  1. forgive me if i'm wrong....if the virus was here, would it automatically have downloaded to my computer? therfore...if i was reading this AFTER the warning....wouldn't it have been too late to prevent it?
  2. thats the first thing that came to my mind too you FOUND a machete? in the woods? decided to pick it up and take it with you?.........well that was stupid...add trespassing, no wonder some people look down on geocaching, why couldn't you go back in the direction you approached the cache from?
  3. Fizzgig! this belongs in the "geocaching in the movies!" thread
  4. and now i must watch The Shawshank Redemption!
  5. ive just had to put trainspotting on now! cheers! "I've sprung a few leaks, but the FTF was worth it!"
  6. "better comb the hills for this one lads!"
  7. i hate the band wagon people here tend to jump on when one person sees something wrong ive had locations stolen from me but thats just the way it is, time to try find a different location or wait for theirs to be archived so that you can move back into the spot i don't think it's very constructive to have several other members find this the perfect time to have a go at someone when enough has already been said.
  8. ill maybe give mine another few weeks, if nothing shows possibly try send out the copy tag with a note
  9. haha your name could be changed to "sniffdogpoo" good idea thought, my one and only TB has been in another cachers hands for over a month, sent one email so far and no reply
  10. maybe when i hit 1000 finds, oh well, only 950 or so to go
  11. Stinging nettles grow everywhere in England and make summertime caching a nightmare. We are lucky to not have to worry about snakes & spiders, even poison ivy but i think the nettles come close! The trouble is that they almost completely die off for the winter with not much trace, so new caches which are placed in wintertime are likely to be stuck in the middle of a field of nettles come summertime, they smell horrible too! a nasty musty smell to them, not very nice at all. Once stung your skin swells up into a white rash whih eventually disappears but can feel a bit sensitive to brushing for a few days afterwards (a bit like having splinters and catching them on your clothes). Common thing to do in England is find some good size dock leaves & rub them on the stings. I'm sure i read somewhere that the ancient romans used to brush their bodies with stinging nettles before going into battle because it made them feel quite warm, not too sure about that fact though
  12. GRRR! would have loved to come to this for my first event but i had a dentist appointment booked on thursday, couldnt cancel or they would have cancelled all my others too!! got a letter through today saying the appointment has to be rescheduled aw well, maybe next time can't drive anyway!
  13. hehe wait until you start doing the Drunken Bee Dance, embarrassing in a busy town centre, I'll tell you that much!
  14. At least it was only a micro! i have a cache in aquiet, but high risk area because it isn't very well hidden, planning to go back after my holiday to try camo it a bit better, once winter hits the location will be pretty bare
  15. just to clarify we recently bought some of these from a shop and the instructions on the back state it is cornflour
  16. I had someone who had only been caching for about 3 days, say that one of my caches were in poor location (He DNF By the way), and he had less than 10 finds under his belt! It's quit a devious cache which has left people looking in the complete wrong places until they have a rethink and find it fairly simple! i wouldn't be so upset if it asnt for the fact that the first cache he found i sent them a personal email of congratulations on their first cache, then they have the nerve to call it a poor location!
  17. look on "that auction site"....also various others "Geocaching For Dummies" anyone?...sorry but it's already been done, IMHO theres enough info on the "Getting Started" page of the Geocaching website, why anyone would consider buying a book is beyond me
  18. i'm going to spain a week on saturday, i cant drive which is why i made the topic "chorley area"...its hard me to travel too far. anyway, does anyone have any geocoins/travelbugs that need to get over to Spain? i've been looking at a few places we are planning on visiting and (if she'll let me) do a bit of caching to so i could maybe drop them off! We may also be visiting Gibraltar so if we get enough time i could drop one of two off at the monkey cache! Cheers
  19. my first ever cache find (should have been my 6th) happened by coincidence. it was the night i first heard of Geocaching so decided to do a postcode search...wow! caches within 5 minutes of my house! It is a 6 part series in my village called "Old Whittle Trail". i understood the instructions, look for the first 5 caches which will give you clues to piece together for the location of the 6th "Bonus Cache". I read the cache description for the first part which describes some steps...there are a few possible "steppy" locations around, i didn't have my gps at the time so went the ones what sprang to my mind first (without looking at the map, which is spot on) it took me to a location a few hundred metres away from the true location of the first cache. I got there, a bit of searching and i found the cache!....only trouble was that i was part 6, not realising until i had already signed the log as my first, i felt a bit silly but also very lucky! What an introduction eh?
  20. Also try Heavens Above not quite as flashy but you can set home location and it will tell you what & when you will be able to see the satellites. Iridium Flares are great!
  21. great stuff!! .... my first cache find was placed by Citizen Smith!
  22. I had a good idea planned out nice series of caches to go in a park up here in the north west of England.... I checked the website for the unnamed park (not to give way any usernames) to see if they would mind me placing a few caches nearby...suggesting the wardens check my hides so it doesn't interfere with the wildlife....etc... Anyway, it looks like someone has beaten me to it with a few traditionals there...i didn't get a reply to my email so was going to visit in person...thing whats really got me though is they they live in the SOUTH....London apparently and a maintenance trip would be over 150 miles! theres only 3 that they have placed but i had 5 or 6 in mind and i don't want to crowd the place...just seems a waste that my idea has been wasted on 2 micros and a "small" when i had a few ammo boxes lined up and some puzzles to boot!
  23. Looks to me like these are test areas for new farm equipment, ploughed fields look like that with the neat lines.... thats my guess anyway
