  1. After looking at several Metal Detectors for several months I had just purchased a Bounty Hunter Land Ranger. My son-in-law asked me “Now that you have a new metal detector are you going to go geocaching?” I of course said what most people say “What is geocaching?” He replied “Go to www.geocaching.com.” which I did. I found a few caches listed that were close to me. Knowing the location good enough, I found my first cache without a GPS/r. I then went back home and borrowed a gps/r from a friend that said he had found no use for the toy. After locating 3 more caches the next day I was hooked. Since then I have added more gps/rs and related accessories to my collection and have visited places with my family that I would have probably never went to without being involved in the sport. I have had the pleasure of meeting several geocahers. Most tell me they feel the same way about going places. I have both Magellan Platinum and a Magellan Color. Also a Garmin 76S (that I hardly ever use). I do enjoy this sport and it is less costly than some things I have done for relaxation. I still have the Metal Detector but use my GPS things lots more. I have even used the Metal Detector to help find the cache in heavy grass cover.
  2. Actually I had 4 FTF in one day and they were 40+ from first to last. Didn't set out to be FTF on them it just worked out that way. This was the first: Riverbend , the second was: Loup Junction about 2.5 miles away as the crow flies, the third was: "P TOWN" about 39 miles SW as the crow flies and the 4th was: "SARTORIA" about 7.5 miles west of "P TOWN". We also did another one or two along the way home. It was just a nice Sunday drive. Altogether about 150 miles caching that Sunday afternoon

  7. I have used my metal detector at least once to find a cache that was covered with grass and other things of that nature. I don’t always have the metal detector with me when I am geocaching though.
  8. Hi carleenp I found that same cache just the day before you did. I happened to have a couple of visitors with me when I brought the cache to the car to look it over and sign the log. As these guests were looking thought the cache they did comment about the parking ticket also. I didn’t however take the time to look it over but I also thought it was strange. Just another geocaching memory
  9. If I want to find a number of caches I drive 100 miles to Lincoln, NE or 150+ Miles to Omaha, NE - Council Bluffs, Iowa area. I have driven further than that on a geocaching weekend with the grandkids with grandma helping out. Lots of Lewis and Clark Caches in Eastern and Northern NE, Western IA and MO right now as the Lewis and Clark Centennial celebration is coming up soon. Sometimes my Son and I go on a day road trip together and take some of the grandkids along.
  10. My closest unfound cache is 63.7mi SW. There are a couple that I haven’t found that are closer but they are archived or disabled so can’t be counted.
  11. Here is my collection of GPS stuff so far. Of course I need spares in case I have help from the grandkids or other helpers.
  12. There are only 19 caches within 50 miles one of which is temporarily unavailable, five are one month or less in age, one is a Virtual Cache (I am the owner). Some of us are trying to add more so hopefully that number will increase.
  13. I was trying to find a user name for my Yahoo email address a few years ago. I wanted to use Countryguy but it was taken. It happened that the people that did our taxes were called “Contryman and Associates” So I just dropped the r like they did and the rest is history. Thanks
  14. It was 2 degrees this morning with 10" or so of snow on the ground when I found this cache. http://www.geocaching.com/seek/cache_detai...7-6F2223498403} Wind-chill was somewhere below 0 but not sure how much. Just another winter day in Nebraska.
