  1. I disagree with the OP.. Seekers need to do the research.. In this day of in hand info there is no excuse for being lazy.. I have done more than a few out of town caches and not had any problems.. You can use Google maps, Mapquest, and jdmcox for starters..
  2. I have a Garmin MAP76. A friend emailed me some tracks from his GPS. The file extensions are: MPS,XMC,TPO, and GDB.. Can anyone tell me if these can be inported to my Garmin and how? Thanx
  3. I lost a Magellan Meridian Gold sno-mobiling.. I also lost a good camera.. Look at this as an opportunity to upgrade..
  4. Seriously... no offense intended here, Zilla, but 80 finds in 8 years is not exactly a "cache findin fool" But still... no training, huh? That is impressive that he finds any. My dog "refound" exactly one cache. I had rehidden it after signing, got a phone call, and as I was on the phone, my dog comes up and retrieves the cache. Doesn't quite count now, does it? LOL! Yeah well he has a 100% find rate when I do take him. And I do take offense at your statement.. I do not cache to keep score.. But I have been through 5 GPS units since they were first released for sale to the public...
  5. My Cairn Terrier , "Bubba', Is a cache findin fool.. No training he just finds em.. My take is that he smells the scent of previous cachers and follows it to the cache.. Many times I have just watched where he is hunting when close to the cache, and there it is..
  6. Buy a good compass.. I take a bearing on the cache from say 100 yards out and look for what is on that line.. If I get close and the GPS keeps spinning, I expand my search.. Look for things that are out of place like rocks in front of a hole, or something that doesn't look natural..
  7. I have cached for years with no internal maps...
  8. As far as I know an english version will work in China.. It has an english menu.. As noted above there is away to manually enter waypoints, by editing.. I do it all the time.. IMO since you are in China I am guessing that the units there are in Chinese... I would think that the only difference in a Chinese GPS and an English one is the language..
  9. Thanx for clearing that up... As for the compass, I suspected the S models had a better compass system.. I wish I had known the differences before I purchased a new unit.. Oh well my fault for not doing enough research.. For GeoCaching the unit works great putting me right on. It is a bit annoying about the compass though.. Thanx again for the replies..
  10. I am not new to GPS's but am a new owner of a MAP76Cx... Just wondering what the D on the sat strength bars mean? I have WAAS turned on, but how do I know if I am recieving a WAAS sat? And lastly, the compass screen on my MAP76Cx doesn't seem as responsive [in GoTo mode] as the one on my old MAP76S.. Any reason? Thanx in advance.
  11. Ok I found the track in the routes section. Now can anyone tell me if I start navigation of this route will it appear on the track screen to follow?
  12. I think I have the track log on.. Lemme look and see if I can figure it out.. I looked in saved tracks but the only ones htere are ones I made using the GPS and saved..
  13. I have the Garmin Map76S, and have been trying to load tracks to it from my desktop.. I am using Terrain Navigator, and it says the tracks are sent and the Garmin says they are recieved.. Now where do I go to find the tracks in the Garmin and display them for use?? I have looked in saved tracks, etc etc..
  14. Me? I work in an eraser recycling plant.. We take all the old, used pencil, and art gum erasers and re-cycle them into new ones.
  15. I found the sliding gate, but my cable connector has no groove in it.. I looked at this earlier, but am thinking I have an older version of the cable, a I bought it before the Meridian was made and was using it on a 320.. .... Does your cable have the groove? Mine doesn't .. And to even get it in the hole I had to trim the little wings on the sides, because it wouldn't fit at all..
  16. I have a Meridian Gold and last fall purchased a vehicle mount bracket for it.. The one with three suction cups.. I have used it before, but today I tried to connect my cable so I could run the GPS on the cig lighter cord.. I can't figure out how to get the cable connected using the bracket. Is there a special trick to this?? I have connected the cable before, but not using the bracket.. Is there a different cable that I need to use ?
  17. Thanks for the replies.. I thought I would need a bigger card to load maps, but wasn't sure.. Now, I just need to generate some disposable funds..
  18. Ok, I just got my 3rd GPS, a merigold, and am wondering if I need to upgrade the memory card to load the Mapsend Topo Maps?? I haven't bought the software yet and am wondering if it is even worth it? Comments?
  19. Lately I have noticed that the location map at the top of the cache page is entirely in the wrong state?? Seems to be the newer caches and then not all of them. Some are shown as far away as Washington state. The map at the bottom seems correct, it's just the small one at the top of the page..
  20. Cheapest I've found is right Here...
  21. Cheapest I've found is right Here...
  22. I haven't called this place yet, but will soon as I too am in the market for a new unit.. Cheap GPS place
  23. I just gave my Maggie 320 to my son and am now looking at the Meridian series as a replacement.. Question #1: Is it worth it to load the Magellan topo maps into the unit? Question #2; The base unit has 2MB mem, Gold/Platinum 16MB mem.. Do you need to add a card just to install the topo map stuff on the Gold/Platinum?? Question #3; Any current users out there who can give some likes/dislikes? Thanx! cjsheely@sweetwater.net zilla
  24. Actually, I knew that. I just didn't want to draw unecessary attention to our sport.. Although as I think about it, these guys are probably cool with Geocaching. Then Again, maybe I'm just being paranoid over nothing.
