  1. I have a eTrex Vista HCx that I use on several different bikes. By far the best bike mounts are the RAM brand available from gpscity.com, http://www.gpscity.com/gps-mount/garmin/etrex-vista-hcx. I've tried the Garmin mounts and didn't find them secure enough. These are the two mounts that I use: 1) Handlebar mount http://www.gpscity.com/rap274ga16 2) Stem or handlebar mount with adjustable arm http://www.gpscity.com/ramb108ga16 You won't be dssappointed with either (or both) of these. Very high quality, very secure, and quick shipping from gpscity. If you every change gps receivers, you only have to replace the cradle not the entire mount.
  2. Yes, I like biking, climbing, and geocaching! Found lots of caches on the bike.
  3. Hi. I'm just packing it now and will ship it today. It's in very nice condition and you won't be disappointed. I've included a pair of rechargeable batteries. The owner's manual and quick start guide are included, so you shouldn't have any difficulty getting it going. The interface cable that comes with it requires a serial connection to your computer if you want to download waypoints. It downloads perfectly from the geocaching.com site. Let me know if you have any questions about it.
  4. This is my eTrex on eBay: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewI...E:IT&ih=017
  5. I can't duplicate your problem. What settings do you have under "Routing Setup"? Are you selecting the waypoints in "GPS on" mode (actively tracking satellites) or "GPS off" mode (not tracking them)? I have tried various options under "Routing Setup" without any effect on this problem. I m currently using "Prompted", "Prompted", "On". GPS is set to "Normal" in the setup menu, and I'm pretty certain that tracking had occurred before I began setting up routes.
  6. Yes to both. Problem is repeatable and occurs about 50% of the time when creating a new route. Hard to believe that I'm the only person experiencing this issue.
  7. I've been experiencing this problem with my Vista HCx since new, so thought I would post and see if anyone can duplicate it. Running version 2.4 unit software and 2.3 firmware. I can get a hard lockup (gray screen, buttons frozen, requires power cycle to reset) about every other time I create a new route with the following steps: Main Menu => Routes => New => Select Next Point => Waypoints => (pick any WP) => use I get the lockup on either the 1st or 2nd waypoint selected for the new route. This is very repeatable and very annoying, as it requires a power OFF to clear the lockup. Anyone else have this problem?
  8. I use this eTrex with an iMac, no problem. The RS232 side of the adapter gets connected to the serial connector of the eTrex cable. The eTrex cable has a special connector that attaches to the back of the eTrex. The USB side of the adapter goes to your computer. It looks like the adapter software is Mac compatible; I see a Mac icon on the packaging, so it should work, possibly depending on what version of Mac OS you are running. Worst case, you might have to purchase another USB to serial adapter.
  9. Go to the Garmin website and read the FAQ on memory cards. As I recall they recommend by name the Kingston and Sandisk micro SD cards. There is a model of the Sandisk that will not work in the Garmin.
  10. Has anyone had problems installing WebUpdater for Mac version 2.0.2? On the "Installation Type" step I get a dialogue box saying "You cannot continue. There is nothing to install." I've had version 2.0.1 installed and working for months. I'm running 10.4.11 on a 1GHz PowerPC G4. Even tried removing version 2.0.1 before the install and still won't work. Any ideas? Thanks. The earlier version installed a receipt that is incorrectly labeled 2.1 instead of 2.0.1. If you delete the receipt files in /Library/Receipts that begin with 'Install Garmin Webupdater' you should be good to go. Fred Thanks Fred, that worked! But the receipts are only visible when I perform a search. They don't appear in the Finder view for some reason.

  12. That's a problem with the Opera browser that's installed on the Nokia. There maybe a way to fix it, but the quickest solution is just install another browser. A friend of mine had that issue and I think she now uses Mozilla. Look at the available browsers for the Nokia and try another one, they are easy to download and install.
  13. Has anyone successfully updated their Nuvi 350 to version 5.00 unit software using WebUpdater? Apparently version 5.00 fixes a problem where WebUpdater can't find the connected gps. Sure enough, WebUpdater can't find my Nuvi 350 so I can't update it. I'm running a Mac so I can't manually install the self-extracting (.exe) file either. Any ideas?
  14. The Garmin case fits okay with the Vista HCx, but some slight interference with the lower side buttons, and hard to see through the plastic window. I recommend putting the Invisible Shield on the unit, then cut the plastic window out of the Garmin case, and use it like that. This seems like the best compromise for a protective case.
  15. Just go to the "Geocache Setup" page and pick the symbols that you want to use: Find -> Geocache -> (Menu) -> Geocache Setup
  16. Yes the Nuvi 350 is in the top ten. And the Nuvi 350 is rated #2, closely behind the 660, 80 vs 83 points out of 100 in overall score.
  17. Another vote for the Nuvi 350 here. It does everything I needed and more. Look at the reviews on Amazon.com to compare the various nav units. Also, the October Consumer Reports magazine just rated auto nav units and ranked the 350 as a close second to the 660, although the 260 was not reviewed. My only criticism of the 350 is that the voice commands could be louder, but that's probably true of all the Nuvi's. I find the male voice easier to hear above the car noise.
  18. Setup Menu -> System -> Software Version (menu key)
  19. If you just bought the Nuvi 350 it should be eligible for a free upgrade to v9, mine was. I think Garmin will send you a v9 disk for the update. Don't know about loading v9 to the map60csx, are there some copy protection issues there?
  20. I just got a Nuvi 350 refurb from an eBay reseller for $308, with 1yr warranty and ver 9 of the mapset. I was considering the 660 also but wanted something less expensive initially to experiment with and determine what features were important. I didn't need the FM transmitter or Bluetooth, but the wider screen might be nice. I'd say buy cheap for your first unit unless you already know with some certainty what your requirements are.
  21. As I originally stated, this TB wasn't in the cache TB inventory, so there was no option to log it as "Retrieved". Therefore I have logged it as "Discovered". When logged as "Discovered" it is not added to my TB inventory. Since it's a signature item TB, I have the option to keep it or move it on according to its owner. Do you know otherwise?
  22. Thanks. I will do that and report back. I got an answer back from TheDeviousMaxPower. It is one of his and I can log it by dropping the last digit from the TB number, so it's 510362. I guess the last digit may refer to which copy it is. I'm still somewhat unclear on the concept here.
  23. Thanks. I will do that and report back.
  24. Could be, except the TB numbers don't match. Also it seems to be in Colorado and I'm in Calif. The full number on mine might be TB5103626 but that doesn't work either.
  25. I searched for this but can't find an answer on the forum. I retrieved a TB from a cache where it wasn't listed in the cache inventory. I tried searching for it as a trackable item by both number and name but it doesn't seem to exist. The tag attached to it is handwritten. The TB number is 5103626, and name is "MAX Power", a toy soldier. Any help with this would be appreciated.
