  1. Maybe that is the solution. To get the badge you have to actively cache and maintain your cache for at least two years. As a former boy scout: Having a merit badge include one or two years of work seems ridiculous compared to requirements for other badges, especially since it is not a required badge. Most non-required badges can be completed in a single week and usually are during Summer Camps.
  2. A group in space? Not sure whether to report or watch this topic ... I believe they are looking to see if there is a group around the town of Hemsbach on the Bergstraße. You might want to visit the German speaking Geocaching forums for help. http://forums.Groundspeak.com/GC/index.php?showforum=149
  3. Why the political stuff? Can't a grumpy man just be a grumpy man?
  4. You did the best thing. Calmly leave the situation before anything escalates. My wife works alone in insurance and is often in seedy areas meeting strangers. I have encouraged her on several occasions to buy some pepper spray for her key chain. Thank goodness geocaching is more about avoiding strangers. By the way did you hear any dueling banjos?
  5. Might be something like 3rd degree menacing all depends on local laws. That's why you let the police decide.
  6. If you still feel threatened or fear injury to you or your children, report it to the police. Let them decide how and if to pursue it. Probably should also post a needs archived log with a good description to the CO, before someone else meets Mr.GrumpyPants
  7. If you are doing cyphers (puzzle caches) http://rumkin.com/tools/cipher/ is a valuable resource. I have recently downloaded ARG tools to my Iphone for field use.
  8. Maybe something like this? Do not keep me! I'm a TRAVEL BUG® Help me travel from cache to cache. Visit www.geocaching.com and enter my tracking code to find out more about my adventures. Perfect. love it. bGood to hear... wow. can I buy that from geocachi? Um... I thought they all said that. The one I bought off the site did.
  9. I am sure you can. You can search for keywords(i.e. Needs Maintenance)in subject or body from the No-reply@geocaching.com email address. I imagine you could also look for "wet log" or "missing log" if you wanted to get fancy. If you want to just leave the important email in the inbox you would only need to look for "Found" from the same email address and move those to the separate folder. To get to the filters: Gear button -> Settings menu item -> Filter tab -> Create a new filter But, what about Needs Maintence logs that say found in them. Like, for example, "I found the cache and it was soaked, I think you need to replace the logbook". I really need to see how a found log is sent. If found is in the Subject just search for it there and move them over to your "Non Urgent" folder from your in box. If you are worried about words like "wet" or "full" you can make sure that you use the doesn't have. Here for an example. There are probably errors since I don't have an example email in front of me. You can build your own filter for each type based on subject. Also like any filter it will need manipulated over time to take care of cases you didn't think of.
  10. Or better yet, pour some ready mix concrete in the hole and set the ammo can in it while its wet, or form up a box slightly larger than the ammo can so the can can fit comfortably in it. Pull concrete out of the ground when dry and flip it over, viola, instant rock! Is this fake rock suitable to prevent theft, the plan of the OP? I've tried to make "fake rocks", and never managed to make one look ultra-realistic where nobody can tell the difference (so that it prevents theft). Not saying that nobody could, but that it's definitely not automatic. And then all it takes is one careless cacher not placing it back just right, and you're "cover" is blown. I hope the OP hasn't been waiting three years for a reply about rocks. But there are other options. UV penlights are about $1 on ebay with free shipping. Buy a few of those, aggressively hide one in a tiny container, maybe that would prevent theft, or at least make it less of a problem. Just found one on Monday that was exactly this, a fake rock covering an ammo can. The rock was spray Styrofoam around the bottom of a Styrofoam cooler. It must have been placed in some sort of mold or cut to give the outside a rock shape. Then spray painted a rocky color. It seemed pretty obvious if you are looking for it, but it was in landscaping so it could have just as easily been a well cover or an outdoor speaker. The location had over 500 finds so it seems to have stood the test of time. That or the fact that it's on church grounds.

  12. Just found the weirdest thing. A single prescription contact lens. Maybe they were expecting myopic pirates?
  13. Don't know but there is a bigger post about it in the website bug section. http://forums.Groundspeak.com/GC/index.php?showtopic=314941&pid=5292395&st=0entry5292395 Probably can close this one.
  14. Its definitely a bug. Hard to see the error message but there is one. "Object reference not set to an instance of an object." appears when you try to do the search by Username(Found). http://www.geocaching.com/seek/nearest.aspx
  15. Another definition from the hashers. "On On!" is said when you are following marks, so that others in the vicinity know you are on trail and can make their way to trail as well. Don't say "On On" if you are not following hash marks. My link Also for collaboration I found the same signature on this page: My link
  16. Wow! Its hard to plan any event if you can't get good final numbers. The potluck idea is a good one as long as most of the people bring a dish. Are the events usually that unpredictable sounds like a pain. I wonder if there is a way to get better numbers like a notice to contact you to guarantee a seat. Coordinates to a mystery cache if you RSVP?
  17. List it as a Grande. The confusion will stop any complaints.
  18. If I get to ground zero and do not find the cache I will post a DNF. If I find pieces of the cache, super soggy log, or destruction I will post a NM. If I find the log with the destruction and can sign it I post a find and a NM.
  19. Test test test 12 12 12 Toast Toast 1234 test testy testy test test test.
