  1. As mentioned above, 24K maps cover 100K map (higher draw order). So you have to turn off the 24K map in the map set up. Or you can get free (donations always appricited) 24K topo maps at gpsfiledepot.com
  2. Sounds like something was corrupt in internal memory. Deleting all gpx files should have reset this.
  3. They are included as a gpx file with your caches. Just load them both on your gps
  4. You can filter with GSAK for winter and then load 5,000 on the GPS.
  5. The answer is yes. But you can also load them as Custom POIs. If you place the gpx on the GPS, you can delete the waypoints. Custom POIs cannot be deleted (they have to be reloaded without the ones you no longer want) but you can have categories of POIs which is a big help if you have lots of them. Are you loading your caches as custom POIs????? The screenshots make it appear you are. Why would you do that instead of using the built in paperless caching?
  6. Not sure what you are quoting, but its in error. As long as a gpx file is in the \garmin\gpx\ folder you can name it whatever you want.
  7. MapSource will send maps to the newer GPSs, but it will not recieve waypoints. The waypoints should be stored in the garmin\gpx with a date in the filename of the gpx file. You can open the gpx with the waypoints in MapSource. You can also download waypoints in BaseCamp and then export them to MapSource. With the new BaseCamp beta, I have now mostly switched to using BaseCamp.
  8. Yea the 60csx screen is much smaller and lower resolution. Additionally, those screen shots are zoomed out. When you zoom in more, much more detail (maqny more contour lines) will show up.
  9. You are showing screenshots of scanned USGS 24K paper maps. Its a picture of a paper map. That means you would get pixilization if you tried to zoom in much. The topo maps at gpsfiledepot are not pictures of a map, they are vector maps. That means instead of a picture of a map, the map stores directions on how to draw lines, points, and polygons (like water). That means the map does not pixiliate no matter how far you zoom in and it draws expondentially faster than a picture map. The maps are gpsfiledepot are also much more up to date. They also tend to be much more accurate on topography and hydrology. There is some software that would allow you to view scanned USGS topos on your 60csx-but its hard to use, has lots of limitations, does not work well, and the gpsfiedepot maps are far superior. The 60csx has a small screen and low resolution. Thats probablly what your issue is. If I remember correctly, the maps look best at the 300 feet zoom. The maps there are really good (I make a bunch of them like My Trails which covers LA). The maps work much better on the newer units with a bigger screen, but they should work fine on the 60csx. Can you be more specific on what you are talking about? Post a screen shot from your GPS.
  10. As explained above, you need to rename the files. Another option is to use all my CO maps, not just my trails. You can run Citynavigator, My Trails, My POIs, CO Transparent TOPO, and Western LandOwnership all at the same time-they are all transparent overlays. Then you don't have to switch between CN and a topo map.
  11. IMG File (named gmapbmap.img, Basemap do not remove or rename gmapsupp.img, see my other post and gmaptz.img) time zone do not move or rename
  12. There is no way to tell if the GPS is reading from internal memory or the card whenyou are running the GPS. Keep all caches on the card and then you know they are all on the card. I use GSAk and load all my caches as geocaches.gpx on my card. When you send a mapset to your GPS or card, it will be in the \garmin directory and named gmapsupp.img You can rename the file as long as you keep it in the \garmin directory and keep the img extenstion. To keep things straight, I will load one mapset at a time and then rename it. I will send all of City Navigator to the card and rename the file City Navigator.img When I get a new update to CN, I delte the img from the card, send the new version, and then rename gmapsupp.img City Navigator.img Any other mapset I load I just rename gmapsupp.img to whatever the mapset is called. That way I don't have duplicates and I know what to delete when I update a mapset.
  13. PS, there are differnt kinds of card readers. Older ones will not read certian types of new cards - the bigger ones (4+ gig). Another reason to not use a card reader! And maps are placed by Mapsource and BasecaCAAMP in the \garmin\ directory on the GPS and card. They will have an extenstion of img.
  14. VERY BAD ADVICE!!!!!!!! That was the case for older Garmins that had a USB 1 connection. But for the OR 450, don't use a card reader. Plug the USB cord into your computer. It uses USB 2 so its just as fast as the card reader and you don't have to remove the card, put it in an adapter, and then in a reader (you could damage your card, the connections, or lose the card). When you use MapSourse (my preference) or BaseCamp to send the maps, you can select to send to the GPS or the card. Its an option on the send dialogue. It does not really matter if you put the maps on the GPS or the card. Make your decsion based on space requirements. ALWAYS PUT YOUR CACHES ON THE CARD! Never put them on the GPS. Sometimes the GPS will not import the caches correctly (its much rarer with the latest firmware but it still happens). When that happens, when you try to view a cache, the GPS will lock up and require you to remove the batteries. If you are out in the field without a computer to reload your caches, you are SOL if they are in internal memory. If this happens when they are loaded on a card, turn unit off, remove card, restart GPS, turn it off, replace card, then restart the GPS. Then the GPS will reload the caches. Here are some tutorials that you should review: http://www.gpsfiledepot.com/tutorials/how-to-open-maps-in-mapsource/ http://www.gpsfiledepot.com/tutorials/how-to-load-maps-on-my-garmin-gps-unit/ http://www.gpsfiledepot.com/tutorials/how-to-change-which-map-is-displayed-on-a-garmin-gps/
  15. Sounds like you are using Garmin's 100K topo maps. Go to gpsfiledepot.com and get much better maps. About the only time you run into the segment limit is when you try to load all of 100K topo. If you want the 100K topo (they are worth it for the DEM data) you are better off buying a T model as they have it with much fewer segments. There is some software out there that will combine the segment of the Garmin 100K map into much fewer segments so you can load it (but the process does not include the DEM data which the GPS can use for many functions like adding elevation to tracks-so I would not recomned it). However, you can get much better maps at GPSfiledepot.com for free (donations are appriciated).
  16. Back to the first question. What do you mean by seeing? Are you not seeing them on the screen or not seeing them in the map set up select maps? Unless a map is a transparent overlay, you can only see one map at a time. Some maps cover other maps. For example if you have City Navigator and a topo map loaded, CityNavigator covers the topo map, To see the topo map, you have to go to set up maps, select maps and turn off City Navigator.
  17. http://www.gpsfiledepot.com/tutorials/how-to-load-maps-on-my-garmin-gps-unit/ GSAK is the easiest way to manage caches and get them on your GPS
  18. You are not describing the issue very well, so I am not sure what your problem is. However, it sounds like you may have a dashboard issue. It sounds like you may be using the Geocaching Nearest when you should be using the Geocaching Active dashboard. The way you change it depends on which page you are using and its not clear which you are using.
  19. Its not the worlds greatest camera, but it takes pretty good pictures. But it can be extremly difficult to see what you are taking a picture of under certian lighting conditions. When you are looking at the GPS, you can tilt the screen to see it good, but when you are taking a picture, you cannot tilt the screen. However, the camera is waterproof, will put the lat and long on the picture, and will record the direction the camera is facing when you take a picture. I say it is well worth the extra cost.
  20. Actually there is no need to delete the geocache visits file. All it is is a record of which caches you have found and when you upload field notes, gc.com remembers which ones you have already uploaded. So they will not be loaded even if they are still in the file. You locations are probably garmin headquarters. They will eventually diaappear. Don't worry about it.
  21. However, you should be aware that file is simply a record of your finds. It does not affect what your GPS displays.
  22. I worry what will happen when the comsumer GPS get submeter accuracy. What fun will caching be if the GPS takes you exactly to the cache? What will be the challenge? It will be as difficult as doing the ET Trail or picking up lampposts. I for one think it was more fun back in the day before high sensitivity recievers and the numbetrs hounds takeover. Heck we had no paperless caching or even maps on GPSs. Back in the day, your GPS would normally get you in the right area (within 50 feet) and then you had to use your finding skills. So for lots of things, submeter accuracy will be great. I think it will be bad news for caching and make it even more a numbers game instead of about the hunt. When we get submeter commerical GPSs, perhaps gc.com could take the cords and randomly generate cords within 50 feet of the actual cache.
  23. It depends on what you want to mange. You need to be much more specific. It could even be you just don't know how to do it in BaseCamp. I too really liked MapSource, but BaseCamp is getting some nice features that are making me use BaseCamp much more than I used to.
  24. Reload your PQs. You cannot delete finds or caches. You have to load a fresh PQ that does not contain the ones you have found.
  25. You know what they say, when in doubt read the GPS's direction (and it will tell you DeLorome just averages). Aerial photos can be right on and they can be way off. But before anyone goes making scientifically valid claims about accuracy, you need to make sure you have a sound basis to make your claim. Its not that difficult. Even though the DeLorome does not have as good as waypoint averaging as the newer Garmins, if you go out to a spot once a day for a month and continue to average the spot, you will have something you can truly test accuracy with. You can even test the accuracy of aerial phots this way. If I take the cords I averaged for a month in my back yard and compare it to the Sept 2011 GoogleEarth aerial photos, It shows the photos off 1.5 feet. The April 2010 ahows 5 feet off. The next 3 dates do not have high enough resolution to tell. 2005 is about 10 feet off. 2002 is about 100 feet off and eveything older does not have high enough resolution to tell.
