  1. The reviewers can look at the word 'bridge' and ask the hider for clarification. Since most -if not all- pedestrian walkways 'of the bridge' are actually part of the bridge, one would think a reviewer might have enough gumption to question the cache location. One would also hope that the hider had read the guideline part about bridges and maybe thought a bit before hiding a cache there. Granted, Montreal is not part of the USA and the rest of the world does not hate us as much; but caches near bridges are pretty much a bad thing everywhere Nice story nonetheless, I'm glad the police were somewhat cool with you. I know I found a discarded meth lab once and based on the way the police grilled me you'd think it was my lab. Reply ver 2.1

    Schools

There's nothing wrong with a schools so long as you don't hunt the cache during school hours. I imagine some of the kids in the class like the cache? Unfortunately, a lot of geocachers aren't to bright so perhaps there should be some way to ensure they don't visit the grounds while school is in session. The example you linked to suggested night caching. That would work.
  3. Maybe after 2 or so complaints (ok, hows about 1 complaint) about a soggy/ruined logbook a responsible cache owner should probably head out and replace it, If not, maybe an SBA would get his/her attention. Now, as to the subject of junk in caches; I know it costs me 65 cents for every 1000kg I take to the dump so I figure it's saving me some coin to drop my junk off in caches.
  4. It's been like that for a while. I managed to get one PQ in a few days back so I'm set for a bit. I've pretty much given up on ever being able to log a find though. No big deal really. Maybe the premium members only server will be implemented soon.

    test my avator

Testing out a new, warm and fuzzy avatar; trying to show the mods that I'm not always a big meanie
  6. It's a weekend problem. They are currently redefining 'weekend'. Stay tuned. I'm looking forward to longer weekends.
  7. I have no qualms when it comes to violating cache-owner imposed rules. The only rules I agree to abide by are the rules (aka guidelines) imposed by geocaching.com. Since most TB hotels have some variant of "TB Hotel" in the name so they should be easy to identify. I added the second paragraph in an attempt to remain on topic. I added the third paragraph to explain why I echoed something already said.

    Anyone Notice?

Hey! As one of the rudest people around (just ask any mod!) I resent those remarks! My bio is not weird.
  9. The zire 21 is perfect for caching. It's cheap so if you break it you won't cry too loudly, and it holds plenty of cache pages. I use plucker and don't have a problem. Try shopping around a bit though, 149 is on the high end. I think I got mine for about 130. I'm not sure where you'd look in Ont. for deals though.
  10. I believe this is what a lot of the local geocaching associations do. I know we recently held a well-received "novice night" event.
  11. That doesn't quite explain why I was asked to validate an already valid account? That was my initial question; I was asked to validate it and I had recieved no emails from gc.com. Then I started getting a bunch of emails with different validation codes. OK, so there was 4 of them. Anyhow, seems to work now though, thanks Jeremy
  12. I keep getting validation emails for my account. It's starting to piss me off. I've changed my email to see if that would get it to stop but so far no good. Any ideas why I keep getting them? I've been a member for a while now.
  13. I see this message at the top of "my cache page": This account has been valid for a long time and I don't have the original validation email from 2003. Any ideas? Thanks. Moderator's Note: I merged together two similar inquiries.
  14. I'd like to see a seperate fee set up for people for wish to use the off-topic area. I'd rather my 30 bucks went to geocaching related enhancements and maintenance. If people want to discuss things not related to geocaching on a geocaching site, make them pay for it. 10 bucks a year or something like that sounds fair to me.

    Cache Approval Times

You'll get used to Thorin at some point. He seems to have an opinion on everything. The mods seem to like him though. I've suggested on numerous occasions that they change the blurb about caches being approved in 24-72 hours. I'm not a big enough butt kisser to be heard though.
  16. Didn't get to sign the logbook because the cache had been archived and removed. They did take a picture of their GPSr as "proof" that they were there though. We need a different colour smiley for "Found It"'s on archived caches.

    Errors Galore

Same old, same old. Glad my 30 dollar contribution helped.

    New Cache

Maybe it's time to change that "...expect to see your cache approved within 24-48 hours." to something that won't prompt this topic every second day? I know, deaf ears and all that jazz.
  19. Whenever I check my new messages it's always something about my warning level being increased again. *sigh*. That's quite depressing so I've placed some duct tape on the upper right side of my monitor so that I can resist the temptation to read any new ones.
  20. Yeah, I'm quoting myself. Get over it. Case in point: http://www.geocaching.com/seek/cache_detai...83-71ae0ba1fd91 appeared on the newest in the province list today. Labelled as a traditional but the first sentence reads, "This is an offset cache". Seems to me that adding a checkbox for, "Is the cache type correct?" wouldn't be that difficult.
  21. Photo #2 sure looks like vehicle damage to me (ie someone hit the hedge)..
  22. What I'd like to see is a cache size icon beside the cache type icon. Eg, a film canister icon beside a traditional would indicate that the cache is a micro. For multi's, the icon would refer to the final cache and not any intermediate caches. I would mention this in the geocaching.com forum but they really don't like me and my posts (if they get past the censoring process) sometimes take days to get posted. I went on a tear a couple of weeks ago and sent contact@ a list of mis-labelled multi caches. I've stopped doing that now because it's a rather futile endeavour. There's always one or two in the new caches list and I really don't want to be the cache police.
  23. At least that's not as annoying as downloading the coordinates for a traditional only to find out after you've wasted an hour or so that it's a multi. You can use pocket queries to sort out the micros, but until the reviewers stop approving mis-labelled caches we're stuck with them. At least I think you can do a PQ to filter the micros; I get nothing but "timeout expired" when I try to access 'my cache page' to run a PQ. You figure if the timeout has expired that the game is back on?
  24. Senca would be a great choice. El Diablo Now I can't speak for the man, but I'd be willing to bet his tenure as a moderator of the BC geocachers association website forums has pretty much soured him on moderating.
  25. If you right click on the photo, then "save photo as" to your desktop, you can use your photo editor to look at it and enlarge it so you can see the text. I've had to do that with a lot of photos online! EDIT: I just tried it and it was too pixilated (sp?) to read...but GENERALLY that works! lol It reads S89 59'59.3" W015 53'38.0" http://www.phys.unsw.edu.au/~mcba/diary01.html#DSC00222
