  1. Well done! Seasider We are not retreating - we are advancing in another Direction!
  2. Let us know what help you need, Natty. We are not retreating - we are advancing in another Direction!
  3. Was about to say yes when I realised that you have chosen the first saturday of the footy season and a certain Manchester team have a derby game! Seasider We are not retreating - we are advancing in another Direction!
  4. I think it would be best to avoid the bank holiday which is the 23rd/24th. Somewhere near Warrington might be best bearing in mind that Ranger Nigel is one of us and looks after a couple of parks in that area. One of Ranger Nigel's parks Ranger Nigel's other park Seasider We are not retreating - we are advancing in another Direction!
  5. I did notice and had wondered why no-one had mentioned anything! I just assumed you had celebrated at HCC. Congrats! Seasider We are not retreating - we are advancing in another Direction!
  6. Great stuff! Seasider We are not retreating - we are advancing in another Direction!
  7. God bless America! Seasider We are not retreating - we are advancing in another Direction!
  8. Just checked the polling register and there are 2 people with very similiar names and one with exactly my name in Lytham (I of course ticked the anonymity box and do not appear). I'm happy now - they will get burgled instead of me! Seasider We are not retreating - we are advancing in another Direction!
  9. Thanks for the explanation. I can appreciate the problems and thanks for a great search engine! Seasider We are not retreating - we are advancing in another Direction!
  10. Hmm! Maybe the stats page is having a wobbly moment. Just did a check on Lancashire and Yorkshire and it lists one of my caches 'Lock,Stock & Hodder' as being near Carnforth in North Yorkshire. Carnforth is 15-20 miles from the cache near Morecambe Bay and the locals will be spitting feathers to see themselves described as Yorkies! Rest seem ok though - wonder why the map thinks Carnforth is in Yorkshire? Seasider We are not retreating - we are advancing in another Direction!
  11. Wasn't on! Seasider We are not retreating - we are advancing in another Direction!
  12. What a load of nonsense! Go ex-directory and get your name removed from the polling register if you think this is a likely scenario. Seasider We are not retreating - we are advancing in another Direction!
  13. My favourite is Fossil Transfer by Kevin. Fossil Transfer The cache is located in a rock face high above the wonderful Monsal Valley in Derbyshire. Kevin was economical with the terrain rating - it involves a very steep initial ascent from the valley up a dirt path and then continues up a steep grass path to the top which is a nice surprise for most cachers (unless I missed the correct way up)! There are lots of hiding places in the fissures and a fair percentage of cachers fail to find the cache - Hmm actually the difficulty rating of 2 is economical as well! A must do cache. 14. Looking forward to hearing it! Seasider We are not retreating - we are advancing in another Direction!
  15. Maybe there were caches near Liverpool but they all got nicked! Ok - stereotypical jokes out of the way - I can count 9 active traditional & multi caches on Merseyside. If you do a 'nearest search' on Albert's Famine cache you will see which ones these are. There are also a lot more slightly further afield in Lancashire, Cheshire, Greater Manchester and North Wales. I don't know anything about electronic maps for GPS as I have a cheapo Etrex! But if you want paper maps then the maps I use are the Philip's Street Atlas series which can be purchased from the local petrol station or newsagents (here in the UK). They have their sheets marked using the British Grid which is very useful and cost £10. Seasider We are not retreating - we are advancing in another Direction! 16. Phew! The thermometer read 31.5C (89F)yesterday in the park close to the Oscar's Prowl cache in Bolton, Greater Manchester. Has anyone cached where it is REALLY hot? The desert perhaps or Death Valley? Seasider
  17. I did 350+miles a couple of months ago on a tour which started in Great Manchester and went to Merseyside to Cheshire to North Wales to Shropshire and back up to Lytham (Lancs) via Chester. Started off about 8am at Simon's Lodge (Bury) and at ended 10pm at Steps in the Wall (Chester) from memory. About a dozen bagged in total I think. Also I did a north east tour which started out in Lytham and went via Leeds up the M1 to Darlington and back across via the A66(not sure) to the M6 and down again. 300+ miles?? I've had a couple of good trips to the lakes which must be 250ish round trip - bagging about 10 caches each time. And I must have done 250ish miles last Tuesday when I bagged 16 (20 visited in total - 2 were too busy + 2 no finds) around Leeds. Since, like Pharisee, I like to do a good few when I venture out (current average 6.1 per trip according to the stats) I regularly do high mileage especially as the caches get ever further away. Indeed, it is worth staying over on some trips - I cached to Scarborough on the east coast a couple of months ago then stayed over at friends and cached back the next day. Wait a minute... are there any hotels near Bracknall?! Seasider
  18. A break definitely renews the enthusiasm. I did 200 caches in my first 6 weeks (including 64 locationless ones) and then didn't hunt another for a month and a half. During my break I spent a week up in the Scottish Islands without even thinking about say the 7 caches hidden on the small island of Bute which are easy to get at in a day. June is a month of BBQs and parties (birthdays etc.)for me so I became unfit again and decided the best way to get fit was to start caching again! I thoroughly enjoyed a good day out touring the lakes a couple of weeks ago on my first cache hunt after the break. But it felt strange finding my first cache above Penrith, sort of deja vu, just like the first one I ever found! I'm back into top gear now and have done 39 since my return, including 16 on Tuesday (nothing wrong with endurance caching!). I fancy a bit of a climb today so am off to Ribblesdale & Wharfedale to bag some hill/mountain caches. Tally ho! Seasider
  19. If you are in Staffordshire then you have good access to the M6 and M1 which opens up Blackpool & Leeds. 'Emmerdale Rock' near Leeds is huge and could easily accommodate Geogus and many similar sized friends. 'Blackpool's First Cache' is a large plastic sweet bottle which could also fit Geogus quite nicely. Seasider
  20. Ho hum. I'm on my travels again at the end of this week and early next so I shall pass the 200 target for 'proper' caches very soon anyway - after 8 weeks rather than 6! However, having read the other internecine discussion threads I'm wondering whether to bother. Seasider
  21. My favourite cache is 'Walking with Dinosaurs' by Chuffer which involved a lovely walk on Scarborough's rocky beach to find dinosaur footprints followed very closely by kevin's 'Fossil Transfer' in Monsal Dale, Derbyshire which had me clinging to a rock face searching for a cache which is not easy to find! My least favourite are all those where I find the cache is missing or trashed - "End of the Line" by Red Admiral was the first one I found damaged which was only my 6th cache. Seasider
  22. Out of the 200 I think that 135 are locational caches and 65 are locationless caches. I've tended to go after the locationless ones when either it's a bank holiday & busy or the weather is poor. However, to find say a working watermill or a lovers leap takes a bit of research and still involves a good drive to photograph it - plus it's a pain uploading pictures on to the site. It took me just as long on Friday to ascertain which locationless caches were available, to research if any were within reasonable driving distance, to plan a route & then to photograph them as it did to find a similar number of locational caches the previous day on the way back from Scarborough! I estimate there are about 120 locationless caches (out of 314 total) which could be bagged in the UK - so there is plenty for everyone to go at! Seasider
  23. Many thanks! I did quite a few last week and have only just finished updating all my logs - my record does now show 200. It's time I hid a few so keep an eye on the North West map over the next few days! Maybe see some of you at the Northern Cache Bash. Seasider
