  1. I'm happy to see FirstMass is still alive and well. It was my first find too, so I have a special soft spot for that one.
  2. Surrender your caches and GPSr. Resistance is futile. Your hide style and GPSr will be added to our own.
  3. Nobody? Maybe I'm being impatient. After all it IS only 9:30am here.
  4. OK, so I'm going to upload this weekend's cache listings into my new iPod Classic. run PQ put PQ into GSAK, filter, export .gpx to my specifications convert gpx to vcf upload to iPod as I've always done in my oild one I'm thinking, "ooh this is slick!" It scrolls the GC code and cache name and rating. Then I click on it... It ONLY had the GC code, name, rating and URL. No descriptions! Anybody have any idea how to work around this? Apparently the trusty old vcf method doesn't work anymore I'll do more research on my end, but if anybody has an answer I'd greatly appreciate it. If this doesn't work, I'll load up the old iPod just to take geocaching. LOL!
  5. I don't really get it either. I've only gone to a few events and most of those usually had a table with a geocoin book open so people could write down the numbers and log them. I just don't see the fun in that. The only coin I've ever "discovered" I did so because it was a joint find with my girlfriend. She officially moved it, I logged it as discovered because I was with her on both ends and it happened to be a particularly cool coin. but we did find it in the wild and move it along, as it's meant to do. I've never been one for amassing finds either as my stats show. I cache when the mood stsrikes or if I'm someplace new. Going out and finding caches all day for whole weekends and what not just isn't fun to me. That's the way I prefer it. Not looking at it on a table alongside 50 other people. But each to their own. That's part of the beauty of this game. Everybody can play the way they want to.
  6. They really need to change that to something like "Caches that are buried, or require digging." This is a point that seems to be a constant source of confusion and arguement. It really could stand to be clarified a bit more.
  7. Too bad the owner looks to be gone from the game. Last logged in 2004. Has 3 hides, 1 find (on his own cache).
  8. My job description says I'm a senior research associate involved in pre-clinical testing and development of an autologous, therapeutic cancer vaccine as well as some infectious disease work using the same/similar technology. Or mad scientist if you prefer. Lately (the past few months) that means I mostly sit at my desk most of the day surfing the internet and planning for Halloween while looking like I'm busy. You might say our workload has trailed off a bit lately.
  9. Did anybody else automatically read this in the announcer's voice from the show/movie?
  10. There was a guy in Kauai that did this. He'd found all the caches on the island, so he encouraged visitors to hide caches which he could find then he'd adopt and maintain the caches for them. Win-win situation there. I'm not sure how willing others are though. This is a somewhat unique situation.
  11. What they said. If there's any delay, it's highly unusual for Clyde. He's always been very helpful and responsive.
  12. Gosh, no kidding. In the time it took the OP to type the post they could have bought a membership. Seems like a good way to get banned - publicly asking how to cheat the system. The way I read it, it seems to me the OP has a PM, but doesn't want to have to pay for second one for his kid for the times he happens to be with him but still wants to be able to track his finds when he comes along. He IS supporting geocaching, just doesn't want to have to do so twice. Good case for being able to have some kind of family membership though.
  13. :window stickers: When can we start seeing these in the Groundspeak store?
  14. Interesting. It looks like the hider never went to confirm it was in fact gone.
  15. I was thinking the same thing. I wonder if maybe the person just clicked the wrong day in the dropdown menu when they logged it. I've done that before.
  16. Another possibilty is that it's listed somewhere other than here on geocaching.com. Terracaching, Navicache, and various other smaller sites are out there.
  17. I'm told hamster caching is great fun. I beleive we have an enthusiast here somewhere
  18. What Starbrand said. And as long as you're willing to maintain them.
  19. Meh, I'll just stick to the 40-pack at Costco for ~$10. Still cheap, far less work. I did see another hack like this for some other battery that yielded I think 6 button cells. Saved like $10 or something like that over buying the button cells themselves. I was way off, but here it is: http://www.instructables.com/id/12-Volt-Ba...e-Surprised.../
  20. No worries, oddly enough most engine displacements (nearly all that I can think of actually) are listed in liters these days so at least we're used to THOSE being metric. If only everything else would get with the program. You can get diesel Santa Fe's there?! dadgum, we can't get much other than large trucks in diesel here. I'm not sure why exactly.
  21. Yup. It's just a part of life. Necessary evil and all that
