  1. Well we are back from our cruise and unfortunatley did not have the engery or time to even look for one cache! Our first stop was Skagway where we went on an excursion to the "yukon suspension bridge" so that took up most of our time at this first port. Our second stop was Juneau and we forgot to bring the gps!!! Then our last stop was Ketchikan and it just poured rain that whole day but was still very impressed with "Creek Street"! Wonderful time but no caches (

  3. Thanks kindly, getting excited!!!! The link that was included in one of the posts took me to "Alaskan Cruise Caches"!!!!!!!! I just sent most of them to my GPS! If I only find one I'll be happy but seems would be a shame to go to Alaska and not even look for one!!!
  4. Great tips! I was thinking there would not be time to find any caches during the excursion trip, as you are with a tour that I'm sure isn't going to stop while we go off galavanting. But good to know there is maybe at least 4 that are walking distance to where the ship goes in to port. Would be kinda neat to find one so far from home!! Thanks for the suggestions peeps!
  5. I'm failry new to geo caching and have found several but close to home. I am however going on an Alaskan cruise next week and will be taking a day excursion trip from Skagway to the Klondike Trail & suspension bridge. I thought how neat it would be to maybe find a cache so far from home, I live in Kelowna, BC Canada. But I sure don't know how I would go about finding this info out. I did go type in a skagway zipcode and a couple came up , but have no idea if they are anywhere near where I am going to be? Any suggestions? Thanks
  6. Well I think I have it cleared up now through a friend. Apparently the geo coin is just a collectors pin (geo coin) and is not expected to be moved on, however we needed to record the code number on the travel bug and go log it in as found and report where we moved it to. Will make sure to get that done asap. There should have been some/any info with both the coin and travel bug apparently, this did make it confusing. Hopefully it will be solved now, don't want to mess up a travel bug journey. Thx for help
  7. Today we found a cache with what we believe to be both a geo-coin and a travel bug. The travel bug was not placed the the cache owner. The cache was said to have a walrus geo-coin and a travel bug. Confusing because it was actually the travel bug that had I am a walrus on it and the geo coin said MrGigabyte with a map of Canada and the www.geocoins.com website on it. The geo coin had nothing to display signifying a walrus but the travel bug did. The travel bug did not have a desination. We took the geo coin and removed the travel bug to a new cache location we placed today. Did we do something wrong? Were we suppose to move the geo coin along also? I logged on the site that we found them both and replaced the travel bug to another location? I am so confused?? Any comments??
  8. Well I did go and purchase a unit. I got a Garmin eTrex Legend Canadian Tracker Pack. It was either $169.00 by itself or $199.99 including 4 disc set of "mapsource" and carrying case. They map source cd set alone was $179.00 so I figured the pack was the better deal. However..........I'm now thinking I did/do not need the mapsource cd's? I'm not sure exactly what that is all about but I only am going to be using it for local geo-caching and not trips or anything out of town. Just says TOPO Canada Mapsource? Does anyone know what advantages I might have by d/ling this onto my GPS or if I really need it?
  9. Sounds like a Legend (8mb, grayscale screen). I've got two of them. No difference, AFAIK. If you could get one used from a fellow Canadian, that might be the best situation. Enjoy your new hobby. :-)
  10. It's a blue Garmin, and I did find the rubber flap that does connect it to pc. I appreciate all the feedback!! I gather then it should not matter if I live in Canada if I buy a GPS from the USA? Would there be any additional downloads or software that would be required by buying one from there? I will look around here first for a new one however as by the time I paid shipping and have customs nab me for their share, it just may not cost more here, will be checking it out some time this week.
  11. I have just been introduced to geo-caching and had first day out today with borrowed GPS. I think I may be addicted!! I am looking to buy a GPS ($100.00 max) I have been through ebay but am I don't know much about these devices yet and am wondering if it matters if someone in Canada buys one from USA? Does it affect the maps that are on it ect?? I read alot about downloading onto gps but the Garmin one I am borrowing sure doesnt seem to have any ports or anywhere to plug into pc?? Sorry for sounding so dumb but I am new to all this and want to make sure I buy the right device. Any info would be appreciated. I signed up 2 days ago with nick "binky11" but am now "3ladybugz" But because I just signed in with that new nick I was not yet able to access the forum with it. Thanks for any info
