  1. This is Icky, the other half of Abra cadaver. 25' is roughly 8 average sized adult steps. These are highly used hiking trails ( I know, seems like an oximoron, right?) Horse trails, walking trails, and some dog walking trails. Theres only so much you can do with heavy trafic and 8 steps. As I said in the other thread..... 1. Whats the point of getting in your car, driving 30-40 min. to a park, parking, walking for 40 min, just to find 1 cache? Look at it from an environmental point of view....if your into that kind of thing. 2. 99% of the people that went to find our caches loved the walk, liked the hides, and appriciated the numbers. 3. We knew the 25' rule, we took a shot, and lost. Now, any of our caches in 3 rivers will be no more then 8 steps off of the center line of a trail. I know, seems like a lame waste of time. But, as our local "geo-cop" pointed out..."If I ignore these caches, it sends a very bad signal to the rest of the area cachers that *** *** ******/****** *** condones the violation of the TRP rules. " Rules are rules and 25' (From center line) is 8 steps.
  2. WOW....seems like we should be involved in this as well, seeing as how it pretty much started about us. This is K!11shot from Abra Cadaver. The 3 Rivers topic caught my eye, and on I read...and it seems like we're still taking heat for wrecking your game, and wrecking your parks, and I'm not really sure where to go with this. At one point it almost sounded like someone was going to accuse us of being thieves, just because we didn't get our way. We pulled a BUNCH of our caches for a few reasons. Number 1 being spite I guess you could call it. But that was heat of the moment, and has passed now. Second reason... well with all the open space now, we expected to see some new ones placed... Especially wanted to see if the "cheated" party in question would place one. Not one new listing in those parks yet... So I'm thinking that we may go put those runs back together again, and we'll leave them just shy of the cap limit. If thats allright with everyone else... Now as far as the trail guidelines go, I'm curious, and hopefully Surfer Joe will respond to this as well... If there is a huge dead geobeacon like a fallen tree that stretches for 200 feet, and pretty much everything else is deadfall around it, is it really out of line to go off the trail for 150 feet along that same beacon? I mean, I understand the trample effect, and the need to avoid that, but what about the scenario I just Described? Would taking pictures of where you are AT and where you are going TO, maybe help stretch that 25 foot limit out a bit in some areas? Lookin' for some feedback here...
  3. Well Joe, what can we say? The conversation with Marlene that I had was completly different then what you're discribing. We have had several emails asking us why we archieved our caches, we directed them here. In an ongoing attempt to make everyone happy, it seems we should re-activate SOME of the caches....of course not the "GROSS VIOLATORS" We will keep said " GROSS VIOLATORS" archieved. Any cache that is more then 25' off center, will be archieved. Any other cache you can think of, for whatever reason, will be archieved. Chances are, somebody will complain about this approch as well. This really does seem like its harder then it should be. We just wanted to do some caching.
  4. you're probably right. But still, we are just trying to make this right.
  5. I really can't say this enough....we did what we were required to do. We filled out a permit WITH exact coordinates for each and every cache. Those permits were reviewed by 3 Rivers Parks. They were approved by 3 Rivers Parks. A list with all of the approvals was sent to the local reviewer. He reviewed and approved each and every one.
  6. Allright... this is K!11shot, the other half of Abra Cadaver. I wasn't going to even bother with my own response to all this, but, here ya go. First of all I had a long chat with Marlene this morning. Marlene is the one who runs the 3 Rivers Geo gig around here. I spoke with her at length about the "GROSSLY VIOLATING" caches that surfer joe referred to, and according to her, we are NOT ABUSING the placement guidelines. Out of the 40 some caches we placed in 3 different parks, less than 5 of those were past the distance requirements. She said if they were all like that, then we may have a problem. But 5 was far from abusing the policy. She then tells me how many people have been in the parks recently, and that we were doing a fine job of caching, and would like to see us continue to do what we have been doing. According to Marlene, the more caches we place, the more reason for people to visit their parks.More people visiting her parks apparently makes her very happy... Now, as far as the rest of the issues I've seen throughout this thread, well... where to start. As far as containers go... we generally do a pretty good job. 90% of our containers are hand camo painted, and clearcoated for the long run. We also have a few experimental containers in the mix. Now Wayfarer said that" one was even full of water"... I'm thinking to myself WOW noone has ever found a wet cache before, never made a maintenance post before? It seemed to me like she was just taking an extra shot at us, like we're not worthy to place a cache or something. Going out to fix a cache, or replace a container is no big deal, so throw something better at me than "oh a wet log, how unworthy". Now, as far as saturation... Did I miss something here? Do people not want things to find? Do they not want a cacher friendly half day walk to get a gaggle of caches without having to drive all over town? And as for memorable Caching Experiences... Go make one of our runs and you tell me... What you get is... A range of difficulty, for those with the kiddies in tow up to your FTF commando style hunts. You also get... a variety of containers to find, not just the same stale cache containers. And to round out each loop of ours, we add a couple custom built caches to end your day with. The Cadaver Cache series comes to mind, as well as cuttleflage, deadwood, twiggy, and the wizard staff. So... if these runs of caches we placed, with a few Super Sweet ones in each run, aren't good enough...what is? We tried to give some caches back to those who've allready done so much placing for the rest of us around here. I guess I thought it would have been a nice thing to do, especially for those who allready have 3000+ finds, and have probably found dadgum near everything in the metro allready. Guess I made a Mistake. As Far as "taking our toys and going home", well it's gonna be tough to continue this activity when your reviewer has a problem with you... everything has to go through Joe, and he informed us last week before this even started, that we shouldn't be out placing all these caches. Now if your reviewer says that to you... it's a personal thing. Otherwise why say it at all, why can't WE place caches? Would it be different if my name were King Boreas? Would I get this much grief then? You all tell me...
  7. *sigh* yes, Marlen W. at 3 rivers personally looked at the area, and approved each and every cache. If our local reviewer had asked before they were published, we would have gladly obtained what we needed. No such request was made. There not all archived. We left some that, with any good luck, nobody will have a problem with. I guess I see it differently, it's a free game....Do I need to defend or prove anything? Originally, someone said they felt "cheated" that the park was full. We did what we could do to make that right. As it turns out, that person had / has no intention of hiding anything. Sometimes you just can't win. Of course we will be retrieving them. I'm obviously not in this for the popularity, I like the exercise. Since we won't be placing anymore caches, as our local guy seems to have a problem with us, I would like to get a few more walks in.
  8. Theres only so many ways I can say " They(3 Rivers Parks) knew where EVERY single cache was." Where in the rules does it say we need to obtain or present speacial approval notes from the park managers?
  9. No, but one would hope that they can read a letter of approval from the park. I know if I was a reviewer who found a cache that I knew was in violation of a park rule I would archive it without hesitation. That is exactly what we did. To the letter.
  10. If it wasnt for our local reviewer saying either we could archieve them or he would, we wouldnt have. It's a game, we shouldnt have to defend our hides. That just doesnt seem worth the effort.
  11. In fact, in the spirit of keeping things fair and honest, I encurage anybody reading this to look at some of the things people post about our caches. Judge for yourself. http://www.geocaching.com/profile/?guid=28...0e-33bf4ad4028f Abra Cadaver.
  12. As it happens, 3 Rivers Parks DID know EXACTLY where every single cache within their parks were. The person in charge of approving the caches said she personally knew they were past the 25' mark, and she didnt have a problem with it. In fact she was rather fond of our efforts, and tried a couple of times to discurage us from archieving them. Its clear who has the problem, but I'm not sure what the problem is. Our caches were fine with the park managers. They were reviewed and approved by the park. They were reviewed and approved by the local reviewer. 1 person had a problem with these. And didn't bother to contact us personally.
  13. I agree. It would have been nice if it started "off the public forum" But honestly, the conversation should be over. We pulled most of our caches. What more is there to say?
  14. The same reviewer that published them AFTER 3 rivers approved them? Does this mean 3 rivers didn't do their job or our local reviewer didn't do his? Keep in mind, it's not you're job to distinguish right from wrong. It's the local reviewers. Wayfarer, you got youre way. you cried enough, now the park is empty. Thought THAT would make you happy. Some people just like to complain. All this critisizm from someone who has 0 hides. Are you sure "cheated " is the right word? You must not have been too traumatized by our caches, you found time to snap a picture.... http://www.geocaching.com/seek/cache_detai...d0-b7537f34da55
  15. We we're "the mad cachers" that wayfarer222 is refering to. Not one person has made an effort to bring this to our attention yet. I got here via SurferJoe (local reviewer). Keep in mind....I'm only one part of Abra Cadaver. Our thinking on this was, as wayfarer222 stated, some people like the find, some people like the hide. Honestly, whats the point of driving 20-30 min. just to get out, walk for 15-20 min, find a cache, walk back then drive somewhere else to do the same thing. Why not drive one place, park and get sevral, plus a nice walk out of the deal. Some are on hiking trails, some are on horse trails, some are on bike trails, some you can bring you're dog to, some you can't. They we're ALL approved by THREE RIVERS PARKS. They were ALL family/user friendly. Honestly, I don't see the problem here. We have had nothing but possitive feedback from 99% of the people who seek our hides. I mean, why not, a day out in the sun, hiking in the park, finding caches . If somebody else wanted to place a cache in these parks, don't you think they would have? These are 500+ acre parks. But the park regulations clearly state, "25' from center of trail". True, we did gamble with some, and they were approved and published. The distance of each cache veried as much as the cache containers themselves. We didn't measure out .3 and drop. We dropped where we thought was a good place to drop. Sometimes it was a 1/2 mile, sometimes it was 3/4. Sometimes more. We were VERY limited to our locations, as we were trying to follow the 25' rule. That really doesnt leave a lot of freedom to roam. After reading this thread, we have decided to archive almost all of out caches. We will be leaving some of the cooler ones where they are. Now, nobody feels cheated. 500+ acres, 2 caches. Happy caching. P.s....wayfarer222- next time you accuse someone of violating the rules, make sure a rule has been violated first.
