  1. DOH, I see a statement error up above. I remember our logs being off, and I believe they were off by 8hrs (not three as stated above!) So we found to get our field notes to post correctly, we fudged our GC.com setting timezone to be equal to actual local + 8. Since we are GMT-5, this turned into -5+8 which is +3. With our GC.com setting at GMT+3, and our iPod set to true local time, all our logs have been submitting with the correct timestamp. I don't know what other effects this might have on our account, but I haven't noticed anything yet. I know it worked for us, I would be curious to see if anyone else had luck with it....
  2. This has been an issue for us too. Just playing around, I did find that setting the timezone within the Groundspeak account settings to offset the opposite of the GS local got me the right time in the field notes. I have had another confirmation of this working for someone else in a much different time zone. So the formula, is take your local timezone and add 8 to it. Example, we are eastern US, so that is GMT-5, add 8 and we set our account settings with GMT+3. All timestamps have been good. IF you are in GMT+1, set your account to GMT+8. I don't know what other implications this might have, but I haven't noticed any ill effects yet. If this works, please let everyone know. If it doesn't work, let me know and I will stop telling people this. Also, see this thread that deals with the same topic.
  3. I am in the eastern US, (GMT-5) and that is what time my device is set to. Because the server is in GMT-8, my logs are always 3hrs off, so I fudged my account settings, saying I was in GMT+3, and my fieldnotes show up with the 'right' time now. I haven't seen any ill-effects of this, but I believe it might have something to do with what day/time your PQ's run. (FYI, submit a field note, leave it in the queue. Change your timezone, check your field note queue and the time has changed. You can trial and error this.)
  4. I agree this would be nice. It is a pain to load the entire list, just so it can be deleted. I remember one of the earlier versions of this app had it too. If I remember, it was removed because it wasn't intuitive, or something like that. I find that strange since many other applications use the 'swipe' for initiating a delete.
  5. I tried running two PQs from a public bookmark, and they haven't come in yet (been a few hours since checking the box). I have been able to run a different PQ based on location/radius/find-status and it came back in only a few minutes. Then I went to the public bookmark list, created a new PQ from it, and it generated just fine within minutes of requesting. Just wanted to share my experience.
  6. Vista running firefox, uploaded ~115k images to TB log from a week ago, didn't work Saturday, worked fine today (Same images, same log)
  7. I suppose I will add another "Me too" log. Was able to upload several pictures to cache logs, but not to TB dropped logs. Haven't tried other forms of TB logs.
  8. I have a bunch more field notes, and the "you have more field notes, click here to view them" pops up after I have made a log out of a field note, but still no general banner whenever I have field notes. My elementary programming brain is looking at the source code of the profile page, and I see something about FNPW, and how that gets set to a cookie named FNPW, but there is also some conditions about it being != undefined, which I take to be that it is defined and then they set some FieldNotesProfileWidget parameters. But when looking at the cookies in the list, I don't see any FNPW, how do I make a cookie? I don't think it is possible... so... Where does GS generate this cookie? I know it seems like a lot of trouble, but I really liked the banner! And now that I am so involved, I really want to know!
  9. You sent a personal email explaining the TB logging procedure, and it didn't click with this newbie. I doubt that a pop up would have helped them either. It might help jog the memory of a more experienced cacher, but I don't think the annoyance factor is worth it.
  10. I wouldn't want an extra pop up window to weed through, especially since I find myself moving a TB is less often than logging the cache. But from the other thread mentioned by Crew153, I would agree fully with one comment/request about being able to drop a TB when editing a log already posted. As for prompting to pick up TBs and the like, I would like to second something already mentioned here, that a list of the names usually isn't sufficient enough to know which one you actually picked. I often have to enter the unique TB ID before I know which one out of the list is the one that I actually picked up. And if you picked a couple from a couple different caches, currently you don't need to know which one came from where, and forcing you to enter the ID at the same time as a found log would complicate the pickup process. The only benefit I see of having a pop up warning, is that there might be more people noticing that the online inventory doesn't match the physical inventory and more bugs get properly reported as missing. Then again, I suppose the opposite could be true, and more could be improperly reported as missing.
  11. As far as I know, you can not copy a bookmark from someone else. But almost as good, you can create a PQ from their bookmark. I guess it depends on what you are hoping to do with the bookmarked caches whether or not this is worthwhile.
  12. Cool! Some hidden cookie causing trouble? I can deal with that. Thanks for the info, uhh... but... hmm.... I don't see any FNPW in the cookie list. I first viewed the cookies with just the firefox page info, didn't see it there, then tried the cookie monster, didn't see it there, either with the "use 2nd level domain names" or without. Since it sounds like you are suggesting it is a cookie setting, I deleted all cookies, submitted a field note, and I still do not see the banner up top. I find it hard to believe it is a cookie setting, because the banner disappeared across platforms and software programs (firefox & IE, home PC, wife's mac laptop, work PC, etc) Did it work for you Chrysalides?
  13. I don't think so. I do remember needing to dismiss it after submitting all field notes. Are you saying, that if I did dismiss it, and there were still field notes, that something got set to not display the banner ever again? Thanks for the link on the other GM script, but since sometimes I am using a different computer without GM, I would rather just have the banner back.
  14. I have been submitting field notes only recently, but have really enjoyed that feature. Shortly after starting to use this feature, a banner feature was added to the top of the "my profile" page when new field notes were available. Except for the fact that once they were all submitted, it seemed to stay there until you forced it closed, (minor issue) this worked great. Recently (I can't be sure when, we haven't had time to go caching lately) it seems this feature has disappeared. Sure the field notes are still available, but finding the correct link along the sidebar isn't as nice, and I really miss the banner on top for a quick click. A search in the forum for "field notes" didn't turn up any other requests for this, or reports of this missing. Am I just missing something, or this feature was deemed unworthy? (BTW I am generally viewing GC.com on a windows PC, running the latest Firefox 3.6.3, sometimes with greasemonkey, sometimes without, and once as a test viewed GC.com through IE8 with the same results.)
  15. We started caching together, and I am definitely more hooked/addicted/ridiculous than she is. She enjoys getting out there, but scolds me for wanting to do every EVERY one, even the LPC's. It is good to have her along to talk reason sometimes when I go overboard. She used to ask "what do you want to do this weekend" Now she knows, and the common question has been changed to "where are we going caching this weekend?" And any trips to visit friends and family is accompanied with "how many do you have planned along the way?" Since our screen name refers to both of us, (and I would be jealous if she went without me) I don't go it alone. We all know it ISN'T about the numbers, but we need something to brag about, and since our numbers aren't all that impressive, we brag about the fact that ALL of our finds are done together (*two CITO events I did solo, but philanthropy trumped our 'together' clause, and sure a few LPC's I did while she was sleeping in the car, but she was within 20ft, and couldn't anyone figure out an LPC in their sleep?) Caching is really a great activity to get closer with your spouse. There are some times that a cache trip has provided a lot of insight into each others lives than the typical dinner and a movie date night would ever have offered. Ditto thanks for bumping this and bringing it to my attention.
  16. Geocide? Did you know there is a form for that? And a cache too!
  17. I have to laugh at the irony of the misspelling That makes two of us... I too have to laugh at the misspelling, and often feel my inner grammar-Nazi flare up. Now back to the topic... Looking at the cache guidelines, I see Could the alleged log be thought of as 'off topic' and therefore deemed deletable by the CO? Or more likely just falls into the general forum guidelines "be nice" and therefore a higher authority than the CO, as represented by a reviewer, was tasked to do the clean up. Always nice to know a bit more to the story, and it seems everything is in order here.
  18. I have seen this a few times and don't really understand it. I suppose it isn't my time spent doing all the retroactive thing so I shouldn't care, but since it is on the table... It is as if they are racking up the miles just so they can see the total distance traveled between caches, but this is an available stat through ItsNotAboutTheNumbers, and I would imagine other stat calculators without using a TB. Dipping someone elses TB to be able to write a good log, especially concerning completing a TB goal is a good practice IMHO.
  19. Interesting that a reviewer has done the deletion, I know cache owners have the power, and since they are notified at every log and in charge of maintaining the cache both online and in the field they should have this power. Not sure why a busy reviewer would take the time to go out of their way to do that unless there is more to the story, and of course there is. One of my logs was deleted by the cache owner without warning, several weeks after posting, and I was using it as a part of two different challenges (including a 29day find streak). In addition to mentioning the challenges that we were working on I mentioned in the log that when we got to the site, I was initially worried that the "UP" in the title meant we had to climb, but looking at the 1.5/1.5 rating was reassured it was not and the find was quick after that. Apparently that upset the CO, so he deleted it. I simply emailed him asking why, and then relogged with a simple statement concerning our hopes of fulfilling a couple challenge requirements, and mentioning nearly nothing of our experience with the cache itself. We kept our PM, didn't worry about cache sabotage, qualified for the challenges, and kept on cachin!
  20. That sounds like an AWESOME idea! Do it! Do it! Sadly it is a long way from MI to MA, but we could plan a geo-trek.
  21. Not 'creepy' at all. Sometimes a bit uncomfortable searching through someones yard, but we have done several, and from our experience a lot of times these have been the more unique caches that would have been too difficult to maintain if hidden elsewhere. These have included (but are not limited to) a nano drilled into a tree and camouflaged with textured paint, a mailbox that was a huge Tiki pole, a large drum painted up to look like a 3ft tall film container, a 6ft(+?) long ammo can (already referenced earlier), a hanging bird house that required following the hanging rope to lower and get to the logbook, and a fake fire hydrant. Heck, we even did one that was INSIDE an apartment building. It was a TB resort, and we knew for sure that they wouldn't get muggled in there. Most of these stated the private property situation, and others may have been more enjoyable had they stipulated such but we have always had fun, even if we felt a little out of place. If we got too uncomfortable, we would have moved on, but I can't remember any instances where that took place. Maybe there should be an attribute which would allow for easy filtering through pocket queries.
  22. Any luck with this? I recently tried signing up for a few different forum wide notifications and got nothing. Took a while to change settings from daily digest to immediate notification, and I still got nothing. I did subscribe to a specific topic within a forum, and indeed got those emails. So I am lost on this too.
