  1. I found no mention of it in previous logs. As for description, it is a World Trade Center Remember coin with an eagle and the towers with 9*11*01 on one side and REMEMBER and a cityscape with the towers on the back. On the back is also printed with GEOSWAG COIN & PIN CLUB * SEPTEMBER 2007, along with the usual trackiable at geocaching.com and the tracking number.
  2. I traded geocoins at one cache site and when returning home to log it I find that it hasn't been activated. I would like to put this coin in circulation and give it a goal, but I don't know how to do that without the activation code. Is there someplace that I can e-mail to get this done? or is it just destined to be a collector piece.
  3. In my sons troop we did an overnight camping trip with geocaching to go along with orienteering. The troop leader and I had gone to the camping area a few weeks before and set up a geocaching course. The week before the trip I went to their weekly meeting and explained the uses of and how to use a GPSr. Upon reaching the camping area the next we set up camp and explained what we were going to do the next day. There were 6 cache stations, we gave them the co-ordinates to the first one. They had to remember how to program the GPSr from the lesson the week before and put that information into the unit and perform a go-to operation. At each station was a camo'd film canister with co-ordinates to the next cache inside. Each team was given three sealed envelopes for each station with a hint in each one, if a hint is needed, you can open an envelope but it will cost your team a time penalty. The final station gave co-ordinates back to camp. Each group went out with an adult for supervision only. In the end the group with the fastest time, including penalties added, was declared the winner and awards were given. All scouts had a great time and every last one of them learned how to use a GPSr.
  4. Thanks to purchases made at Costco and their very customer oriented services. I am looking to purchase a new GPSr, with the forerunners being the Colorado and the Triton 2000. I am currently using a Magellan XL that I have been very happy with. The only problem is a Kirkland brand (Costco) battery leaked in it and now the unit has a short life expectency. I took it in and showed them, and hey, no problem, they are sending me a check to replace my XL, oh and go ahead and keep your exhisting unit. Gotta love Costco. So, Garmins Colorado, a bit more expensive to start with and I would have to buy mapping software also, but seems to be a very nice unit. Or Triton 2000, less expensive, and a touch screen sounds great to me. And I already own the Directroute software. But the reviews have been less than stellar, plus when will they come out with the firmware updates, and dealing Alibaba Mahamid, aka Mike or Steve, in their support division leaves me questioning that route. Plus, I can go to Joe's Sports and get another XL for free (thanks again Costco). I think I'll wait a bit longer and see what pans out, after all, my XL isn't dead yet. What would you do?
  5. My current GPSr is a Magellan Explorist XL. Now, having said that, I was waiting for the Tritons 2000 to come out because I wanted the 3 axis compass and a touch screen. I'm tired of having to deal with a toggle. But after reading all the poor reviews I'm back to waiting for those features to become available in a quality unit before I make the jump.
  6. After reading about the paperless caching, I asked for a pda of my own for Christmas. I have never used one before and am not particularly tech savvy, so I'm not sure exactly what is the next step to take. My wish was to be able to download somehow all my local area caches including cache info, recent logs, and any hints (just incase) to use in tandem with my Explorist XL.
  7. I am in the process of building a strip sea kayak, and came across a cache that had a new book titled Paddle Routes for Washington State. Couldn't have been a better find for me.
  8. Being a newbie at caching I don't know all the gadgets. I use a Magellen Explorist 600 GPSr and have seen a lot of mention of "going paperless". Having never had or used a PDA before, is this something as easy as just downloading selected files and transfering? I have seen the Z22's on E-Bay for about 50 bucks but know nothing about them. Can some of you with experience with these enlighten me? Thank You, NWFLYCASTER
  9. I like seeing other peoples signature items. I myself tie fishing flies and leave leave one of my own designes in any cache where they will fit. I spend a lot of time doing this as each one takes close to 15 minutes to make. I hope that some will be used and and would like to be e-mailed to hear how they liked it.
  10. I notice in a lot of FTF entrys that people mention that they received notification of a new cache. How do I get this service? I am already a premium member and would love to see when a new cache comes online.
  11. I am new to geocaching and also using a GPSr. I purchased an explorist XL by way of recommendation of store clerks. It seemed fine at first (with nothing to compair it to) but as I have used it and seen others in action I wish I had gotten something else. No auto-tracking which cheaper units seem to have is a big drawback. I purchased Mapsend's Direct Route on CD (can't even get it on SD card). Been trying to upload it for a week now and still nowhere, was told to uninstall and reinstall, then told the 2GB disc I purchased was the problem I needed another brand. All the while I have to get up early before work to talk to them on the phone as they are closed by the time I get home. Wish I would have known about this site before my purchase.
