  1. In case you were serious (in which case I don't blame you I was the same way) virtual caches are caches without an actuall container or logbook. For an example a roadside memorial can be a virtual cache. To log a find you must answer a question (in the example above it can be a date or name on the memorial) in an email to the cache owner, not the on the logpage. Hope this helps!!
  2. Locationless are easy. I like them though. Even though as some point out the are number padders there are very few of them so how much can they really help? I am able to log 2 locationless from my house, without even needing to go outside. I havn't yet logged them but I will soon.
  3. I'm a lurker!! I've visited the forums many times this week, (probably over 100 log ins) and have spent many hours reading the posts, silently (4 hours a day this week). I made less than 10 posts. I find most of the forums very funny. The battles between a certain few members and the admins are quite ammusing, although I agree with the admins for the most part. mtn-man continuously says it right about the intent of these forums and the job of the admins. I don't however mind a little off topic stuff from time to time (assuming it is good natured). As for the accusations that the forums are getting more hostile lately, I don't have anything to compare them to. I'm trying to quit lurking and post more but for now, back to the shadows!!
  4. I love UTM and HATE!!!! everything else!!! UTM is so much easiser. Its measured in meters, and because I have an older GPS that only has .01mile increments I just look at the coords themselfs and pace count the distance. I'm an orienteer so pace counting is natural to me. Also when I draft orienteering maps that only contain 1 or 2 position regester marks UTM you can just measure using the OCAD(mapping software) grids. 1:15000scale means 1milimeter=15meters. That might also be part of the reason I like UTM so much. If the cache pages didn't have the UTM coords on them I probably wouldn't cache. It would be nice if the benchmark pages where updated to match the cache pages (deg min-decimal with UTM underneath).
  5. I am considering making a multi-step cache. It will have 3 steps before you can find the cache (so 4 steps total). The coordinates for the cache itself will not be posted, to find them you must visit 2 of my other caches, finding a mathmatical formula to find the lat in one and a formula to find the long in the other. The 3rd step will be small cache containing only a code (this will not be its own cache but part of the new cache). The final cache, found by using the coords from the first to steps, will be locked shut, the code from the 3rd step is the combination for the lock. I have not yet placed the cache but it is in the planning stages. What type of cache should I list it as?? From what I see it can be a multi or a puzzle cache (due to the formulas). Also what size should I list it as, the cache itself is a large container, step 1 and 2 are regular size and step 3 is a micro?
  6. I have the opposite counts of many people. I enjoy both caches and benchmarks. I have found something like 40benchmarks and 4caches. My profile says different because I am just to lazy to log these things.
  7. When i visited the Topozone website recently i noticed that the site now supports WGS84 Dataum. They are compleatly redesigning. their site. Seams like Topozone will now be a good alternative to Mapquest. This will be the biggest help for the more remote caches that would usually show a blank brown screen with mapquest.
  8. what is a good rule to follow for the diference in a micro cache to a tradition cache. Is it a particular size, type of container?? What are some examples of each type of container
  9. I live near tucson arizona and have found over 100 of the USGLO MARKERS and only two were in the database. When i first started hunting this was a dissapointment because i found these easy but found very few of the ngs markers. Now i think of it as a challenge to find the ngs ones. Other common finds in my area are BLM marks.
