately and spent the next two hours filming a documentary for National Geographic. .
  3. * stunned silence * Well, commentators, what do you make of it?! I read this one of two ways. 1) By "attempt" he means they didn't find it. 2) He's messing with us. He did post a happy face. .
  4. Congratulations to Paul n Susan on completing T81. Thank you for another great log. It sounds like you and the kids had a lot of fun. .
  5. In all cases use the rating that existed on the day T81 was published. .
  6. Rating shown is to be used for Tequila:81 Proof GC1537R-Evil in the Park 4.5/3.0 See Posts 52-54 GCX84E-A Grand Word Search 1.5/4.5 See Post 75 GC1498V-Rocky Hike, Scenic Drive 1.5 / 4.5 See Post 106 GCFG140ACT 277 5.0/5.0 See Post 323 GCH1MZ-Silver Peak 2.0/4.5 See Post 355 GCB332-Crooked Creek 2.5/3.5 See Post 358 All of the above caches have been brought to my attention by one or more cachers who were considering them for part of their T81 grid and noticed the change. My thanks to them for their diligence. It is my strong recommendation that you not use one of these caches for your grid. It will make your tracking more complex. This is a recommendation only. You are free to use them at the above rating. For any cache owner following this thread: If you change the rating on one of your caches, placed before April 8, 2008, I am sure all cachers would appreciate you posting a note here advising of the change. Thank you in advance for your consideration. Finally, I think I have all of the above correct. However, fingers and eyes being what they are, there could be an error. If you notice an error please either post a note here or send me an email. Thanks in advance. .
  7. Congratulations to chris-mouse on completing the requirements for Tequila:81 Proof. Another great log and what sounds like an awesome adventure with the BFL Team. .
  8. Why would you say that? There has been no documented incident where a cache owner has received a bill from a bomb squad for "removing" a cache container. . True. The placer is a teen, has posted here, and is a little shaken by the incident. Don't scare them like that! The article says no charges will be filed. As they never are. However, I may or may not argue with Tequila that a guy in Waco, Texas got fined for a parking lot LPC that was blown up a few years ago. But I'd have to look all that nonsense up, and the fines could have been dropped. I was quite impressed with the owner's post in this thread. He explained the situation and apologized for an innocent mistake. There is no need to make him feel any worse than he already does. I hope he learns from this and continues to enjoy caching. As for the guy in Waco, doesn't Texas march to its own drummer? .

  10. Did you hear the part in the report stating they didn't want the public to know where the burial site is located. Perhaps you could remove the cache info from your post. If it truly is a native burial site, the CO should consider archiving the cache out of respect. .
  11. Can we get an update on how your meeting with the OPP went? .
  12. If you read some of the publish logs, they say "april fools" backwards. .
  13. I stand happily corrected. And I look forward to meeting you when you come to log My cache. .
  14. Tequila: Make Mine A Double is not in the works. There are plenty of other double fizzies in existence for cachers to find. Tequila:81 Proof was the first challenge cache in Canada, to the best of my knowledge. It was fun working with Cache Drone and Brook22 to develop and name. And it was even more fun to watch yourself and psycocyclist message each other, via weekend logs, over the summer and ultimately log a joint FTF. Shortly I will update the "Changed Ratings" list. The cache container is in good shape and I look forward to some fun and interesting logs from this years finders.
  15. That issue was discussed extensively in the Canada forum when the log was posted. Rabies was eradicated in the raccoon population in Ontario many years ago. And these raccoons are very people savvy. That parking lot sees a lot of visitors. They know better than to bite the hand that feeds them. But point taken.
  16. Here is a log that made my week. It made my geocaching career. We set out yesterday, from Kingston, to go to the zoo. We decided to try this cache and I have such a story to tell. Here I am, traveling alone with 5 children (ages 4, 7, 9, 12, and 15) I told my 12 year old daughter that I thought she might see a raccoon at this place. (this daughter is a special needs child who's one dream is to see a raccoon in real life) Well, here we are in the parking lot and a 'coon comes out to say hello. Then another, and another, and another. It's like the Make a Wish Foundation prepped these little guys!! We fed them crackers and petted them and one even got on my lap. It was amazing! Thank you to the person who posted this cache! My daughter is thrilled to have had this opportunity! It is hard for her having seizures and so many medical problems. For the time we were there she had forgotten her medical problems and was such a normal child. Thank you. She was moved to tears at this place! Ok, then we move on to the cache. I got the info need and just needed to have my son take the picture of me with the cache.. then.. my other daughter fell in the stream. Lost her shoe and we never did get the required picture. We are going back on August 22nd to finish this cache. I just wanted to share this story because finding this place was such a gift to my daughter, Asia. This is a memory she will never forget. I will try to attach some pictures. NOTE- the owner of this cache kindly asked me to change my log to "FOUND". Thank the many of you who have written emails to me. I will respond to all of you as I can. I am so happy that this story made so many of you happy. You letters have been such a blessing to us. I mentioned to the owner of this cache that in January The Make a Wish Foundation granted one of my daughter's wishes (To go to Disney World) The Make a Wish Foundation was unable to figure out how to make her other wish come true... to see a real raccoon and touch one. Raccoon's are my daughter's most favourite animal. They give her courage and comfort when she has rough medical times. Thank you for allowing me to share this story.
  17. I see your dispute and raise you one "Not quite". For most departments, their EOD unit is comprised of the officers spread all throughout the agency. They are trained, certified, assigned to the unit and issued a pager, then put back to work at their regular duties. I can't think of a single agency that has a fully staffed EOD, 24/7. When a device is located, and it is determined that EOD needs to take care of it, a page is sent out activating the team. The guys responding to the page come from all shifts. Those few who happen to be on duty will need to be temporarily replaced by someone else, so their assigned area is covered. It is almost certain that overtime is being paid out for every person on scene, except the initial responder. Figure half a dozen guys, at about 6 hours each. Whether that extra expense was a waste depends on how you view the scenario. But pretending it didn't cost the tax payers a healthy chunk of cash is naive. And laughing about it is just plain ignorant. The OPP ERT team is comprised of officers throughout the region. In this case, Southwestern Ontario. Each officer is assigned to a detachment in a regular role, and as noted by CR above, respond to a pager for ERT call outs. In addition, the ERT team is chartered with a number of other duties including search and rescue. With respect to the April meeting, at least one OPP officer in SW Ont is a geocacher and a passive observer to these forums. By the time Ane Mae meets with someone they will be well aware of his background and participation in the various threads. .
  18. If you are that concerned, pick up the phone and call the OPP ERT team. You say people are suggesting a ban to you. That tells me you are having dialogs about it. Why aren't you have a dialog with police? You are quick to point fingers in this and other threads. Here is an opportunity for you to do something positive for the geocaching community. Pick up the phone. .
  19. Obviously they're not the type of geocachers that like to do puzzle caches. My 7.5 year old son said exactly the same thing! That is a very unfair statement. Solving a "puzzle" in the comfort of your living room is hardly the same as solving a puzzle in a foreign country under the scrutiny of camera, other competitors etc. Add in the "race" component and it becomes even more difficult. Furthermore, not each person is adept in all of the challenges. Chose the wrong team member and you could have a problem. To be clear, contestants know what they are signing up for. However, to berate them because they were unsuccessful, is unfair and even more important, unnecessary. These guys were fellow geocachers and we should show them a little more respect. .
  20. I think you had an error in your math. Based on $4 per 1,000 hits (with the first 25,000 being free), I come up with $7,900 per day and $2,883,500 per year. Not cheap, but not as bad as your calculations show. Maybe it is time for Groundspeak to create that fabled "Platinum Membership". $10,000/year includes Google Maps. .
  21. "The video you have requested is not available for your geographic region" how i hate that they do that, its so lame as if the rest of the world is on a different planet i wish i knew their reasoning Views fine on my iPad in Canada. .
  22. "The video you have requested is not available for your geographic region" how i hate that they do that, its so lame as if the rest of the world is on a different planet i wish i knew their reasoning Broadcasting agreements with different networks is usually the reason. TCM is frequently blacked out in Canada because they don't own the rights to broadcast the movie here. still makes no sense, i can see blocking the full episodes but this is nothing more then a preview, same as a movie trailer, even more so when the information is available from other sites If it is bothering you that much, contact the provider and ask them why. .

  24. Nope, because it was a grandfathered listing and wasn't allowed any coordinate movements or other changes. Kinda late now, don't ya think? The OP did nothing wrong and does not deserve your insulting sarcasm. If anyone is to blame here, it is the CO for not having disabled/archived it much earlier and the many loggers who logged it without meeting the logging criteria. You owe the OP an apology. .
