  1. I use both plastic and ammo. But I think painting them helps hide them.. too easy to see the coloured tops. CTC sells Camouflage paint..you buy 3 or 4 cans and spray away. Sticks well to plastic. There is a plastic paint that bonds right to plastic that works well to. Murfster
  2. I have asked for one to be ordered, you never know who you end up talking with at the store.. if you make a good case..you might get lucky GPS Central has the same model for $529.95 a $170 difference. Also for the difference I'd get the 60CS for $589. Murfster
  3. Mike, They had a problem today with the server that seems fixed. Try the Free one again. For each cache of theirs you find, you send in the code work, one entry. i.e. find 5 caches get 5 code words.. 5 entries! Some of their caches are listed on the geocaching site, so they count towards your found total as well.. kind of a two for one. For example near Kapuskasing...> http://www.geocaching.com/seek/cache_detai...91-d2f56c072e6f Some are not listed as they are commercial. Cache you later, let me know when you have your schedule and perhaps we can meet??
  4. Keith, Book soon! I often stay in Peterborough and find it hard to get a room at short notice. There are two Comfort Inns on Landsdown, too far to walk but good accommodations. Maybe I'll see you there, I know what you look like. Murfster
  5. The rules are simple, in each cache is a "Code" word. ( There are prizes also, like any regular cache) You take the code word and fill in a entry form on their web site. BONUS: There is a free "First Entry" to get you started at http://www.geocachingontario.com/reporting...ime_users.htmso you can see the form. You will then get an e-mail confirming you have entered. Each entry goes into a draw to be held Dec 31, 2004. Prizes range from a canoe to a diamond ring. Murfster
  6. Thanks for posting this, it was a year ago my wife gave me an article from Discover magazine http://www.discover.com/educators-guide/feb-03/guide1/ that sent me out to buy a GPS.
  7. For those planning summer trips, you may want to check out http://www.geocachingontario.com/ They call it "treasure hunting" but it is the same game, only with chances at bigger prizes. I have found a few, others are 5/5, beyond me, but there are the family "Sunday Drive" 1/1 ones as well. They are mostly between North Bay, and Kapuskasing Ontario. ( 4 to 8 hours from Toronto.)
  8. Interesting perspective. I've met the fellow in charge. They are just promoting travel in Northern Ontario. The prizes are legit! The caches are fun and some caches have really good prizes. I'm surprised you think they spammed you.. I never have been , and I've logged quite a few of their caches. They have a privacy policy http://www.geocachingontario.com/privacy_statement/index.htm Just an option for those up this way.
  9. A suggestion for the "links" on the OGA site is http://www.geocachingontario.com Lots of caches and prizes to be had. Check it out!

  11. This is my number 10, goodbye Tadpole, hello????? I was wondering about this my self. I paid the $30 but still was a tadpole?? I hope this works. Thanks Murfster
  12. If those taking your course want GPSr, I found a good source. Run an add in your local paper in the "Wanted to buy" section. There are lots of people who have these and do not use or want them any longer.
  13. I agree with I the Trillium in the middle of the Compass Rose. Great job TT.

    Top 10 Caches

I was wondering about having a "Top 10 " list of your favourite caches. As I go to different areas and do a search, often there are literally hundreds of caches to chose from. But which ones are unique, interesting, worth doing?? Any thoughts? My list would have to include " Baking Bread " located in Ottawa set by the Two Navigators. Murfster

    Christmas 2003

I was given a stamp my daughter designed to put in log books! Very creative I thought. Watch for my red stamp appearing in a log book near you soon!!! Murfster
  16. I prefer NO snow, but the cold limits the bugs. There is a series of caches in Northern Ontario put out by CEC These are usually 5 gallon white pails and blend into the snow quite easily, but in summer are easy to find. Late August to September are my favourite times.
  17. How does someone make a geocoin? I've never seen one. What are they made from?
  18. Sounds like fun, Please keep me posted! Murfster
  19. Thanks.. Great instructions! Murfster
  20. As a newbie (37 found ), I wonder how to best convert UTM to Lat/Long or Lat/Long to UTM? There are websites I have found that will do it, but wonder about software to use when I have no internet connection. Any suggestions?
