  1. I dunno, but at one multi here in my neck of the woods, I spent four hours trying to find the final stage! One wonders if it would be a violation of the C.I.T.O. policy if "The remains of the frustrated cacher" were found at a cache site! Nuff Said,
  2. Seems to me, that one is just making more work for themselves with all the mutliple identities.
  3. ICE ON 285 is back on the road......check the latest log entry for full details! Strip Mining PREVENTS Forest Fires!
  4. Yep Jeff, hit the nail on the head with that post! Thing is, most of the complaints about officer misconduct we get around here, is generally of the nature of "I called the po-lice and..... a) they didn't show up they didn't do nothing.... Funny how the public's perception is easily swayed by televison; I've actually had a burglary victim tell me, that if Kojak was on the case, he'd have that burglar locked up ten minutes ago...... If the public REALLY wanted to know how their police department works, they could easily attend a "citizens academy"....but, their poor, overused lazy-boys would lose their custom buttock imprint that took years to make! Just my 2-cents, from this neck o' the woods! Strip Mining PREVENTS Forest Fires!
  5. Here's an idea. How about an online chat area where those of us online can chat with other users? I've seen this done on other websites. I do use MSN Messenger (Vexorg_Atlanta), but, too many "pornobots" and pop-up adds spoil the fun of chatting with other people.... How about it? Strip Mining PREVENTS Forest Fires!

  7. quote:Originally posted by sundance5567:Hi group, I was justup in Racine,Wi, for a Memorial service for my uncle David Munroe, and went to see a plane that he donated to the EAA museum at the Racine Airport. They have the top 8 or 10 feet of one of these beacons in side as a display...pretty cool to touch/feel one!!!!! David Here is a photo of that beacon....enjoy! EAA Chapter 838 Beacon ....now, if I could just find one here in Georgia......... Strip Mining PREVENTS Forest Fires! [This message was edited by Vexorg_EPPD on September 08, 2003 at 06:50 PM.]
  8. Well, maybe Deb Brown will post here and enlighten us??? Strip Mining PREVENTS Forest Fires!
  9. Well Jeff, looking at some of the NGS datasheets from other beacon sites, it appears that the NGS does not consider the beacon destroyed IF they can find the footings or base of the orginal tower...... The NGS datasheets can tell you a lot, not exactly interesting reading, though....but, it will tell you on some of them IF the beacon site was totally obliterated from the land. I myself am at least hoping I can find one here in Georgia, that at least has the concrete arrow.... Strip Mining PREVENTS Forest Fires!
  10. Okay, went a huntin for DG3171...its not there anymore, the park historian told me, that it was torn down sometime in the late 1970's. Got pictures and posted them. At least the view was nice that day! DG3171 Strip Mining PREVENTS Forest Fires!
  11. For me, its not so much as being the first.....its actually finding that darn thing! Strip Mining PREVENTS Forest Fires!
  12. Dear ROGer..... Thanks again for your guidance in all matters pertaining to Benchmarking......I defer to your good wisdom as always Now, where ARE those pads/footing??? Strip Mining PREVENTS Forest Fires!
  13. Questions for Rodger..... 1)While checking the NGS datasheets, I've read that even the NGS has managed to update some sites, listing them as DESTROYED. Is it worth STILL going to try to locate these sites? (remembering the two I went to, now houses) 2) Can we get the GEOCACHING database updated, some of the sites in the NGS database ARE not in the GEOCACHING Benchmark database??? Next hunt for me, the one near Villa Rica Georgia...the airstrip is STILL visible from the satelite photos, I believe that the foundation for the beacon may be in the grove of trees nearby; why would the farmer nearby avoid that area??? Thank you for your guidance, as always, Strip Mining PREVENTS Forest Fires!
  14. Kudos for the Kouple! With the availability of digital cameras now (have seen "simple" ones at the local Wal-Mart for as low as $49.00!), I too, do not see why people dont post a pic of their benchmark finds.....saves a lot of arguments over if someone was actually at that site....... Out of curiousity... how long have you been on the job? Jeff http://www.StarsFellOnAlabama.com http://www.NotAChance.com If you hide it, they will come.... Just a tongue in cheek response on a famous quote from Al Capone (i.e. you'll get further with a gun and a kind word, than just a kind word alone).....would never misuse the badge for my own hobbies and interests! 17. quote:Originally posted by Kewaneh & Shark:I hate to pick nits here but in the case of DG2698, it is not a find. That mark is, as you stated, a horizontal control mark, not because it was on a building, but by virtue of the fact that horizontal control was the intended purpose of the mark. The building was not the mark - the brass disk on the roof was - and if the mark (and its accessories) are removed, the building does not 'become' the mark. In many cases, buildings, towers, tanks, spires, stacks, etc. have been used as horizontal and/or triangulation control, but the point sighted by the surveyor from another distant triangulation station was specified explicitly. In this case, the brass disk on the roof was intended to be occupied by a surveying instrument to either measure to other adjacent stations, or be measured to from those other adjacent stations. If the brass disk is now missing, the building cannot be used in its place unless a specific point on that building is identified for that purpose. Keep on Caching! (and Benchmarking!) - Kewaneh Okay, I'll change it to destroyed. Even though I can get access, I spoke with the building maintenance man; he said, its no longer there, and he dont know what they did with the disk! Also, surveyors here in East Point have told me, that they still use the southeast corner of the NELMS HOUSE as a horizontal control point. By the way, as far as invalid benchmarks go, I do bring along a digital camera and take a snaphot of it, and post it with my log......Nuff Said...... Strip Mining PREVENTS Forest Fires! 18. Hey, its not an INVALID find......the building is there, thus making this a HORIZONTAL CONTROL, like for example, a water tower. Questions about these recent finds, contact me, also, I have been taking and posting pictures of these finds. Strip Mining PREVENTS Forest Fires!
