    New maps

Sure glad I saw this post...same prob here and thought virus or something also!
  2. I think I'm blind (not due to New Years Eve! LOL) Thanks, found it and all is well!
  3. on 'http://www.geocaching.com/my/default.aspx' and other pages I honestly do not see any reference to 'update my statistics now'...what page should I be on?
  4. My 'preview profile details', which gives all stats: total caches, map of states found in, etc. says 'Statistics generated on 12/21/2010' How do I update it to the present?
  5. Yeah, I love when you get 10 emails about cache finds in your area and EVERYONE is 'TFTC'...doesn't matter how difficult, etc. just a cut/paste. I just think a cache finder should put a personal note. JMO
  6. I know about the VISTA 'driver' from Magellan. I download, unzip and try to update the drivers. But I get 'windows cannot find driver'. I've tried every way I can think of and no luck. GPS connects fine with an XP machine. When connected to the VISTA laptop, I can 'run on external power', I can access my gps's sd card or internal memory, use 'easygps', mapsend to exchange caches, download tracs....etc. It's just I cannot get the data exchange to work. Therefore I cannot use it for DeLorme Topo on the road. BTW, I'm really not new to all the hoops you've got to run through to get hardware/software to work. I first used DeLorme products with my Sport model gps. BUT I'm very eager to learn.
  7. I have no clue as to what you mean by 'generalizations aren't helping the problem with your compass'. I found a website here on Groundspeak that FIXED MY COMPASS PROBLEM. The point of the post is to let others get their compass fixed!
  8. Here's the link I used : link The left side is in Russian, right in English. Thanks, I'll be trying this. My compass point everywhere except north, the temp is 216C and the baro has a lot of numbers!!! All that after the firmware update Ken Xotar, I'm sure that will get you to the page that will restore your unit, as it did mine.
  9. Well I got 6.0 Eastern and EVERYTHING works fantastic! Thanks for the input!!
  10. I'll check it out. WD9BAQ. I moved from Illinois and adviced the FCC of my addy change. Still WD9BAQ! and that's what my truck tag says!
  11. I'm glad you got your 600 working properly. But i gotta say, the rest of your post is, ah, intresting. We all know by now that emailing Magellan is the worst way to go, but you didn't want to talk to a.... live person? I've called them 5 or 6 times over the past few months and they have always been courteous, knowledgable and clearly have a policy of going "up the ladder" to try to find an answer to your problem. Your racist sniping is unnecessary and offensive. Racist sniping?? No, a FACT. If you've had NO problems than either you speak East Indian or you lucked out and found a tech w/o a SEVERE accent! It took well over a half hour just to get a replacement disk for mapsend. Oh, the lady was very polite and spoke within her limitations, but it was an unbelievable struggle to have to repeat every letter/number . When I purchase a product in the U.S. I expect to have an American English speaking person to talk to. Why should I have to learn how to interpet some foriegners accent? If that's being racist, tough.
  12. Here's the link I used : link The left side is in Russian, right in English.
  13. I had it attatched to my laptop and also saved the tracks from taxi to landing. Turned it off for about an hour or so to save memory. From Midway to Charlotte. Hit around 580 and 38000'. It was reall cool at the motel replaying the taxi and takeoff/approach, landing and taxi!
  14. Well, we seldom go on caches longer than 3 miles round trip so we travel light. Usually bring gps/fully charged, compass, camera, binoculars if justified, and cache info. We seldom bring the cellphone as most of our caching is in mountain areas with no service.
  15. I'm sure the 5.0 is the problem. Checking the specs on 6.0 I see where they state easy downloads of tracks, waypoints, etc. Checkin an ald review of 5.0 doesn't say that. Any I've got 6.0 for Eastern U.S. on the way! Thanks for the help!
  16. I can't get Topo to import the .log file as it isn't recognized. It's looking for .txt, .gpl, or .an1 . I'm using Topo v5.0, that may be the problem.
  17. You've made a point I hadn't thought of. This was my first hid cache and a lot of the cache pages I've searched seem to have a ftf. It seemed like it was a common theme to include ftf, so I was just trying to conform to those that have been doing this for a while. But point well taken. I'm leaving it on if not for the fact I'm proud I was able to do it!
  18. I can get Topo to access my 600 ok, and use it in the car with the laptop. But there seems no way to download gps tracks, etc. to it. When I run exchange I get an error message. My Sportstrack pro had no problem.
  19. Right out of the box my 600's compass would not calibrate. I would calibrate but the compass would basicly just lock up. Emailed customer support and each time I got a form letter reply telling my how to calibrate it! There is NO WAY I was going to talk to another Pakistani to fix this problem. So I just figured I use my trusty mechanical one. Anyway, I check the faq on my gps on the Groundspeak site and found a fix! Had to bring up a 'service' screen and input a menu number. This brought up a calibration screen I've NEVER seen. I just followed the screen putting the gps in a lot of weird configurations; on it's side, back, up, down, etc. Then it went to the regular calibration screen. Recalibrated and success!!!! Quite accurate and fluid!
  20. I placed my first two last Friday and published on Saturday. This morning saw 4 logs!!! I sure I'm more excited the the FTF're!
  21. Some how this post dissappeared, so I've reposted This is really cool. Thanks so much for the help! Here's a link: cache page.
  22. Sorry to butt in, but that cachestat software is fantastic! Thanks!
  23. That is so cool! Like I said it's my first cache page and had no clue. Check it out: cache page Thanks again guys!
  24. OK, NOW I UNDERSTAND!! Thanks a lot for all the help! May take me a while but at least one way or another I'll be able to give the ftf're credit! Thanks again, and I'll report back when I get it figured out!
