  1. I have used both the energiser and duracell batteries. They both give me the same results... When sitting on the shelf the lose thier charge rapidly. but if the are in something like my GPSr or my led lights, etc. they last a long time. I don't understand why they act this way. I have not used them in any clocks tho. I have also used the rechargable alkalines but get the opposite reaction. They do no last long in anything except a clock (and sometimes not even then) but they hold thier charge really well on the shelf.
  2. I like finding trinkits. Sometime I find stuff that I not seen in some of the stores I visit. I also find things that are home made as well. Reciently I found a bookmmark that was made from 3 japanese postage stamps. It was very artisicly done. I have also fonund items that I would not have bought for myself because i never really saw the usefulness of said items but after carrying one around I discovered that it was useful. Some stuff is stuff that you can not find locally such as 1 £ poker chip. I don't have the finances to travel halfway around the world to get something like that. Micros are also fun as well and it can be a real challange to get some of them. I have even DNFed one because I just could not manage to get it out with out getting caught by the muggles. large cahces can be hid in novel ways as well. I tried three times to find a recent one before I found. The first two time I even looked right at it thinking "awe and ammo can could not find it there". Forunetly I am a bit stubborn and would not give up on it. I would have kept trying to find it until I died of old age. You can also come up with other new ideas for caches. I am goinf to place a new cache next year at a school. Tho you will not have to worry about the kids as this school was torn down long ago and that is left of it is the foundation and an old well (covered) I have found out that one of the last kids to attend this oold school is still alive and I am going to go talk to him about the history of the old school. Then I am going to wirte it down on a sheet of laminated paper to include in the cache so people can learn a little about the history of the old one room schools in the area. I ave already learn stuff that I did not know. John Z. Doe
  3. Boy I am glad I am immune to PI! Both me and my Dad are immune tho my Mom is not.
  4. I was searching for cache in a rural park when I heard some people coming so I whipped out my camera. They saw me and then procceded to tell me all about this one really beutiful area up in the mountains that I could get lots of great pictures. They just would not shut up and leave. (I was too polite about it just going "huh huh, yeah" etc.) Icould have been halfway to the next cache had it not been for them yaking away for half an hour. John Z. Doe
  5. If you have an MP3 or MP4 player that contains an e-book feature its not really that hard to put cache info on that in a txt format - thus Less paper required and no PDA purchase necessary. the only downfall is that you can not input info in the field so some paper like small notebook may still be required. Many MP3 players have a voice recorder built in. Mine does. Tho I keep a geocaching jornal anyway. Tho I have used the recorder on occation when I just do a quick cache and dash. John Z. Doe
  6. briansnat is right most of the new GPSr can save soem extra infor such as the size and type of cache with the waypoint. I have an old GPS that can not do that so what I do is use my MP3 player. It can display plain text files on it's itty bitty (2 lines 15 characters each) screen. It is a bit of a pain in the butt but I don't have to print anything out unless it is a map or some other graphic that is required to find the cache. It also allows me to keep a few other text files that are useful for reference in finding some of those puzzle caches. I have seen mp4 players that can display jpeg images as well as text files and even pdb book files. I was thinking about getting one while back before I got into geocaching. I have heard that you can get PDAs pretty cheap on ebay that are more than up to the task of keeping track of caches. tho right now I am a little on the poor side due to medical bills for my wife. 7. Never seen any famous people. But I did know one that was infamous. The last time I saw Him he was trying to borrow money from a friend of my dad's but no one would give him any as every one knew that all he was going to do was buy more PCP. 2 weeks later he shot Regan. 8. I still want one. Silver or gold. Prefer silver. I love the color of silver.
  9. I had not thought of those types of lines. They are a little hard to see in this image tho. Not sure of the coloring in the tail but I think I can deal with that. I will do some stuff with it then repost it to see what you think. It will prolly take a few days. I see a few other little problems with it that I want to fix. Tho it is not your fault but my mistakes. I certainly appreciate the little bit of work you have done for me. John Z. Doe
  10. Count me in for one. I think it is great! John Z. Doe
  11. I have had mixed results with alkalines, eeven the ones that are supposed to be rechargable. I ended up getting some duracell NiMH batteries (8 bucks for 4 AA, youch). My old GPS say it will run 10 hour on avarage on a set of batteries. So far I am on hour 15 or 16 and still going strong. That 8 bucks seems to be worth it. And so far they seem to be holding a charge in storage as well (I got an extra set). I have heard lots of good things about the Lithiums but the cost is way too steep for me. John Z. Doe
  12. Not entirely sure what it is that you want. Did you want any background with that? Your name, perhaps? I may just edit-out those lines running through the whites of the eyes. They just don't make any sense to me. Not entirely sure myself. The image I ended up with just seemed flat I guess. The coloring you did is less stark than the black and white of my image. I thought about the lines in the eyes but I did not like them with out the lines. Maby it needs larger pupils instead. I can add a name or such to it easy enough. Don't need a background. It is mostly matter of improving the look of the image either thru better coloring or shading. Both of witch I am lacking in skills with. John Z. Doe
  13. It's times like these when I wish I didn't have a filtered internet service. I can't see a thing. I just don't get access to photobucket.com I hope this works. I am a bit new at this. I was going to try and use google's version of photo bucket but I do not have OS enough to run the custom uploader that it required. Where as photobucket has more options that can be used with any OS. John Z. Doe
  14. Greetings one and all! I found this image on the net. It was a little small so I enlarged it, cleaned it up and added detail. But my skills pale in comparison to those here. I was hoping some one could make it look nicer. I would like to be able to use it in a sig item. Tho I have yet to figure out what I am going to make for a sig item yet. John Z. Doe
  15. Have you checked your spam filter or junk mail folder. That is prolly where it ended up at. That happened to me I had to pull it out of my junk mail folder. John Z. Doe
  16. That is a neat idea! John Z. Doe
  17. One thing you could do to help people to understand what they are is to put them in a ziplock with a small print out explaining what it is. That way other cachers will know what it means and might find them more interesting. I myself did not know about FIRST but it would make an interesting item to collect. John Z. Doe
  18. There isn't any within 10 miles of me. There is 11 within 20 miles but one of them is for members only. I have found all but 2 of the others. But I have only just started in on the game. Hopefully I will be able to get more added once I have got my car going again. (computers make for good gas milage in cars but make it a pain to fix) John Z. Doe

Hi! I am also new to geocaching too. You want to read the entire cache page. I have noticed that the title can also be a clue as to where or how a cache is hidden. Don't give up. The 2nd cache I searched for I could not find the first time around. I did go back and found it. Must have had my head screwed on backwards the first time around as I looked in that crevice and didn't see it. Good luck and keep searching, John Z. Doe
  20. Sometimes I ma never sure what I got in my pockets. John Z. Doe
