  1. What about the one that is linked above your post? I read that entire thread and it doesn't seem to violate any ToS and seems like it works. Am I missing something? It seems like the app allows you to complete a Wherigo but not "unlock the cartridge". What is the difference between logging a find on geocaching.com and unlocking a cartridge on Wherigo? Can I get the final coords to finish a Wherigo without "unlocking the cartridge"? It now says the app has been removed from the market. Maybe it did violate the terms of use? Don't know. As of this morning I can still find it in the market. You should find it when you search geocaching. I believe it may depend on what version of Android you are running. I have Android 2.2 I've yet to try it out though. There are only a couple Wherigo caches in my area and I've done them both. When I get some time I may go out and redo one just to try it out on my phone. Cheers!
  2. I know. Normally I wouldn't respond but this one annoyed me enough I had to respond just once. fuzzbuket is not including his email with his messages so I had to respond to him through his profile page. I figured if he wasn't going to send his email address, it was only fair that I didn't include mine.
  3. And I just got the email a second time. I must be special!
  4. I just received the same email. I'm guessing that someone is trolling the forums because tonight is the first time I've logged on in a couple of weeks. (I hate real life sometimes. It gets in the way ) So I'm thinking it's not a coincidence. I also forwarded the email on to Groundspeak. Of course, not before I replied to fuzzbuket acknowledging his/her helpfulness. Hey, it's 2:30 in the morning, I'm at work and cranky enough as it is without getting that self-righteous carp. Hope to get back out on the trails soon. Cheers!
  5. Princess Auto is usually a good spot for ammo cans. They usually range in price from about $7 to $16 generally.
  6. It appears that this cache did start out as a larger container but after being muggled a few times the owner turned it into a logless micro. From the cache page: The cache was placed in 2002 and according to the logs, became a micro in December of 2006.
  7. Hmmm... I don't know about you, but I think I can tell the difference. Trash Geocache Can you spot the difference?
  8. This topic rears it's head in the forums every so often and it makes me wonder where the misguided sense of entitlement comes from? While geocaching is a game, it is to Groundspeak, a business. And businesses are there to make money. That's what they do. Do you go to a golf course and demand to know what they do with your green fees? Groundspeak has offered, for sale, Premium Memberships for $30/year or $10/3months. And with that fee you get this GC.com Memberships. Many of us have paid for that Premium Membership and said, "That's a great value." Some have not. The upside is you can still play the game even if you don't want to pay. Try doing that on a golf course. Yes, these days using smartphones you can do somethings to play for free and reduce the need for a Premium Membership. If that's what you want to do, so be it. However, and this is just my opinion, in a years time, I will still be here. You will not. I'd even be willing to wager a Premium Membership on it. Like I said, just my opinion. Take it for what it's worth. Cheers!
  9. As t4e stated, FTF is not an official stat that is tracked through GC.com. You won't get anything about it when you download the .GPX file. You will have to go into the CacheStats program you are using and mark it as a FTF yourself. It's been quite awhile since I used CacheStats myself, but I'm pretty sure you can do it. Hope this helps some. Cheers!
  10. Personally, I don't think the cache would get approved. Keystone really seems to give the most definitive answer there. But on a side note, even if you could put a cache there, why would you want to? Everytime someone logged it, it would just be a constant reminder of the incident. If it's causing you that much stress, why would you do that to yourself? You had a bad customer service experience at a restaurant. Never go back there again, forget it and move on. Go find some geocaches and take your mind off things.
  11. Will mobiles dominate handheld GPS? I think the answer is 'not for anyone who really wants a GPS'. Look at your outdoor gear outfitters like REI and the like. Are they selling mobile phones? No. Why do you think that is? Someone who wants a GPS for being outdoors, is not going to go shopping for a mobile phone. Alot of people may seem to be using GPS on their phones but it's not because they wanted a GPS. It's because they wanted a phone and it happened to have a GPS on it. Just my two cents. Cheers!
  12. I don't get it? What's the point of hiding a cache if you don't want to hear about when people find it? Maybe that's just me? To answer your question, no, you cannot turn off the notifications on your caches. That's part of being a cache owner. Those emails let you know what is happening with your cache. Not everyone will post a "needs maintenance" when they encounter a problem with your cache. They will just include it in their found log. Realistically, after the initial first finds you will most likely see a dramatic decrease in the amount of traffic you cache gets. Maybe a find every couple of days. It's not like you will be completely flooded with emails. Best of luck with your caches. Cheers!
  13. Unfortunately, webcam caches are no longer published on GC.com. From the Guidelines You may try Waymarking. I believe they have a webcam section, but I'm not 100% sure on that.
  14. Sure thing. The tutorials are flash videos and go through some step by step processes. GSAK - First Steps and some more advanced stuff here GSAK - Cool Stuff If you need anything else just ask.
  15. Yes, GSAK will upload all the info for caches. It includes cache name, coordinates, difficulty, terrain, owner, date placed, last found and the hint (up to 50 characters). As well it will include any child waypoints associated with the cache (parking coords, trailhead, etc.) But those will show up like a cache and take up the space of a cache out of your 200 maximum per geocache file. I don't generally include the child waypoints for caches when I upload them. I use CacheMate for paperless caching and they are normally listed on the cache page. If I really need them then I manually enter them as a POI. It may sound confusing at first but it's really quite simple once you've done it a couple of times. If you need, my local geocaching site has some great simple tutorials on GSAK that I can share with you. Hope this helps some. Cheers!
  16. First thing that comes to mind is SD card. It could be the difference between looking in internal memory or the SD card? Other than that, you've got me stumped too. However I've never used MapSend to load caches. I've always used GSAK. GSAK will export the correct file format and then it's a matter of just dragging and dropping into the Geocache directory. If I can think of anything else I'll let you know. Cheers!
  17. I think they are alright to use for a redirect stage of a multi-cache. I'd never use one as the actual cache though. However, I have found quite a few that are used as caches. 9 times out of 10 the log is wet. I always wonder what the owner was thinking when they placed the cache. Cheers!
  18. The AAA battery adapter should just snap out. You gently pull it down by the top of it. It's a snug fit but it will come out. Once you've got that out you will have access to the sd card. There will be a tab that says push. Then the sd card will pop up and you can slide it out. Once you are done with that, then the Li-ion battery will fit right in. Here is a link to the eXplorist 500 manual. It doesn't mention the AAA battery adapter because that was an after-thought by Magellan. It does show the sd card though. Hope this helps some. Cheers!
  19. Did the recent site updates break Prime Suspect's scripts again? I just noticed Log Maximizer and Waypoint Finder aren't working for me anymore. Has anyone else noticed this or is it just me? Cheers! *EDIT* Nevermind. It was just me. I see they have been updated again since the last update. My bad. Thanks again guys for these great tools.
  20. That's possible. I didn't have a TB in my inventory at the time and couldn't test it. I can now. I'll issue an update if I find a problem. I'm seeing the same thing. Is there an update for this or do I need to do something on my end? Thanks to both Prime Suspect and Lil Devil for their work on these great greasemonkey scripts. Cheers! Thanks for the reminder. I've fixed that now. I just uploaded to the site. Just re-install, and all should be good. Here's the link to the page. Thanks Prime Suspect. Much appreciated.
  21. I'm also looking forward to seeing an official android app from gc.com. At least I hope I can see it. Canada still does not have access to paid apps through Android Market. Until then, CacheMate is my app of choice. I've tried GeoBeagle and GCDroid but still prefer CacheMate.
