  1. I assume you acquired the requisite permission from the newspaper before scanning and posting the article? "Free Press" doesn't refer to the price. Some people take copyright infringement quite seriously.
  2. I'm quite certain that is not the case in the 3 or 4 instances I've noticed in my area. The final cache locations were fine; I'm sure they would have been approved if they had been listed as straight go-to caches. Probably just an oversight on someone's part- or a new cache hider's mistake. I'll send off an email to our local approver; so that people like me who don't always read the descriptions don't get too annoyed.
  3. Lately I've been noticing a whack of caches in my area that are labelled as "traditional" caches but if one reads the cache page before hunting one will see that the coordinates listed are not for the actual cache, they are for something else that the finder will have to use to find the actual cache. For example, the coordinates take you to a plaque with a 3 digit number on it, use these numbers to the right of the decimal place in the latitude. Understand? Good, I'm sure most of you have seen these type of caches before; are they not called multi-caches? Do we not have a category for them? Yes we do. Which brings me to my question. When the cache is being reviewed would it not make sense for the reviewer to point out the the cache under review is not, in fact, a traditional but is a multi? Thanks. PS, please excuse any slow responses on my part. Long story...

    Great Grey North!

It's a well known and well documented problem. Jeremy's been working on it but apparently there are big problems with a lot of the base data. (inc. the rest of the world, not just Canada).
  5. Most unfortunate. I'm quite surprised you got the "Kiss Me"; most Island cachers are a friendly and supportive bunch; quite tolerant of mistakes, newbie or otherwise. Drop by the BC geocachers association for some tips and to say hello to the locals. BCGA
  6. Can someone tell me if, and if possible how? do I get the 'long description" box bigger on the submit a new cache form? Some of us old-timers can't see well enough to read the writing. I use Mozilla most of the time, if it's any help.
  7. Which eTrex would that be? I got my eTrex Legend for about $220 from GPScentral (inc. shipping). Sold my yellow etrex for $40.00.
  8. You're missing the initial question people. Camnpete: You need to send them money before they'll give you an ID number. I'd cut and paste the links but I'm sure there will be some one along soon who isn't under the same censorship constraints as I, and they'll post the appropriate links for you.
  9. Thanks Keystone. knowing how busy y'all are I thought it best to ask if my editing a spelling mistake on a submitted cache page would cause any probs. Carry on...
  10. Yes, there's always that one spelling error. I spent about 2 days figuring out how I wanted to do the cache, I triple checked the coordinates (it's a multi so I had 2 coords to re-check), added a picture, ran the description past my non-caching wife to see if it made any sense (she's says we're all crazy BTW); then I ticked the ready for approval button and submitted it. Then I found that spelling mistake. There it was, staring at me like a huge zit on prom night. Do I fix it and hope that editing a cache whilst it's in the queue won't bump me to the back? Anyhoo, I fixed it then decided to ask if anyone knew if it would cause a problem. Thanks all.
  11. No, you would need to change your behavior in the forums. Since 90% of my posts never make it to the forums, one can argue that my "forum behavior" is quite good.
  12. I was just wondering if editing a cache page while it's in the approval queue will cause any problems? I'm not talking about changing coordinates because that would obviously cause a problem, I'm thinking more along the lines of fixing the odd spelling and grammar error.
  13. If I changed my name, would my posts be posted?
  14. There's probably only 2 or 3 people in that club. And no, I'm not one of them. On topic: Maybe someone should start and pin a thread entitled, "How Long Do I Have To Wait For Approval". Seems to be one of the more FAQs.
  15. Gee, if I typed something like that I'd get another threat via email from someone in Seattle; yet this one gets posted? What am I doing wrong? Am I being to polite?

    Black Bear Sighted

Perhaps someone should warn the bear that there might be geocachers in the area. We do far more damge to the bear and it's environment then it could possibly ever do to us. You are more likely to be hurt by a human then by a bear.

    Map It

There are no maps (yet!) for Canada or anywhere else outside the US available with the Map It function. All you'll see is grey space for now. There is a thread somewhere about this. Edit: I meant to say "useable" maps. Apparently the data is not the greatest.. There's a thread on the website forum about this issue.
  18. On the off chance that this post makes it through the censoring process, I too would like to add my congratulations to the newly elected board. It was good to see a relatively large turnout for the first GM; bodes well for the future I think.
  19. If this has been covered before, please send me in the right direction; I've searched but I'm not quite sure what I'm searching for so the results aren't very helpful. Here's the situation. There's this guy who's trying to convince me that there is software out there that permits him to hook up his little yelloe eTrex to his laptop and the eTrex plots his position on a map on his laptop every second. Is there such a thing? Hi Bob!
  20. The approvers should be at our beck and call 24/7. What's with them? I mean, what's the big idea of having a life while I have a cache awaiting approval? Just kidding of course. I've had a cache approved in less than an hour; another one took the better part of a week. Most took about 2 days. I've even had one cache approved by an out-of-area approver because cache-tech and MrG were busy. Yeah, I know, I'm not adding much to the topic; it's too darn hot to move.
  21. Try asking over at vigps.com. That's where most of the island cachers hang out.
  22. You're welcome. Please don't be afraid to ask; we're usually a helpful bunch.
  23. Maybe there should be a note on the cache page stating that one cannot see who's watching. Seems to be the #1 F A Q.
  24. I mentioned the same thing several months ago. Jeremy replied that they'll probably just get rid of it but it's not a priority.
