If you're looking for some NON-caching fun (what's that???) there is a GREAT, FREE event going on Saturday evening. Each first Saturday of the month the Brooklyn Museum of Art sponsors a free evening of music, art, literature, film, dance, and music celebrating various cultures. The subway runs RIGHT to the museum and is very easily accessible from both the east and west sides of Manhattan. The event runs from 5-11, is in a very nice section of Brooklyn and draws an interesting, diverse, educated, exciting crowd. I drive the four hours almost every month to go simply because it's the thing I miss most about living down there. You can check out the schedule here and then click on "Target First Saturdays" for more details. If you'd like more specific subway directions you can email me with where you're staying and I can help you out. Well worth the trek to Brooklyn.

GeoJeanne, Moosette1 and myself will be coming down tomorrow night and caching Saturday and Monday. We're starting at zip 11732 and hitting all those I haven't... if anyone knows of any that AREN'T available (but aren't disabled for whatever reason), a post would be greatly appreciated. It's the last boyfriend-free weekend for two of us for a while (one is coming back from Iraq and the other is taking up residence here) so we wanted to do a big Girls' weekend down there and of course, we've got to cache! See you on the trail...

Any caches IN or NEAR the Bronx Zoo that we could hit quickly on our way TO or FROM said site of awesomeness?
-
Well, thanks for the suggestions, folks... we've decided to spend Saturday at the Bronx Zoo!
-
While that sounds lovely, I'm thinking it might be a little much for his first caching experience! We're really looking at spending time on the Island, too, as he's never been.

Hey, folks. Coming to Long Island Labor Day Weekend to introduce my boyfriend to my family. Figure we're going to want to break away and do something fun on our own between all the other hubbub. We were hoping to hit First Saturday at the Brooklyn Museum, however there isn't one that weekend, so we're looking for something to do Saturday of that weekend. We don't want to go into the city (we've got plans in the city Sunday) so we're looking for something on the island. Anything involving microbrews would be great, jazz is good, too. Definitely something outdoors, dog-friendly is a bonus... Mugsy and the boy are inseperable! Any beer festivals, or any other sort of thing going on would be great. Thoughts? Thanks!

I developed a bullseye on Thursday and thought it was an allergic reaction to a bee sting. It was growing and increasingly painful so I went to the ER today and was diagnosed (they did the bloodtest but are 99% sure so started treatment). I have to say, my symptoms have not been all that bad (just kind of tired, headache, sore throat) although my doc said I'll probably feel worse before I feel better. The worst part? My stomach's reaction to the antibiotics! Seems like Lyme Disease treatment is kind of a weird science... they didn't even recognize it as a bullseye when I went to the ER Thursday -- I have a bee allergy and because it looked and felt like a bee sting at first I had to go up to be looked at. It took a few friends looking at it and saying, "Um, that looks like Lyme Disease" for me to go back and say to the ER doc, "I hear this is what Lyme Disease looks like." So, I'm out of commission for a few days I guess... the dr said to lay low, stick to the antibiotics and go back Thursday for a followup. Fun fun fun way to end my summer! edit: apparently Lyme Disease effects my brain as I had the wrong day!

Thanks for the feedback. I'm going to look at some of the area caches suggested. I haven't taken my boyfriend caching yet... so depending on how much he likes it we may extend our weekend in Placid. We're supposed to drive up on a Friday in Sept. after work and hike Marcy on the Saturday before returning Sunday. If he gets into caching I'd like to stay Sunday to do some caches in the area, as well... of course we may be too tired!
-
Heading to Lake Placid to do Mt. Marcy. Are there any caches in that area? We don't want to stray to far from the course as we're not camping overnight but instead doing the round trip, so they'd need to be somewhere along the Van H. trail. Thanks!

Heading out to the Adirondacks this weekend and staying on Chase Lake for a few days. Looking for some nice caches to bring a potentially new cacher. Needs to be a place where the dog will be welcome! I looked at zip 11343 and there are a few that sound great, so any further suggestions would be helpful!

It's not supposed to be buried! NO! GeoJeanne, Mugsimus and I are sitting here and Mugsy is so pissed she's BARKING! But, who knows... maybe someone will say something. That fish the chick left? I think I had that at one point (seriously... I had a TB that looked just like it). Let's stay tuned. Also, anyone notice how empty that cache looked? -
YAY! Congrats, Rusty! Can't wait to do NightMare on Ralph Road and Word Search Hell. Rock on!
-
Instead of starting them in Manhattan, what about starting them both, at midnight, in the other bug's territory... and not announcing where that will be?
-
I'm going to take them both to Vermont... and attach VT state flags... you guys have waaaaaaaay too much time on your hands!
-
but isn't it fun? I just started it on the off-topic ones... the first one there? Weird Science -- Anthony Michael Hall... and the other guy. C'mon... it's fun!
-
I have more, you know... it's all Laura and I did today while being snowed in and driving to and from the bank... be prepared for an off-topic thread... yay! There are so many. But if I take my meds... the voices go away!
-
My Two Dads -- Paul Reiser and... the other guy. (note: When I started singing the theme song to my dog she started "a roo"ing... you know that funny noise they make? Oh my!)
-
I don't think you've got it right... you really have to be picky... works with most, not all... like it doesn't work with "They Might Be Giants". *CHiPS -- Eric Estrada (whose birthday is 3.16) and the other guy *Miami Vice -- Don Johnson and the other guy... *Cagny & Lacy -- everyone knows Tyne Daly, but who's the other one? *I Spy -- Bill Cosby and the other guy (white guy) *The Scarecrow and Mrs. King -- we all know Kate Jackson *Father Dowling Mysteries -- We all know Tom Bosley God, I'm good at this!
-
I contacted the ones who said they placed it, and the email bounced back... apparently they don't have their aol account anymore AND haven't been back to gcing.com since mid feb. But I like your idea and will give it a whirl. Poor George!
-
Note the time change to 8 a.m. please! Wanted to give you all time to hit even MORE of the area caches
-
Math... bad... at least he keeps it exciting and clean... we've all had that experience of Amityville Horror... I'd rather do math!
-
I forgot one... look at Saved By The Bell -- Zach and Slater... Zach wins Lisa and Jesse... Jesse wins It's a bizarre phenomenon!

Hi, there. I have a TB "Curious George Sees America" who was placed in a TB hotel in lower Michigan in December. The cache has not been stolen or vandalized in any way, but I noticed some logs saying they didn't see my bug there (it's on the page that George is there). Has anyone come across him in their travels or heard from someone who didn't know how to log a bug? I'd hate to have to give up on him... he was my second bug and has gotten lots of mileage!
