  1. My first bug has gone awol. Too bad. I created to raise awareness for the Special Operations Warrior Foundation that raises school money for children of Spec Ops members killed in action. http://www.geocaching.com/track/details.aspx?id=968128
  2. I have experienced problems seeing the 60csx screen while driving only if the backlight is off (timed out using the battery). With a DC cord attached the backlight stays on all the time. Even with my 48yo eyes reading the screen hasn't been a big problem. Just make sure you have the auto routing settings where you want them before launching.
  3. Thanks for the tip. Done!
  4. I have the 60csx and agree with the previous posts on the unit. It's the only GPS I have or plan to have in the near future. I bought it primarily for outdoor use. Though it performs well enough so far for in car use. I use the window mount and a power cord with the backlight on for road navigation. I wrote a short review on my Blog.
  5. I vacation with my family in Wilmington/Wrightsville Beach every summer for the last 15 years or so. My trip in July was my first geocaching roadtrip. Though my kids aren't really into it we found a few. Seems there are a lot of Micros which I usually avoid. There's one in the intercoastal I believe that is only accessable via boat I'd like to go after.
  6. A relative newbie in geocaching. Here's a link to my first TB I launched on 9/11. Specialops.org Travel Bug I wanted to do one to raise help a good cause.
  7. Received my CN 2008 NT dvd from gpsnow.com. Shipped same day and I had it in 3 days. Install was straight forward. I opted to reboot the system before registering the software. Took a bit over an hour to load the continental US maps onto the unit. With those and GA, SC and NC topo 24 national parks I'm at 1GB on the card. Thumbs up so far.
  8. I'm giving the CN 2008 a test run today.
  9. You'll want to get a 2GB SD card. I'd go with CN 2008 NT not v8. I opted against Topo 2008 in favor of the Topo 24 maps. 1:100 won't help you a lot compared to the National Parks maps at 1:24. IMO Luckily where I live and spend most of my time in the woods are covered in the Topo 24 maps. YMMV
  10. I ordered 2008 NT from GPSnow.com on Friday. I should have it shortly. I've been using my 60csx since early July but haven't had road maps yet beyond what's loaded on the unit when it ships. Looking forward to getting them loaded finally.
  11. I grabbed this one. http://www.maxpedition.com/store/pc/viewPr...p;idproduct=179 This is another good option. A bit easier to put on your belt. http://www.maxpedition.com/store/pc/viewPr...p;idproduct=444 And grab some screen skins to protect it.
  12. Better to have it and not need it. That's why I bought the 60csx. I leave the compass off except in the woods where it comes in handy. I keep my trusty Brunton handy as a backup.
  13. Can you link it for us? I don't see it on their website at all. Thanks
  14. I also recently bought my 60csx and have held off buying CN V8 because I heard 2008 (V9) was coming in August. I called and talked to Garmin last week and heard that 2008 had started shipping to some retail stores. (Amazing that I would have thought Amazon.com would obvious). I have yet to find it listed anywhere when searching. I rec'd this response on 7/23 from Garmin.
  15. I stumbled on geocaching when I bought my 60csx last month. I first found out about it on the Garmin sight which eventually lead me here. I think it's kind of fun but haven't been able to convince the kids to get involved.
  16. I just bought the 60csx and it works really well. So far I've used it on a couple of road trips with just the preloaded mapping software which is weak but did the job for the main highways. I've hit the deep woods in GA and have had no problems getting good reception. Even in the basement of my house near a window I can pull good signals. I avoided Topo 2008 for the reasons imajeep mentioned. I wanted 1:24 maps so I got the National Parks East disc. I want the CN 2008 (v9) when it comes out. I've held off on buying V8 for that reason. No date is set for the full release yet according to Garmin product support as of yesterday. Mine came with a 128mb SD card instead of a 64 as listed. But I grabbed a 2GB card for $20. $330 is a pretty good price. You can beat that if you're patient. I got mine shipped on Ebay for just under $300. Just budget about $400-500 for maps and accessories.
  17. Abnerone, Thanks for the post. Good info there. I recently bought the 60csx and a 2g card. I've held off on buying the City Nav software opting to wait for the full DVD release. I did buy the eastcoast topo maps and used them on vacation last week and managed to get by ok on the and off the road. I'm really looking forward to the CN software however. I think you're right about the compression delay issue. I'll just avoid that headache and go the standard version route. Thanks again.
